Ki-67 high? shout out if yours is high too!
So I'm just getting the hang of all of this... daughter of a survivor... BRCA1 (all of us in the family are)... double mastectomy scheduled 7/14. I am TN... and ki-67 is at 90%?? Isn't that REALLY high? wth... is my 1.3 cm tumor going to be the size of a bowling ball in 12 days?
Any of you have such a high marker??

YUP - mine's 100%, and there are several of us around with high numbers. I think it's more common in TN, and part (all?) of the reason our tumors often appear out of the blue and grow really fast. My tumor grew noticeably larger during the 6 weeks between diagnosis and surgery, and ended up being 5 cm.
The ki-67 number essentially means the percentage of tumor cells that are actively dividing at the time of the test. Triple negative BC is especially sensitive to chemo, since TN is fast growing, and chemo acts on fast-growing cells.
I try to look at my ki-67 as a confirmation of TN, more than a prognostic indicator in and of itself.
Best of luck with your surgery! I hate that you're here with TN and BRCA+, but the fact that your mom is doing well is awesome. I'd say she passed on some pretty strong warrior genes to you as well!
Hang in there and let us know how you're doing!

Im not TN but mine was 70%

I'm TN and mine is 61%.

I was 90% too. In the three weeks before lumpectomy, I went from 1cm to 1.4. In a week or two, you will see a millimeter or two of growth, but try not to panic! If you tested positive for BRCA, then there is a good chance you have a lot of lymphocytes around the tumor and it is happy just staying local exactly where it is! The doctors guesstimated that my tumor was between 6 and 12 months old at the most. I am tn as well. I had a "BRCA-ness" to my tumor in that it had "medullary features" (lots of lymphocytes and synctial growth pattern), but I tested negative even with the second reflex BART test. I did not do chemo or rads because of secondary health issues, but at 16 months post op there is, so far, no sign of recurrence. I know I am not out of the woods by a long shot, but I wanted you to know that a high ki67 is not necessarily a sign of doom!

Triple + for me and mine is 59%

TN and 97%....2 1/2 years out!
Good luck to you,
Kathy

I'm Triple + too, mine is 62%. Just finished TCH chemo, 7 weeks of rads starting 8/2.

TN and mine was 74%.

Thanks girls! Feeling MUCH better... this board is a god-send. I would be so panicked without it.
My doc circiled back with onc doc... confirmed port placement during mastectomy... post op follow up with surgeon 8/2 and appt with onc 8/6 - to design my "cocktail" and plan. I'm guessing I'll be getting the usual TN dose of A/C followed by Taxol. Seems to be the drug of choice for the TN cancers. My mom is TN and she had the same.
Just have to focus now on the "stuff to do before surgery" list.
6 days and a wake-up!! I'm ready to kick some cancer a$$!!
-
TN and 90% too.
Good luck with your surgery!

All the best with the surgery, Kelly. Will be thinking of you and wishing an uneventful and fast recovery! We will all be with you - you won't be in there alone!
Hugs,
Linda
