Bwaaahahahaha I love this thread!  Hey, what's wrong with Muskrat Love, anyway, LOL?  It brings back memories of that preteen perfume Baby Love Soft or something(?), and shopping for cheap eyeliner in Woolworths!  Heehee

Here's the one irritating the s**t out of me right now... Close To You  by Karen Carpenter - BLECH.

How about "Loving You (is easy 'cause you're beautiful)"  Minnie Ripperton.  Wow.

You know what else?  That song about someone leaving a cake out in the rain......ewwww.

Hahahaha Love's Baby Soft!  And that stupid tween deodorant calles Tickle!  And gee your hair smells terrific!  I loved woolworths!

LMAO - "...Who wears short shorts??  We wear short shorts!"  I'm not even sure whether that was a song or just a TV commercial, but ... yeah.

What a great thread! So glad I stopped by.  Hadn't thought about Muskrat Love in YEARS, but yeah - I hate it too.

My personal MOST HATED song is Wonderful Tonight.  To me, it is all about a woman who is totally dependent on the man for approval. It makes my skin crawl. My whole family knows how much I hate it. It's become a family joke at this point.

I sure did love shopping for cheap makeup and Loves Baby Soft at Woolworth's. And what about that Lemon scented one? Was that Love's Lemon or another brand? That was really popular when I was in jr high.

Is anyone old enough to remember "Dippity Do" that hair product?  My mother used to slather that stuff on us trying to tame our wild and crazy hair!  Thank god for straightening irons now.  What a fun "trip down memory lane" thread!

You are right Amy!  It was Love's Fresh Lemon!  I "Loved" it!  And that silly razor that was pink and round!  You just dialed up a new cartridge when one got dull.  It seems that I would have bought just about anything that was pink and made of plastic!

    but I digress...

I really hated that Abba song "Fernando"!  Gag me!

I agree with most the songs you all mentioned. My least favorite song of all time is Baby, Baby, by Amy Grant.  That song makes me wanna puke.

I completely forgot about Baby Soft.....it's nice to think about youth.

sunnycoconuts- I hate Don't wanna miss a thing and that Michael Buble song too.

Spunky- That's funny you brought up Live Like You Were Dying....that absolutely cracked me up.  My 14 year old son and I sang that the day I was diagnosed....(jokingly of course)  We have a sick sense of humor I guess.

    Kate!

I just asked a friend of mine if she remembered Dippity Do!  (She did not!)  Anyway, with my crazy post chemo poodle curls that's the product I thought of that could surely tame this mess. Ha! Smile  Janice

PS_The song that has always made my skin crawl is "She's a Brick House."  EEWWW!

And oh what about "Kokomo" by The Beach Boys. Yes, yes, TBB are awesome and I love their music, for the most part but this song is right up there with major stinko!!

Rupert Holmes...Do you like Pinacolada's...and getting caught in the rain...!!! Shut the FRIG up! He reads a personal add and responds, only to find out it's "his own" love that put the ad in...really? Two people cheating on each other is the makings of a chart topper? What kind of trip were they on back then???

You guys are killing me bringing back the horrible like Having my Baby, Muskrat Love,  seasons in the Sun and Killing me Softly were torture.  The Only Woman Bleed was horribly embarassing as well for a kid. Ring my Bell and You light up my Life , slow death.

What I can contribute to this list is MacArthur Park, that for me was a slow and painful.

Wasn't "we wear short shorts" a line in Purple People Eater? It's from the 50's & I was a little kid when it came out. OK, so I liked it then. I said I was a little kid.

Hands down number one worst song for me is Seasons in the Sun.  Depressing lyrics and depressing, bad voice.

Speaking of Dippity-Doo, does anyone remember "PSSST!"?  You were suppose to spray it on and it washed your hair.  It was right up there with Manihose (sp?).  Even Joe Namath couldn't sell those!

How about, " They're coming to take me away, Ha Ha!"

I wouldn't boast about something like that, let alone write/sing a song about it.

    Sheila.

This is hilarious!  carcharm - I know the song you're talking about but can't think of it either and it's driving me crazy!

I hate Bob Dylan's Lay Lady, Lay.  I don't know why but the line "Lay across my big brass bed" just makes me cringe.  I just picture some fat, nasty, hairy guy who thinks he's hot stuff trying to come on to me. If some guy said that to me I'd say "Mother F*****, I'm gonna shove this big brass bedpost where the sun don't shine!"  Such a shame cause I really like the melody, just not the words.

LMAO.....who wears short, shorts was a Nair commercial at one time - I think in the 70's.

Well, this is such an intellectual, serious thread that when a disagreement of sources came up, I did research.

Went to the library of the University of Google and checked the lyrics of the Purple People eater song. And, sure enough, the Purple People Eater wears short shorts.

Further to the discussion, this does not mean that Nair did not use the same lyrics for a commercial later on. The Purple People Eater song came out in 1958 so it could have been used for a commercial in the 70's.  However, after all the hours I spent in the stacks lugging those heavy books around I will defer that research.

It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

    Leah
