Cost-effective way to have custom-sized leisure forms

This falls into the category of "Why pay more?"
Having tried all the different fiberfill leisure forms out there and returned them all because I was unhappy with the sizing (S-M-L), and/or shape (not triangular!) and/or quality (front seams????!!!) I found that Silique makes the Fabu-Form FiberFill form (truly triangular, seamless front, available in every specific size that $$$$ breastforms come in). So I ordered a pair in my foob size. It comes as two empty "pockets" + two 1-ounce bags of Fairfield brand polyfil. They are $42 a pair.
At the same time I ordered (from another source) Silique's breastform cover for my "good" foobs which will no doubt be around forever since they're for special occasions only. Covers are sold singly, by specific size. I ordered two. They cost $7 each, so $14/pair.
Guess what? The breastform cover and the empty Fabu-Form Fiberfills are the identical exact same item! Hmmmm. I can buy a 12-oz bag of the same brand fiberfill locally for $6. $14 +$6 = $20 to end up with the exact same pair of leisure forms that are priced at $42. Plus I get 12 times as much polyfill to use/replace, when going the $20 route.
Why pay more???

Hi lovemygarden,
I am spending time this evening researching breast form options as I am having a BMX July 12 with no reconstruction. I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your post.
Thank you!

Sespebadger,
I hope you've gone to http://BreastFree.org, a lovely site from one of our sisters, Barbara (Erica), who has done excellent work covering those issues!

I am about to have a bilateral preventative mastectomy soon. I saw 3 plastic surgeons and the last one would have been my choice, if I decided to do reconstruction.
The plan for each breast was entirely different; with different risks. due to one radiated breast, i would need tissue transfer from latissimus. plus small implant at a future point. Contralateral (healthy) breast would require TE's. No immediate implants like I hoped. no free tummy tucks. I feel a tiny disappointed in my lack of courage, but I am also starting to feel more comfortable with my decision. This plan is just too much!
So I will have my surgery and then hopefully return to a new but "painless" normal. I have been handicapped by varicose malformations all my life. Just starting to feel better. so I just don't want any more pain, if I can afford it.

lovemygarden, I just saw your thread and had to comment.
The first time I went to a mastectomy supply store, it was too soon after my mast to be fitted; but I wanted to talk to a fitter anyway and find out what they had available. The fitter showed me a bunch of things, and to be nice to me (I guess), she sent me out the door with a triangle-shaped fiberfill breast form plus some extra fiberfill, at no charge. The form had a smooth (nylon?) front surface with some projection, and a soft, flat back surface that had an opening to add or take out fiberfill. It had a tag that said it was a size 3, which is the size of silicone form I would need later. That silly fiberfill form has worked perfectly for me. I wear it all the time when I'm wearing a bra. I can wear it in my favorite, regular bras (soft, stretchy cotton ones) without a pocket; and it matches my normal side in size and squishiness. I don't even bother wearing the $$$ silicone foob I eventually bought.
I decided I needed more than one of the fiberfill kind like the one I had been given, so I went back to the mast supply store a few months later to try to buy some. The original fitter was no longer there; and the other clerks had no idea what I was talking about. They brought out foam forms, oval TLC-type puffies, and regular silicone breast forms. But they couldn't come up with one of the triangle-shaped, adjustable-fill forms that I wanted. I even took mine out and showed it to them, but they just shook their heads and said they didn't have anything like that.
In desperation, I posted some pics of my fiberfilled form here, and, guess what? Someone told me it was a cover for a silicone breast form! So, it looks like I've been using the same type of custom-sized breast form you discovered. Here's a pic of mine -- the one at the top is the oval, TLC-type (which I don't like). The other two are the triangle ones.
I do have a problem, though: I cannot buy another triangle "form" (breast form cover) at that mast supply store. I've been back there two more times, now that I know what I need; but they've told me breast forms no longer come with covers and they don't have any. And, it's even getting hard to find them through on-line vendors (plus I don't know what brand this one is).
I'm gonna take a guess at it, though -- they're so cheap, and they work so well for me, they're hard to resist.

Nice to "see" you again, how are things going?

All,
If any of you sew, you could buy light weight remient fabric, trace the form you have and sew the two pieces togehther and waula you have a form to stuff. You could also buy the fiber foam to fill it with. Just an idea.

Otter what you have described seems very similar to the softie they gave me at the hospital which im very happy to continue with and have made two spares. Mine came in a sealed pack marked Priform 214 size 5/6. You can buy fibrefill from craft shops for stuffing soft toys.
