My Favorite Childhood Memory is.....
Comments
-
Sitting on the porch and watching thunderstorms roll by with my father
Laying on my father's chest and watching Jaques Cousteau on TV (gave me my love of nature)
-
I remember the thunder storms and my grandmother told
me it was the angels bowling, and when they got a strike
the lightening would come.
-
When we were really little, Dad told us thunder was a potato wagon in heaven getting knocked over. When we were older, he'd tell us not to be afraid of thunder, because if we heard it, the lightning had already missed us.
Mom and Dad taught us how to swim and tread water as early as possible because there were lakes in the area. We'd go swimming as a family in the stripper pits (left over from coal mines), some of which were several hundred feet deep. But Dad would tell us not to be afraid of deep water because "over your head is over your head, whether it's six feet or six hundred feet", and by the same token, not to take our safety for granted in shallow water.
These stories might make Dad sound humorless, but he was a real joker, constantly laughing and playing pranks. He was just very pragmatic about not being afraid of things out of our control. That attitude has come in handy dealing with this damned cancer. I do what I can and try not to sweat the rest. Faith in God helps with that, too!
-
Remembering the good time prayer and faith in God, Helps
us to stay strong and keep fighting. I love when I was little
playing the organ, Now I write poetry and music to praise
God.
-
When I was little we lived on Air Force Base. Some
times the Jets would be real noisy at night. Dad would
tell me Gods angels were flying the jets.
-
Remember the little things we played with like
jacks or ball that didnt cost alot
-
Taking flowers(weeds) to a lady that was not feeling well.
She loved them
-
Taking pop bottles back that I found to get
money or candy.
-
Trying to knock down the figs out of Grandmas
tree, To me it seem like a giant.
-
At primary school,
in the days leading up to Christmas,
singing Christmas songs and feeling so happy and excited!
-
Helping get ready to go to Japan on a ship
and was feeling lost, But alot of people cared.
We live on base and some lady really were wonderful
and caring.
-
licking the spoon from the icing on the cake
-
Hearing the bells of the ice cream truck coming down the street...running up the steps to shout to my grandma, "The ding ding man is coming! The ding ding man is coming!"
-
I love that too, thank for the memories when

-
I remember we didnt have alot of playground toys
at school, But I believe we were better at sharing
and not as rude.
-

Playing "Old Maid" with my Grandma (a card game.) We would have chocolate milk shakes that my Grandma would make. She took Hershy's syrup and milk and shook it up in a silver drink mixer. We also had different colored mints, quarter sized that we would use as rewards for winning.
-
Watching to see if the koolaid was on
sale, so we could sell in at the koolaid
stand
-
My mother waking my sister and me up at 4 AM to watch for "falling stars" when meteorite showers were in the forcast.
-
Pressing leaves between wax paper (art)
-
My Grandmother made some beautiful rugs...she used material from old dresses and quilts. She also made some latch hook rugs that are extrememly durable, and like pieces of artwork. I haven't done the latch hook in a long time, but I wish I new how to create stained glass work. I also wish I knew how to knit...keep the hands busy
In short, I wish I had learned more from my grandmother!
-
I would do rugs for Christmas presents,
How about finding beautiful rocks showing
at school. I love to find wishing rocks, flat
rocks my teacher told me..
