my onco thinks it is menapause and lack of estrogen. what do you all think? i exercise and it helps a little but not a lot!  i only took a half pill last night and it helped a little. will try whole pill tonight.

I take melatonin with Femara, but I ran it by my onc first.  I don't know about melatonin with tamoxifen, so you may want to call your onc first.  I've been taking just the 3mg pill and it works like a charm.  Also, my onc cleared me to take a 325mg aspirin or an aleve nightly to help with the aches so I sleep better.  It really helps. Joint and muscle pain is a common side effect of AIs like Femara, so maybe it's the same with tamoxifen.  I'm sure some of the ladies here on tamoxifen will chime in with the answers soon.

    Hi Diane,

When I was undergoing radiation at a large cancer center in Houston, my oncologist and radiation specialist told me melatonin was fine to take. They said it had even been linked to a decreased incidence of breast cancer. Hope you feel better soon,

I've never found any contraindication of using melatonin with tamoxifen, and some research suggests it may enhance the effectiveness of tamoxifen.  I'm not a Doctor or anything, but i do a lot of reading on the subject because my wife is a BC patient, HR+ and on tamoxifen.

I've been having really vivid dreams on melatonin. Does it ever go away as your body adjusts?

I found my body adjusted and the vivid dreams lessened.  If I take a week off the melatonin, and go back on, it starts again. I think the impact of it on sleep quality quickly wears off, not to say there aren't other benefits.

I take melatonin in a product called Tranquil Sleep by Natural Factors, works great!  Just started Tamox. so don't know if that could cause the aching.  I have arthritis so I have to take Advil and Tramadol, it sucks but better than being in a lot of pain.

melatonin is perfectly safe to use with tamoxifen. My oncologist has always said my aches and pains are more from the lack of estrogen from my surgical menopause, rather than the tamoxifen, but my pcp and gyn both said that the meds certainly contribute to it too. (I took tamox for 5 years and now take evista). I've been taking melatonin--3 mg an hour before sleeping---- for several years now.
