Just diagnosed with IDC

Absolutely numb. Doctor also said lymph node involvement based on the FNA biopsy...She also said that if properly treated, I will do well. Help.

Cat,
So sorry to have you join us but know that you are not alone. I also have IDC. My mass is so large that I have to have a mastectomy, otherwise my breast would be disfigured. My lymph nodes are clear, but they now found a spot that needs to be investigated on my other breast.
You will need to find a surgeon (if you want to stay at your current hospital), and of course a 2nd opinion at another hospital if you are interested in doing that. That way you have two sides to choose from for treatment.
You will be sent for other tests, such as an MRI, CT scan and a bone scan. All non-invasive (iv injections and a yucky drink) but all do-able.
Please continue to ask. I am still new too but have learned a lot in the last few weeks. There are many more women who are more knowledgeable than I on here to help you too.
Best of luck and good vibes coming your way,
Erin NJ

Hi, catwood. I'm so sorry to hear this; very glad that your doc feels you'll do well. You have tons of information coming your way--pathology report, treatment plan, more tests. You'll get lots of help here, and it sounds like you have a good and caring doctor to help you with decisions and discuss options.
I'll tell you what my doctor told me: the treatment isn't pleasant but it works. The best thing is to just get through it, day by day. Stay calm; you're going to be fine.
I don't know if you have one yet--but a medical oncologist adds dimension to your team. Mine was the most reassuring of all my team, he and his staff kept me sane and calm.
Hugs, prayers,
Cathy

Hi catwood, I'm so sorry you have found yourself here - but glad you found this board, as I have found all these ladies to be wonderful, knowledgeable and supportive. You will be learning more and more about your BC soon and have lots of decisions to make. The waiting is the worst part, so I found keeping very busy in the early weeks was very helpful. Once we had decided on our treatment plan, I felt a lot better knowing that we had set in place the plan, if that makes sense. We are here for you! Sending big (((HUGS)))) to you!!!

I just got diagnosed today. I'm scared and numb.

Just a word from one who also had that day in my life...you have found a good spot and
please just take this one step at a time...from a nine year plus survivor...

I just wrote a reply....but I am not sure it went through.
What I had said was that I too was recently diagnosed with IDC. I am to have surgery this Wednesday, June 16, followed by MammoSite Targeted Radiation Therapy. I have not found anything about it in this Forum, but have read about it online.
I am sorry for you...but we are not alone. There are so many in this "Sisterhood"! I know about 16 ladies who have gone through Breast Cancer, and they all give me reason to be totally optimistic, and I am FOR YOU TOO.
