Neulasta side effects

I am just wondering what your experience has been with the Neulasta injections if you are getting them. I've had just 2 so far.

Both times, I had some pain in the abdominal area for a couple of days; nothing that painful, just uncomfortable. It felt more like muscle pain than pain from an organ.

And with this last one, I felt kind of achy all over for two days afterwards.

I had to get Neupogen injections with my chemo I had 7 years ago, and I remember I had terrible bone pain with those.

I only had side effects on my first injection of Neulasta. 3 or 4 days after the shot I got some serious bone pain in my hips and thighs- enough to make walking painful and difficult. The pain was over with in about 7 days.

I don't remember if Neupogen caused any side effects on me.

I had Neulasta injections after each of 5 TCH infusions -- really didn't have any SEs I was aware of. Maybe a little achy, but nothing that slowed me down.

Hi,

I read on these boards about taking Claritin and Aleve 30 minutes prior to the Neulasta injection. I did so and had few se's. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, I can't take either one of those; Aleve irritates my stomach, and Claritin makes me lightheaded and sleepy.

I had my first Taxotere treatment last Wednesday and I feel like I have the flu (without the fever) Does this get any better??

I had 8 months of taxotere along with 2 other medications so I was not sure where my Side effects were coming from. Flu like symtoms for 2 or 3 days are normal with chemo. My worst side effect was extreme exhaustion even after the Nuelasta injection. It usually took me almost 2 weeks to recover. I had 1 good week a month before my next treatment. You should be able to gauge your good days. Before chemo--stock up on food. Ask your onc what you should take for pain. Generally, advil or extra strength tylenol are good.

Hello Everyone,

I took a Non-drowsy Claritin 3yrs. ago. I think I recall there is also a tablet out there that melts right away on your tongue so you don't have to take with water. I've used both. I only took it a day after my shot. My legs hurt after my Neulasta shot. The Claritin was something new they found worked for some of the people at my Cancer Ctr. in NC, so they had a few of us try this. Don't forget to be sure to check with your Onc before taking anything.

Actually, I finally tried acupuncture on my ankles last year. That worked wonders for me.

I finished my first TC 3 weeks ago, and go in for my second tomorrow. For me, the Neulasta side effects were flu-like symptoms, muscle and skin pain through day 3, and then on day four it went into my bones, finally settling into my lower back and causing fairly severe pain. Severe enough that I was curled into a ball on the floor crying. For TC #2, my onc nurse is having me take Claritin-D starting on the day of chemo (I realize you can't take this!), then Vicodin as soon as the skin/muscle pain starts. If that doesn't help (Vicodin in low doses didn't do it for me last time; I'm hoping the higher dose helps!), I'll go to the ER and get narcotics.

I can't take Claritin, but I do have Vicoden that I take for my hip and sciatica pain. So far, I haven't had the bad bone pain yet like I had with my Neupogen 7 years ago.

Jenny, I'm sorry you had so much pain; there are times when my sciatica pain makes me feel like that. They haven't been able to find the exact cause of my sciatica yet, but it's in the same hip that I have bone mets in and have had radiation on twice.

Just started the AC portion of my AC+T regimine 4 days ago. The chemo portion went very well, but the shot the day after to increase white blood count has knocked me through a loop! I'm scheduled to go back to work tomorrow, but the body aches are brutal!

Take some advil and then at night add valium. You need sleep and this will help you. It worked wonders for me.

Thanks, Claire! I've been taking 12-hour Aleve, but it hasn't helped much. Wish I did have a valium ~ I'll call the doctor tomorrow. Smile

I had two Neulasta shots (didn't have one with the first treatment) and one more to go with my last treatment. The pain was awful. Imagine a combination of birth pain (with no meds) and a broken tailbone. As I had the Neulasta Friday, I suffered over the week-end and Monday my onc. prescribed some Percocet. I have enough to get me through the next one. The SE's last for 7 days for sure, wit the second one I had some pains again 10 days after the shot, for one day. I guess it depends from person to person.

I had mild bone pain with my first shot, and no pain at all after the others. Accupuncture may have helped me.

Mitymuffin - Don't know how pretty you are WITH hair but you sure are a gorgeous "baldy", no need to cover that up!

I had the Neulasta shot after each T/C infusion.....each time I landed in bed for several days - lots of bone pain. The great thing, tho, is that my counts were always good so my tx's were never delayed. Neulasta is one of those good/bad things we deal with in this battle.

I just had my second Neulasta shot. Both times I have been achey and tired and sore. Both times I also get a low fever (100.4) called the Onc the first time and saw it is a known side effect. Kind of tiring but at least it went away..
