Please help...surgery revealed more nodes
I'm so numb. I had additional nodes taken over a week ago, and am now IDC 4.5 tumor size, with 7 rather than 2 nodes, est. +, her2-
I feel like just ending it myself. I can't take it any more.

Rachel - I think you need to come over to the Stage III board. We're a strong, supportive group of ladies who have gone through or experiencing the same fears, confusion and anxiety that you are feeling. You'll find there is hope and we'll help you get through this rough patch.
-
Ah Rachel, I'm sorry you got bad news about the nodes. How many in total were removed? - I've heard the proportion of affected nodes may be as important as the raw number, although as we all know and fear, even one can suggest spread -- and some women get mets without any affected nodes - this BC beast is so unfair and unpredictable! I'm glad you posted here, and hope you find the support you need. (being est + is a silver lining as you can benefit from the hormonal drugs.)

My tumor was 4 cm and I had 3/15 nodes positive which I was not expecting from the early test results. I was in a state of shock too, but once you talk to your doctor and do some reading and reserarch, you will see that there are many many choices of treatment that will lead to positive results. Give yourself some time to grieve and cry, I know it helped me, but don't forget that there is lots of good help and support out there to make you feel much better. I had surgery and am in chemo right now and doing fine.
-
Rachel i had positive nodes, chemo first, and no positive nodes at surgery. Did you do chemo yet? It will get those buggers if you havent!
-
Rachel, I understand how desperate and upset you must feel! There is hope though - there are so many treatments options and so many women who had bad news like you, but survived and have survived with no reoccurrence. You can do this, girl! I know it is really hard, but I know like millions of women before you, YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Hang in there! I'm praying for you!

Rachel - my heart goes out to you. I've been thinking about you, but had not seen your new threads... Look, your feelings are all normal. You are no crazier than the rest of us! Getting everything figured out is PURE MADNESS, but once you decide your next course of action you will feel better. We have all been there. You CAN do this!... It's not easy, but I hope all of us here can put strength in your sails from afar. Let me know if I can help more - I'm outside of Denver.
Take care. LOL, CalypsoGirl

Rachel: I am so sorry you got this crappy news - but remember, the course of treatment stays the same and you are going to get through this. Many of us have been in the same dark place - but everyone is right - once you start active treatment, the clouds will start to lift and you will feel stronger. It breaks my heart everytime I hear another woman has to deal with this terrible disease but there is so much hope - I cannot emphasize that enough! You are in our thoughts for a very positive outcome. LizR

Thank you, Liz. It was good to see you here. My two oncologists tell me I'm still stage 11. I'm not sure why that makes me feel better but it does. Thanks for the pep talk
Love,
Rachel

Wow, you had positive nodes before chemo and none after. That's so great!! I know it's childish, but I wish they had kept me in the dark. I was more hopeful before this news.
Love, Rachel

Hi CalypsoGirl,
Thanks for your post. Somehow knowing your out in Colorado actually helps. Maybe we could talk sometime. Thank you for being here with me!!
Love,
Rachel

It is NOT a death sentence. I know you weren't expecting that news, but the lymph nodes were doing what they are supposed to do - the contained the cancer. The fact that you are ER+ and Her2 - is a great thing. There are many gals with many nodes positive that are doing just fine and you will too. There are gals with clean nodes that progress. There is no rhyme or reason to this freaking disease. Just be strong and get through whatever they want you on - you can do this.
Wishing you all the best -
Linda

Rachel-
I am with you. I just got a bmx w/immed recon on June 22 and they took out 2 nodes and the sentinel was postive, the other was not. As a preemptive measure my surgeon took several more nodes. I, too, am concerned about the news I won't be receiving until early July on the remainder of the nodes but what everyone here told you is correct: nodes don't auto translate to mets and sometimes mets occur without node involvement. In the end, it is just another facet of this disease that we have to deal with but it is not all that ominous. Think positive because thinking negative gets you nowhere and fast.

Hi Rachel - I sent you a PM last night. CalypsoGirl

rachel. i know how you feel. i just had my biospy results. i have idc and 3 out of 5 nodes were positive. i still have to find out if it is estrogen positive or negative. i see an oncologist on tuesday. i am sick to my stomach. i wake up at 4 am everyday and start crying. hoping that this is all a bad dream! i am so scared and i am scared for my 7 and 9 year old children. i never thought that i would be dealing with this at age 45:(
-
Dear Rackie,
I know how you feel. I'm here for you if you need me. My children are 9 and 11. I feel so broken hearted. Everyone says it gets better. Right now I'm scared and I know you are too. I'm sending you love.
Rachel
p.s. we node girls have got to stick together

Rachel,
I just posted my story on the other site you created about those with positive nodes so I hope you will read it. Trust me I felt the same way you did when I was first diagnosed. I would never actually end my life but I felt like I wanted to. The anxiety is so horrible when you are first diagnosed. Nobody understands unless they have gone through this themselves. You have to take all of your treatment in baby steps b/c if you look too far down the road you will go crazy. Looking back I do not know how I got through this. You're probably sick of people telling you this but you will find you are stronger than you think. I certainly have. But it is so hard to see when you are in the midst of all this. You are not alone. I think most people must feel the way you do when you're first diagnosed. YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS!

Rachel .. I know the frustration all too well but DON'T GIVE UP!!! I had ELEVEN out of ELEVEN positive nodes from my lumpectomy and that was after Chemo! What a dissappointment! I'm about to finish my Radiation. If that doesn't get the buggers I'm hoping the hormone therapy will. Get a second opinion. I did - and with the blessing of my oncologist! My treatment plan was changed a little - I opted for removing my ovaries IMMEDIATELY - to cut off the hormones at the source - instead of waiting until after radiation. It felt good to just have another take on things and to know I'm on the right path even if the steps got shuffled a little. Keep looking for more options in your treatment plan. If you're really feeling frustrated maybe you could find a therapist or social worker who is a survivor. JUST DON'T GIVE UP!!
