Persistent Rash : Allergic To TE ? !!

My mother has a persistent skin rash above and below her MX scar area. Pretty much localized to the breast area with a little breakout off and on below her breast on her side ( rib area ). Her PS is aware of it and is puzzled by it. She just saw a nurse practitioner for an unrelated check up. The NP spotted the rash and commented that she thought that it could be an allergic reaction to the TE. Is this likely ? Anyone else experience this sort of problem ? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks much.

HMR - try putting your post on the reconstruction board, I bet you will get responses there.

I'm allergic to latex and saw a allergist prior to me TE surgery.

She thought the chance of an allergic reaction to the TE was slight. Medical grade silicone, fairly inert.

Could you mom be having an reaction to the stitches, bandages or ointment they've used? The side area is where the drain might have been, maybe an issue with that?

Again, I don't have an answer, but I've thought of your mother many times, especially in light of the fact that at one point you indicated the mastectomy may have been unnecessary.  I do hope she will eventually get through all this.

I too had a rash on both, red bumps, some of the bumps had a yellow center. It turned out to be a fungal rash so I applied fungal cream & left off my compression bra. It cleared up in a few days! My ps thought it was because of the hot flashes & night sweats as my ovaries were removed too. best of luck & I hope it clears up!

    Hi

I have lots of allergies and had the same thing (now cleared up) I think mine was related to difft sports bras I was trying to use. Now that I have had my exchg I now think that the TE's put so much pressure on the skin while it is stretching that it is easily irritated bc the skin is so thin. I stopped wearing any  bras at all with TE's and it went away. It was also suggested to me if you want to wear a bra to use some sort of soft bandage/padding to avoid rubbing and irritation.Hope this helps

edited to add I was also worried about allergies to TE/silicone extremely rare I was advised
