Chemo
Hi everyone! Just got back from the ocologist and I feel like my head is going to explode. I like how they hint at what you should do without telling you up front. He mentioned the Ocototype dx test to me but I really do not want to do that. I have been thinking about it for a long time and I want to start the chemo and get on with living. I asked him if it was worth it and he didn't give me an answer. He said that chances of mine test coming back low was rare I would probably be in the middle and since I am only 31 years old with a grade 3 tumor he would (if the test was not around) do the chemo right away. So now I am sitting here getting depressed about this because I want someone to make the decisions for me. I want the drs. to tell me what to do. I know even if it is a small chance of getting cancer somewhere else I don't want that to happen. Plus I have no risk factors for breast cancer and I still ended up developing it.
What does everyone thing about this. I always go with my gut feeling and it is telling me to start treatment. Thanks, Jenn

Hi Jenn...I know your head is probably about to explode with all your decisons!
I have to say...and it never failed me....go with your gut instincts!
In my case I had the Oncotype and did not need chemo but it really surprised the oncologist. I'm older than you (40...41 now but whatever)...but he really was pushing the chemo because of my age. Mine ended up having a low score. But I was a Grade 1 so that may be why.
I was always petrified of chemo...after reading the boards here I realized it is "doable" and was getting geared up for it before my Onco. results.
I know it gets overwhelming with the decions...go with your gut!!

While it's true the Oncotype usually is high risk for recurrence in us gals with grade 3s, you just don't know. In young women, they often suggest chemo regardless, even with a low Oncotype score. My doctor is pushing forward with chemo, and hasn't even mentioned weighing Oncotype, but I want to ask for it anyway. More information is more information, in my opinion. Also, I have heard the scores will sometimes affect the kind of chemo. Let's say, for instance, you come back with a low Oncotype score. Then, your doc might choose CMF, otherwise known as "chemo light" instead of TC.
I'm going to push for the test, knowing that it is yet another demon I have to face. But, I've been changed by all these tests, waiting, and fear anyway, and I honestly wouldn't say all the changes have been bad! Certainly am enjoying the days before treatment, and am grateful I found this when I did.
