Hi everyone. Back to the docs today and got another shot in the butt. Same again tomorrow and I have oral antibiotics. So although the results are not in from the fluid withdrawn from my boob, infection sounds GOOD as it is responding well to tx. Only you ladies can understand what it feels like to have something wrong with your bc boob. So I'm feeling better physically and my mind is almost relaxing.

Lilah - there doesn't seem to be any reason for the infection!!

Donna - I'll be looking for your post tomorrow.

Jenn - hope your back is doing well.

Weety - good to hear from you - it's been a while.

Patty - what are you up to??

    Congrats Weety on the cancerversary!!!!!

Gill, I'm sooo glad your boob is getting better with antibiotics!!!

Jenn- I too love watermelon, believe it or not my addiction is not sweets, but savory foods like mac and cheese, mexican, spaghetti! ahh Mexican!!

OK, day 2 report: I did better with food, but felt crappy all day (I gues my body is detoxing) breakfast was some canoloupe a banana and baby carrotts, I know breakfast need to get better, lunch was tuna salad with MW less fat than mayo on a whole weat pita small and a fat free yogurt...this pita was very good, I put some jalopenos on it for some extra kick! snacks were one Quaker chewy bar and some blueberries...dinner was a garden salad with 2% cottage chees on top instead of dressing and a baked chicken breast with yellow squash...total calories 1217, I guess I need to eat more or different at breakfast.....scale says: 249.4 thats 5lbs so far.

side note, someones coming to look at my house today, this will be only the 3rd person in 16 weeks so everyone keep your fingers crossed for me!  {{{HUGS}}} Donna

Donna - that is great. I am so happy for you. We will keep listening to you, and cheering you along. Fingers (and toes) crossed.

Nothing new boob-wise this morning which is good.

Donna you are inspiring me!!!  Eggs for breakfast -- eggs!  Protein is the best way to start the day -- takes away hunger and kick starts your butt :)

Gilly -- glad you are responding well to the antibiotics.  I am sending prayers your way for the results of the fluid test to be nothing (sure sounds like the antibiotics are IT).

Gill - so glad to hear you're responding to anitbiotics.  Yes, I think only someone who has been through what we've been through can understand the panic one feels.

A coworker from another dept called me today to tell me she's having tests done - she has a dense spot/area on her mammogram and ultrasounds and.....her breast itches terribly.  She is so worried and the waiting is so hard.

Donna -  I am so glad to hear you lost 5lbs, that's 5 packs of butter, 1/2 sack of potatoes....whoo hooo.  I'm agreeing with Lilah again - protein for breakfast - eggs would help keep away the hungry monster.  Or......some cheese if you don't have time for eggs, cut some cheese up the night before and grab it on the way out of the door.

Weety - Congrats on your one year!!!! Doesn't it feel so good to be at this mark?

Lilah - any movies lately?  I'm going to see Solitary Man with a friend in a few minutes.

Oh I thought Solitary Man was depressing (sorry) - hope you like it better than I did Jenn!  We saw THE LAST AIRBENDER (great visually) and KNIGHT AND DAY (cute fun)... but have been travelling last weekend and this for family events so this is cutting deeply into my movie time!

Airbender is not my kind of movie I don't think. But I'll try and drag DH to Knight and Day. We will probably see Salt when it gets here.

Had my third shot in the butt today. I have an appointment with my PCP tomorrow am when lab results are expected. Although everything is pointing to an infection, it is a little unsettling to be waiting for lab results when besides infection, they are going to be looking for cancer cells.

Salt is definitely on my list.  Airbender was my BF's pick :)

I hope there are no cancer cells!  NO!

It is official - I have a staph infection. How odd to be thrilled to have an infection!! Yet another shot in the butt and I am also taking septra for 2 weeks as it is a "significant" infection. (I thought it was beginning to look pretty good. It's all relative I suppose.)

Hope you are having a great day! Has anyone seen Patty on another thread?

Well, Gilly, that would be an analysis based on where you were before you started the antibiotics... but glad to hear it's JUST that :)

Sorry for anyone that may like it, but Lilah you are right, right, right.  Solitary Man was extremely depressing and really if you think about it just plain stupidity.  Thank goodness the company was good.  We actually laughed with other patrons at the end of the movie over how bad it was.  I liked Knight and Day.  Also on our list is Growups, Despicable Me, Salt and Eat, Pray Love.  I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love and really am enjoying the book.

Gill - Glad it's not little cancer cells invading your territory again, but sorry to hear that it's a staph infection.  Wow.......they are really serious.  I know you're taking care of yourself, so I won't give you that lecture.

I got my first hair cut in over a year.  It was really more of a shape up and show me how to handle the curls.  I really don't/didn't know how to handle the curls.  When I say curly, it's really curly and very, very thick. I asked the hairdresser if it was as thick as I thought and was told and she said yes - it really is very thick.  I went from no hair, to thick curls.  I like what she did, which doesn't look too much different - she really just evened it out and thinned it out some.  She did tell me that patience is the trick.  If I wanted to let it grow and not go with the really short cut - I had to be patient and let it grow.  Ah........patience...........that is something I don't have a lot of.

Donna - how did you do today?

Weety - how many more weeks until you have to start teaching again?

Jenn -- sorry but I did warn you (although possibly a little too late) -- my BF and I just looked at each other at the end of that movie and were like: What???  A waste of a good cast.  Dumb, yes.  And depressing.  I LOVED Eat, Pray Love (the book) and can't wait to see the movie.

And woo hoo on the hair cut!  I wanna see a picture :)

woops...I forgot to post yesterday! Todays weight is 248.2, still eating the same, I will add those eggs this weekend. I have no idea what my DH and I will do this weekend since our favorite thing to do is eat out, and I'm not that good yet! So guess where we are dining out tonight, "Subway"; I never thought I would be excited to eat at Subway. I guess we will be padding that savings account with all the money we are saving not dining out! Cruise $$$! I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend! {{{HUGS}}} Donna

Donna - give yourself a pat on the back. You have made a great start!

Yeah for a hair cut Jenn. Mine was also just a tidy up but it certainly improved things. Then there was that color...

Anyone going to see Inception? I'm sure DH will want to. I actually managed a walk this morning. A bit shorter than than usual, but the first this week. I'm meeting with a few bc ladies this evening to discuss the possibility of a support group. I'm not sure if there is a need for one, or what form it would take but we can talk about it and see.

I definitely WANT to see Inception... not sure I can this weekend though (if it is open this weekend)... as we are away visiting family and events are already scheduled.

It's good to see you all doing so well.  I haven't been here for a while.  I'm just curious about how many of you have gone commando and ditched the wigs?  I'm still wearing mine to work, even though I have about 3 inches of wavy hair.  It's very wild looking and I hate the color!  It's gone from very light brown (which I used to get weaved with blonde highlights), to dark brown with some gray. I'm about ready to go back to my hair stylist for my first haircut and dye job.  I've never had hair this dark and this wavy, so I'm hoping a good haircut and coloring will help me be brave enough to ditch the wig soon.

Hi there MCK. Many of us are now going commando. I have since March, around 5 months PFC. I did not have much hair when I did it but it felt great. Even now I don't have as much hair as you - the longest bits about 2 inches when stretched out. So it's more about your confort level. I also went wild with color which is really fun. I have never had curly hair before but I don't care. It's hair. On my facebook page I have a hair photo album ranging from pre-chemo to now if you are interested. (Gillian Sharma)

Come back often - we're having fun!

I haven't worn my wig since some time in May... SO nice not to have it on!  When I stopped wearing the wig my hair was about an inch long, I'd say.  Now getting closer to two (one and a half?)  It's still SHORT and definitely gets a reaction from people who don't know about the chemo... but it looks cute and I rather like it :)  (See pic)  Mine is the same color it was before chemo... mostly straight (with a little body or wave to it).  Go for it Maine!  It's so nice really to be free of the wig especially in this summer heat.  I loved my wig, mind you, but it was time.

Gill - Ouch!   I'm glad the antibiotics are working, but I can appreciate the scare.   A few weeks ago in my check up with the surgeon after the port removal, she found a lump under my lumpectomy scar.   She sent me for ultrasound, and it was deemed a "junky" cyst.  Nothing to worry about, but now I have to have another ultrasound in 6-months to check on what's going on.   Guess this is our life for now...right ladies?

Donna - I heard something interesting about the artificial sweetners which suggests you might be right to avoid Splenda.   The report said that the articificial sweetners kind of fake your body out.  Your tongue tells your brain "Oh goody, sugar on the way", but when none shows up it trigger a sugar craving.    I'm with you on the water...it's like having to take medicine for me!

Weety - Hope your infection clears up soon.  They are so uncomfortable!

MKC - glad to hear from you and glad you're doing well.  I never wore wigs, but did quit wearing scarves in January.  It was pretty short, not much of anything, but I just hated head coverings.  I say go for it.  I just went to the hairdresser for the first time in over a year so that she could show me how to work the curls.  Go commando - it's really a freeing experience.

Lilah - you did warn me, but it was too late..... We did get a good laugh out of it - crazy as that sounds.  My oldest daughter went to see Inception.  She said she enjoyed it, but didn't think I would like it.  I tend to like movies that don't require too many brain cells.  So, I'm guessing it may be good.

Donna - Way to go.........week one is over.  Week two will be much better.  Also, if you like Mexican food, make it at home, but use turkey meat instead of ground meat and I know it's hard, but leave off the cheese and sour cream and just use guacamole.   I know "they" say to use the all white turkey meat, but I find it has less flavor, I use the 98%, which has texture more like ground meat and more flavor.  You could also make spaghetti using turkey meat with whole wheat pasta and a salad.  Okay......I'll stop.  You did great this week!!!

Gill - how's are you feeling?

This weekend was a slow one, we ran errands and lounged most of the weekend.  Maybe I'll do something next weekend.  I did start car shopping, which I have to admit I hate to do.  I haven't had a car note in years and years, but my youngest will be getting my old car (just like we did for my oldest daughter) and I will need something to drive when she heads out to college.  I am the person who drives a car until the wheels fall off, so I need to make sure I really like it.  I'm looking in the mid range, not too expensive - something like an Accord/CRV/Camry/Tuson/Altima.  Decisions, decisions, decisions. Worst part - I liked each one that I test drove for different reasons.

That is so funny Gill, I too had a 2008 CRV I bought about 6 months before diagnosis...it was my cancer car too, took me to all my treatments.

Jenn, try out the CRV, I loved mine!!!

By the way I just traded it in on my PFC (mid-life) crisis car, a 2010 Camero SS...it helps me feel a little bit more sexy, haha!!!!

I will weigh in a little later today, I know I didn't weigh in this weekend...it was because I didn't loose ant weight!   {{{HUGS}}} Donna

I want a new car too... but can't justify it as my Honda Civic is still going strong with 31 MPG (average of highway and city driving) and only 85K miles :)
