Dreams. . . do you think they REALLY mean anything?
Hi all,
I'm just curious what others think about the significance of dreams. Do they REALLY mean anything?
I had a dream last night that I was in a place that was in the pathway of a wildfire. As the fire got closer and closer to the area we were in, our thoughts of doom were increased and we know what our fate was going to be. But then, suddenly a rich, eccentric man opened up this door in the ground to his "home" and we were miracously invited to this secret underground mansion/bunker with a glass window on the ceiling. The wildfire blasted over us while we all watched through this glass window, destroying everything in its pathway (except us). The dream ended with all of us hugging and saying goodbye to each other as we climbed out of this "bunker" safe and sound.
What do you all think?

I love talking about dreams. I think they really mean something if they mean something to you. A very good friend of mine is a dream worker and deals with dreams all the time, and she has a very specific way of interpreting. She asks "If this were my own dream, what would it mean?" That way you can see how I see your dream, but not necessarily need to take on the interpretation as your own. As I read your dream, I thought about what all that would mean if I had dreamt it myself.
If it were my dream, I would think that the fire was my breast cancer - something dangerous and frightening. But (especially as my cancer was a complete surprise and found through a routine mammo) this eccentric, rich man who was completely unexpected came to save us - for me that would actually be the mammogram without which I would never have known I needed treatment at all. Luckily, due to treatment I am in a bubble watching the cancer go by, and coming out at the end of the ordeal with more love and connection to the people around me ( the hugging and saying good-bye).
You refer to "we" a lot - I wonder who was with you in your dream. If it were my dream, it would probably be my husband and family, who are going through all of this with me.

Dreams don't portend the future. But, they are certainlyy symbolic of what you are experiencing in your life.
I can''t tell you what your dream means exactly, but it sounds like you felt in danger of something and then felt safe. Perhap you are at the point in treatment where you really believe it's over? The wildfire of cancer has passed over and left you safe with your family?
I hope that's what it means for you.

I think some dreams are our subconscious communicating with our conscious. For years before my BC dx, I had a recurring dream. I would be lying in bed, sleeping in a semi-conscious state and I could feel an evil presence in the room. I would be frozen with fear and could not call for help. It would scare me so much that I would start moaning in my sleep..........loud enough to wake my daughter in the next room. I would have this dream at least once a month.
Haven't had that dream since my lumpectomy. So, in my case, I think that dream was my subconscious trying to warn me about something. Coincidence? Maybe, but I hope to never have that particular dream ever again.

thanks for all your insights! I am coming to the end of my treatments (finishing herceptin in Sept) so I agree that it is probably due to the stress relief of all the active treatment that is slowly but surely coming to an end.
