dcis and sentinel node

So I had a lumpectomy that showed 1cm of dcis grade 3 with clear margins.  Then ten weeks later I opted to have a double mast with immediate alloderm reconstruction, with sentinel node biopsies on both sides.  I have read on other posts that it seems that many people thought that everything is okay, and get pathology back and their was invasion.  Does anyone have statistics on how often this happens?

    If you had true DCIS then your nodes should be clear.  DCIS means ductal carcinoma IN SITU (in site - or in other words - contained in the ducts).  The ducts are the milk ducts in our breasts.  The cancer is growing inside those ducts.  That helps keep the cancer from spreading.  Early detection and treatment - which you got - are the best way to keep the cancer from spreading and becoming invasive.  The sentinel node biopsies are a precaution.  Since you are had the double mast - it just makes sense to do the extra test on your lymph nodes.  

    Think of it as a mental insurance policy.  In future years you won't have to worry about the should have, could haves.You had your lymph nodes tested and you will know for sure.

    I believe when the biopsy shows DCIS, on final surgical pathology there turns out to be invasion 10-15% of the time.
