My scars are healing. Itrs been 3 weeks today since the thyroid operation. I've lost some weight; 5 pounds. I'm starting to get some energy but tire out quickly too.I still hate my scars. I just have to patient and wait for them to fade.
I don't have any more tanning on my breast. Its all lightened up. The only thing is that the pores on that breast are huge. Hopefully that will go away in time.
Its nice not having to run to the hospital every day or every week. Now its time to let the body and mind heal.
-
I had my Rads onc follow up today! It seemed so far away when I made the appointment. The fellow thought she felt something fibrocystic, but the Onc gave the all clear. Two breast exams in one day!
Now if I could just get my freakin shoulder better.
Bow wow all my rad dogs!

Happy Mothers' Day to all my radiant friends. Celebrate the Day and Enjoy!
Best, sophie

Happy Mother's Day to you too. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Just checking in to say hello to everyone.
I am still doing great. Have no issues with any of my cancer stuff.
I do have something wrong with my left arm, it has been hurting for several months and I finally went to my family doctor last week and will have a nerve conduction test in a couple of weeks to see what could be wrong with it. He thinks I may have a pinched nerve in my neck. OMG it is just one more thing to worry about. At least I never worried that it was cancer. Anyway it hurts and that is what I know.
I am getting on with life as I think we all are. I had my granddaughter this weekend and I took her across state lines into Oklahoma to see my sister. She was really good, you know you never know what to expect from a 1 year old. She is an angel, couldn't have asked for her to be better.

Hello, it's been less than six months since diagnosis and I too am getting on with life. So much has happened during these past months I sometimes think it was all just a bad dream. Then I reach for the nightly tamoxiphen, and I remember....
BTW...worse are the night sweats and the fatigue. I took my first Tamox in the morning and nearly fell asleep in my office by 2pm! Since then I'm taking it at night so I sleep through the symptoms...except the night sweats...ugh.
Juannelle, sorry about your left arm. I went through some issues a few years ago and it turned out to be a torn rotator cuff....surgery and PT fixed it so well it's better than the "good" arm. I hope you find the solution asap so you can continue to enjoy that little granddaughter of yours.
My daughter had her baby on March 24, and I spend so much of my "free" time with them I've had a grand time. He's pure joy and my daughter and son-in-law never turn down an offer of mine to babysit....in the early weeks just so they could get some sleep, and now to give them the chance for mom and dad date nights. Works for me!
I'm taking myself on a 4-night vacation to Sedona in June, and when I return I'll have my first follow-up mammo since diagnosis. The journey continues...
Best to anyone still checking in, sophie

Gatecrasher here from the april group just finishing. Hi
Can any of you gals higher up the ladder tell me what happens after the red and itchy stage gets better, as i'm told it will eventually. Does it turn to tan, stay red or what? I'm so lucky that i didn't peel like i do after sunburn, even a mild dose and wondering what comes next.
-
Mine tanned and faded. I did have second degree burns that healed slowly. It took me a while to get used to not going for radiation every day.
-
sophie305, my grandbaby's name is Sophia and we generally call her Sophie. Glad you are getting to go spend some time with them. Sophia's parents never turn down my invitation to keep her. I didn't get to keep her as much as I wanted since I was diagnosed shortly after she was born, but her parents were really good about bringing her to see me. My grandson is 6 and just about to finish kindergarten. He is 6 gong on 30, thinks things through and is really at a fun age. I keep him on Fridays through the summer and ready for that to begin. Good luck on your mammo and all. I had mine in February, since that was the 6 month mark from the one in July and it had been a year since my good boob had been mammoed. All was well. Just tell them to be gentle wth you and all well go well.
hymil, I didn't blister or burn, but I did turn red and tan. The red is gone, but the tan is still there. I am 2 months post radiation and doing well. You just have to give yourself time to heal, like everything else that has to do with bc.
Veggy, sorry to hear that you had second degree burns. Man I don't know what I would have done if that had happened to me. I think I got a break, because, I had one holiday and the machine broke 2 days in a row my last week.
Hope all is going well for everyone else.

As soon as the burns healed I went in for thyroid surgery. That makes 2 surgeries in less than 6 months. Now its time to let things heal... so if I need to nap - I nap.
I love the name Sophia. She must be a cutie pie. Enjoy her! They grow too quickly.
-
One-L. Veggy, thankyou. It does seem to be improving now every day. I took a risk and tried swimming and ooh it felt so good. No ill effects yet. Well yes a bit more tired than usual but no skin issues.
Veggy gosh you have had a rough ride. definitely time to let sleep do it's healing work.
-
Everyone must be getting on with life these days and doing well.
I am doing great and want to forget that I ever had to experience all this. But I couldn't have asked for a better group of women to share the experience.

I had my first mammo. Everything is good. The BS doesn't want another mammo for a year. I'm so happy!
-
Good for you veggy. I had my first mammo in Februay and they did both breasts. I was surprised, but they were very gentle with me. I will go again in August for the 6 month mammo on the bad breast. Hope everything else is going great for you.

so this is odd....I have very think hair, theoretically I lost a little bit during radiation, and then it all started growing back in....leaving me with an odd looking hairdo. (I admit I am insanely high maintinance about my hair!). I had to go shorter to even it all out!
-
that is odd. I don't think that I lost any hair during radiation. However, my hair is still growning faster on the sides and back than the crown. I am very happy with my hair growth, it is just so different than I thought it would be.
-
Hi all, I am just checking in. Wondering whether I should talk to the surgeon or oncologist about mammos.
-
I went to see the surgeon last week and he really drilled me on who would order my mammo. He would have, but I don't need to have it until August. I go to my GYN and my Med Onc in July, so I will probably let my Med Onc order it. I know I will be seeing her every 6 months for several years. I had to promise him I wouldn't forget to get one.
-
I didn't notice the hair untill I got this odd crop of short hair growing in along with my long hair~
-
Veggy and One-L, thanks for the reassuring words on your mammo! My surgeon scheduled mine for the same day as my first-year surgical checkup (October) at the same time setup my initial rad-onc and med-onc appointments. I am expecting a very thorough mammo because of the surgery. Last year I had spot-compression on the healthy breast, which is not my idea of a good time. I am thinking of asking for a anti-anxiety pill!
-
DaylilyFan, good luck with the mammo. I am going in August for my second once dx. I had my first on in February since the dx and it wasn't bad at all. Just tell them to be gentle. They didn't tighten the thing so tight.
I went Thursday to both ocologist and received good reports from both. I don't have to go back for a year to the Rad Onc and I am on a 3 month with the Med Onc. Life is good.
Hope everyone has a great July 4th.

Hello everyone!
It's been a while since I've visited here. For awhile, I thought the radiation had helped with the pain, but now I am having pain that feels like it's my spine hurting; it doesn't feel like a backache does, it feels like the pain is just along my spine. It hurts if I press on it with my hand, and sometimes if I lay on my back, even in bed.
I wonder if it's normal to still have the pain when I finished rads in February, or if there is something growing back again there. My last bone scan since finishing rads showed two new bone mets in the upper part of my spine that was not radiatied. I've been on CMF chemo since April, and I think next month my oncologist is going to order scans again.
-
I mentioned it to the nurse today when I was getting my Zometa; she was concerned and consulted with my doctor. He wants me to get a bone scan done, ASAP, hopefully before my appointment with him next Tuesday.
By this time, the scheduling dept. at the hospital was closed for the day, so they will get it set up for me tomorrow and call me the day and time. -
Mammo scheduled for 9/14....onc said to wait 6 months past radiation. Makes sense boob is still prone to swell.
Surgeon followup is in a few weeks. Between frozen shoulder and mysterious puffing I will have a lot to grouse about.
Happy summer to all. Trying to keep big red in the shade.
-
Cookiegal, I've also been dealing with frozen shoulder for several months. Massage therapy cleared it up once, but I had a non-BC hospitalization in April and lost a lot of muscle tone. I think I aggravated it even though I was trying to increase my exercise routine gradually. The PCP doesn't have any magic tricks, either, except massage and very careful strength training. Good luck to you!
Has anybody had any trouble with scar tissue after BC surgery?
-
Had first bilateral mammo yesterday. Normal.
-
unklezwifeonty - Hope you are celebrating!!
-
It's good to see everyone checking in and sharing their good news! I have my 1 yr mammo coming up, too. It's hard to believe it's been a year since this CRAP started.
-
I just passed by cancerversary this last week. It was just another day, but I did remember it. I am having my 6 month mammo next month and I am sure that all well be fine, at least I am crossing my fingers.
mom2acat, what did you find out? Hope all is well.
