    Hi Harley,

I'm walking in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure in San Francisco in October and use Facebook to fund raise, too. We're having a pink lemonade and cookie fund raiser over Memorial Day weekend and a yard sale over July 4th weekend. With Mother's Day coming up, ask people to donate in honor or memory of their mother, themself or someone dear to them. Oriental Trading Company has pink BC ducks and we have "Adopt-a-Duck" for raising money. A single duck for $3.00, twins for $5.00 and triplets for $8.00. It's amazing how fast those little silly ducks sell.

    Best of luck!

That sounds like a great idea!

I think I would have trouble getting anyone to attend my fundraisers.  I guess I'll just keep bugging everyone on FB to donate....  :(

I am also participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the cure - mine is in Dallas and in November.  My husband will be walking with me.  I contacted my local newspaper about my situation and they were interested in running a story on us which they did this month - the circulation on the paper is about 50k and we made the front page!  I've received some interesting feedback.  Best wishes on your fundraising!

    Julie,

I'm not sure I could find someone interested in doing a story about bc....  well, my walk IS in Oct...

I work at Indigo Farms, a little local farm produce market, and some ladies who work at the Brunswick Beacon shop there... maybe I could call and ask to talk to somebody... I don't know anyone by name.  I also sell Avon, and one lady took my brochure, when I told her that I sell Avon, and she mentioned that a coworker at the Beacon was looking for someone local who sold Avon to do a story in the paper...   Again... I don't expect them to call me....  but maybe I could call THEM....

gee I wish I knew their NAME...   LOL

    You are braver than me...

Not sure brave is the right word.  I just sent an email to the editor after I saw a similar story about another couple who were doing a charity event for something that had touched their family - so I already knew that there could be an interest in something similar - different disease, different event, different personal experience.  Then they called/emailed me back saying they were interested in doing a story.  I will say this - it could also be a little "risky" to go so public with something like this - we ended up getting a phone call from a woman one day (who'd seen the story and looked up our phone number) trying to sell us some "magic" cancer-fighting water and some dvd's....that was interesting to say the least.  Other feedback, however, has been wonderful.

    Best wishes,

    Julie

    Julie,

It is great how you got the press to cover your story.

I never thought about spammers, and others getting my information.  I guess there are always negatives to anything.

I just talked with a friend who owns a local restuarant & putt putt golf course, and he was very interested in talking with me more, and organizing a fund raiser at his little restaurant.  It sounds like fun!!  I'm meeting with him Sunday afternoon.  I'm getting excited!!   If the local newspaper runs a story, maybe the coverage would bring people to the Grill, for the putt putt tournament!!  :D

    Thanks for all your support!!!

Tomorrow is our first fund raiser! We're selling pink lemonade, cookies balloons and pink BC ducks. I also knitted baby hats in several colors and call them, "Hats of hope for future generations." I tied a small note on each one, telling people that I am a two time BC survivor and it is my hope that future generations will never have to hear the words, "You have cancer." We also have ribbons and for a $1.00 donation, we will walk all 60 miles in honor or memory of a loved one and will give the buyer the ribbon back after the walk.

We're had rain off and on all week but tomorrow and Sunday are supposed to be nice. It's at a parade and rodeo inland. Please do a sun dance so our fund raiser attracts lots of people!

Terri is having a yard sale this weekend and we're having one over July 4th weekend. That should throw me over my goal!

    Hi I'm Rena!

I'm (confidentially please amoung women here) running for Mom. I love my mom so much. She is the nicest, sweetest person and it is horrible that she had to go through radiation and chemo and other things that hurt her. I am running on October 2, 2011 in CIBCs Run for the Cure. I am having a difficult time raising funds as I don't know many people and the people I have emailed haven't responded. I really want to show my Mom my love.

I am having a beer bottle drive this weekend outside of the Beer Store on Rideau Street, Ottawa Canada. I am nervous naturally about doing as I have never done anything like this before.

Please visit runforthecure.com, click donate and type in for participant Rena Bruner

Thank you so much in advance!

    Harley,

It is so good to see a fellow Making Strides Walker from a different state! I have been walking the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Boston, MA chapter for 13 years! This year is the first year I am having a team... I usually walk by myself. I walk in memory of my mother who passed away from breast cancer when I was 12 years old. I am 26 now and will always walk for her. If you have any tips or secrets to raising money I'd love to swap ideas with you! I'm having the most trouble recruiting people to walk with me... I don't know why?? But Good Luck with everything if we don't get to chat!
