JennyB Fog is my way of life these days...if you could see my submits before spell check you would not feel so bad ...OK Dizzy thing I did yesterday.. I was on my cell phone at home when the home phone rang, put cell on hold talked to DH when. when was done ....then I remembered I was talking on my cell...couldn't find it..thats when I found the home phone in my purse.....and check the home phone dock, my cell phone was there... nobody around but felt very embarrassed..anyway...it was a very foggy day in Sacramento!
Summer38 Oh I'm sorry your feeling blue. When I start getting down I wish I had children at home to take my mind off myself ..but even though I don't have children at home (they are off living their college life)..every time my daughter has a concert down in Southern Cal. I get very emotional..Just know that your there for many other occasions and ask your ONC if you could either delay your Chemo for a day or two to be able to attend.something..I dont know if they would do that but it couldn't hurt to ask..I think you all with children are very strong, have to be, but this the proof of how strong you all are...and when its all over you will be able to handle anything and everything!
Irishtess...love your photo..thinking of being brave an putting one of me up....and your joke, a good one!

Hi Ladies! Will have my second AC chemo treatmment on June 10. Was diagnosed in April and have been on the fast track since. My first chemo made me very nauscious - although I think the compazine made it worse. Day two with the Neulesta injection was uneventful until late that evening when I felt like I'd been hit with the worst case of flu. Was in bed for two days. Days four through seven (today) improved everyday. Tired. Could sleep all day.
Having my head shaved prior to the 2nd AC...bought a wig and scarves. Some people have asked me why are you going to shave your head before your hair falls out - I guess I need to take control of something - LOL!!!! Sinead O'Connor move over!!
The tips are great and the sense of "sisterhood" on this site is remarkable. I hate having breast cancer, I hate that I have to go through this treatment - But I'm thankful for so much more.
Peace and support! Kathy

Hello Ladies,
FOTOPET -- I love your hot flashes song. Makes me crack up too. As for working, my husband is the only breadwinner in the family and unfortunately has been unemployed since January. We are living on the edge financially, but I am thankful to have him around to pick up all my slack with the kids, cooking, house, taking care of me, etc. The timing sucks, but I guess there's never a good time to be unemployed or to have cancer.
On another note, I got an email from my mom's cousin entitled "Gifts from the Universe". I opened it and found there is an organization who offers retreats to women who are in all phases of cancer treatment (treatment or recovery). For free they will allow you to attend a "learn how to fly fish" retreat for 2 1/2 days. They house you and feed you and have lessons as well as meetings about cancer, etc. It sounded very interesting to me. Apparently flyfishing is supposed to be physically theraputic to the soft tissue after breast surgery. And being out there in or by a river has to be theraputic in other ways. The group is called Casting for Recovery and they hold retreats all over the country. Here is the link:
http://www.castingforrecovery.org/regional/?page_id=4
There are deadlines to apply. I hope I get selected. I don't want to spend my entire summer "doing cancer".
Cheers,
Jen

Packjen, thought of an idea, maybe some ‘shell' shaped candy, you know - We shall beat this! Love how creative you are and know that the center you go to must love to see you! My husband not working, but I am, thank goodness. I do agree it is nice to come home to a home cooked dinner and a great husband who is doing everything possible he can for me.
Day, I wouldn't worry about addressing us, we are all here for each other. I read everything and don't mind if you mix me up with anyone of these ladies! I did have a UTI.
Redbarb, hope your treatment went well. Just finished my second on Tuesday. Teeth hurt again this time, did last treatment too. So, I guess that is what I have to expect.
Not sure if this is okay and I usually check everything out first, but didn't this time. But here goes, I had two mouth sores after my first treatment, I dipped a q-tip in iodine and put it on the sores, not enough to drip, didn't swallow anything. It burnt a bit, but they healed right away and have stayed away.
Irishtess, good sense of humor and we need that. Good luck with the next treatment.
Summer, you have every right to be emotional, it isn't always fair, but you will get through this and your daughter knows how much you would love to be with her. Hang in there.
JennyB, I hear it is called ‘chemo brain' or something. The other night I told my husband I needed to take a Lipitor before I go to bed to make sure I get a good nights sleep, I meant ambient.....I don't even take Lipitor.
Sacphotomom, I love the phone story.... CRAZY!
Drim, so happy the penguin caps are working, wish I had time to arrange it, but didn't find out until too late.
If anyone has nothing else to do...The Gainesville Sun, our local newspaper, did a wonderful article about my staff wearing the scarves to show support. It can be read at sunone.com. the write up is something like "Staff Show Support for Principal" .I only agreed to it because it showed educators in the nicest way. So many get a bad rap now a days.
Kathy, welcome on board!
Sorry so long, wanted to catch up with everyone, love to all!
-
Nanaof2 -- Thank you so much for sharing that article with us. It is beautiful. I am so happy for you that you have all that love surrounding you every day -- both at work and at home. You are blessed.

Experiment: I was reading through another month's postings and someone figured out how to post photos. I can tell you how if you want to do it.
Jen

Summer: I am so sorry that you had to go through this. I know how you feel. The hardest thing about this awful disease is that we can't do everything we want to do. My heart breaks for you. Ihope your daughter had a great time!
Tess: Loved the joke.
All those having trouble with irritation, my onoc said to use wet wipes to help avoid this SE. I didn't have any trouble with that so I can't say if it works for sure but it's an option.
Well round 2 didn't go as smoothly as round 1. Had a reaction to the taxetere after about 7 minutes of the infusion. they stopped the drip gave me benadryl and pepcid( odd combination) but it worked. They restarted the taxetere at a slower dripped and I finished the infusion. It was a little scary, but becasue of the information from this site I didn't panic. So THANK YOU to all who have posted all this great information.
-
Jen: I would love to know how to do it. I still don't have a picture up because I have no clue how to do it.

RedBarb, to post an Avatar (the picture that shows on the side of all your posts) you select "My Home" at the top of this page. Then select "Add a Photo" and browse your desktop or hard drive to find the one you want. Then "Save"
I was able to do the other way (post a photo in the middle of a post), but now I can't re-create it!!! I started by posting the photo to "PhotoBucket" (google it), then copying the link to BC.org in the Insert/ Edit image. I did it once, but now can't do it again. I could keep trying but it just gives me posts I need to delete and I don't want to fill up the logs with my mistakes. Maybe I'll try again in a few days. Sorry.

Try imageshack instead of photobucket.
www.imageshack.us
When it uploads, select the "Direct link to image" and copy what is in that box then paste it here in the "insert image".

Hi packjen, thanks for the heads up on the picture. I couldn't sleep, so was up reading and decided to try it. I uploaded from my Iphone, then went to my home and was able to do it - I think. I will see when I sign off....wish me luck.
-
Yea, that is it. These are my two sons. One shaved all the way, the other cut quite a bit offer. I didn't want either to do it, but kids do what they want to do...Both boys in their 30's married, with a son of their own.
-
packjen - I was looking at casting for recovery too. Never been fishing but the idea of a retreat of any kind just sounds great!
redbarb - so sorry you had a reaction too. It is very scary but at least it seems like our nurses stay calm. Seems like alot of us have had the reaction - must be more common than they let on.
Day - please don't worry about addressing all of us. I think that is actually impossible - we are a chatty group. Lots of times, I am not able to respond, either because I am at work (and actually working, unlike right now) or on my i-touch, which won't let me write on this site for some reason.
Well, my hair has basically given up. I gave up trying to get all the loose hair out this morning in the shower and just dried off and tied on a scarf. Then when I went to my car, I saw quite a sight. I had my windows down driving home last night and guess all the loose hair blew right back into the back seat. Looked like a pack of shedding dogs had been frolicking back there!!
So far, have not buzzed it but maybe I will get the guts this weekend while I am in the mountains. In this humidity, even the scarves are getting hot.
Or maybe that's another hot flash. . . .
-
fotopet -- I have never fly-fished either but would love to go away and learn. are you in California?
Nanaof2 -- I think my friends have taken the chemo party out of my hands. I have heard rumors of a Chemo Thera-Tea happening next.

Hi All - Checking back in after being MIA the last few days. I went back to work on Weds and haven't felt much like turning back on the computer when I get home at night. Seems I am short on energy these days.
Sacphotomom - I love the phone story! I have been doing absent minded things like that ever since this whole ordeal started. Just can't seem to focus on details these days.
nanof2 - great photo! So nice of your sons to shave in sympathy!
Summer - so sorry you missed a fun weekend with your daughter. I've filled in for my brothers with their kids on school stuff before, so from the "Aunt" perspective, we are sooo happy to help! It's a fun treat for those of us without kids to help out every now and then. I'm sure you made your friend's weekend though I am sorry you were disappointed.
mnlinda - thanks for the info on the anovulatory periods. I think those describe exactly what is happening to me
The treatments and hormones got to me today. I tried on a couple of different outfits this morning but nothing fit due to my lovely water weight gain. My poor BF was beside himself as I stood in the closet in my underwear crying over my clothes. I've been doing the cold caps and am happy to have my hair, but it looks like a haystack since I can't style it right now. So between the clothes and the hair, I felt like a wreck this morning. Fortunately, he said the right thing and I eventually found some old pants so disaster was averted. But seriously! I cried! It was pathetic but I couldn't seem to help it. Ugh. Hope these hormones settle down soon.
Happy weekend everyone!
-
fotopet: I really like having my head shaved. I've just been wearing baseball caps and have gotten a lot of complements on how good I look in a hat. I could never wear one before because my hair was longer and very thick so it would bush out around my ears. I think when the hair grows back in I may just keep it short! I think it is much cooler buzzed off and it is the one thing you have control over: When you want to buzz it off!!! Have a great time in the mountains!

Day 4 after the 2nd tx. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I was a wreck. Very, very , very dizzy (like I'm dreaming) and with no strength at all, pain in the hip and femural bones (Neulasta) and on top of it all, I don't think I slept more than 3 hrs in a day due to the steroids I had to take Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Finally last evening I asked my boyfriend to get me some beer, I said I don't care if I get sick, I just want to sleep. It worked, I slept for about 7 hours, I feel half-decent and like a human not like a zombie. I had to go to the endocrinologist yesterday, I don't know how I made it.
No real nausea to speak of, or anything else, except for my tongue. It feels like it's burned. It LOOKS like it's burned. It started feeling like this Wednesday afternoon. The edge all around, and especially in the front, looks like someone has pinched it to make it look like the edges of a ravioli. A red ravioli. I don't taste much (you know how you can't taste when you burn your tongue). It's not bleeding or anything, it's just exceptionally uncomfortable. My throat too feels sore. Sorry I haven't been online much - hopefully today I will be more, unless I manage to sleep more lol.
Hugs all
Day

GolferGirl - I hope you're doing better today. I'm sure it's the hormones so I'm hoping that will pass. I'm sorry - you really made me burst out in laughter with 'haystack'. I've been calling my hair birds nest as in - no I cannot leave the house today because my hair looks like a birds nest. But really I am thankful.
Day- I've had the same sleep and taste issues you had. I'm on Day 5 of 2nd TC right now. The steroids kept me up for 4 days (I really need to take something next time to make me sleep) and my taste buds are not good. I was describing something similar to you. My tongue feels like I burned it. It doesn't look red or anything but that's just the best way to describe the feeling. Things don't taste that great including water so I have put some lemon drops in my water but it's becoming increasingly difficult to drink enough and now I am a bit constipated. Day 4 was definitely my worst day as I just felt 'heavy' all day. But I'm happy to report I finally got some sleep last night and I'm feeling much better. Now I just need to get my taste back.
I'm hoping you all have a wonderful weekend!

For urinary discomfort, there is an OTC product called Azo Standard that you might want to try. It doesn't treat infection, but has an analgesic effect that soothes the burning. Target has it shelved with their feminine hygiene products. You take it three times a day for a couple of days - usually the problem resolves on its own within two or three days without treatment.
-
Day, hope you are feeling better. I don't think a beer will do any damage.
Drim, you and I are doing about the same. I am on day 5 of #2 TC. I felt pretty bad yesterday too and my taste buds, uck!
My biggest problem is the water. I just can't do it, I get in about 60-70 ounces, but that is it. Yesterday not nearly that much. Today woke up with what I though was another UTI, but drank cranberry juice and feel better. MNLinda, I think I will get some of the AZO stuff, thanks.
Just laying around watching tv today, thought I would try to clean, but that isn't going to happen.
-
I started rinsing with hidrogen peroxide. I do that then I do a rinse with biotene. To be honest it starts looking more and more like thrush, so hopefully thehidrogene peroxide will be abel to take care of it - it's Saturday and can't really get a nystatin prescription anywhere.
I am pretty sure my sensitivity in the nether parts wasn't a UTI. The skin (where it got "naked") was sensitive in the first 3 days after the tx. No other symptoms.
Water tastes bad right now. I used some Propel to flavor it a little bit, but propel tasted even worse.
Orange juice tastes bad. If it wasn't for the caffeine, I'd try that Lipton green tea with lemon. It's really really hot here today, so I guess I'll be just hovering aroudn the house. Feels good to be a little bit better than a zombie. I still have pains in my bones, but I was able to wash dishes and even do laundry (and I got it outside on the laundry rope, I love laundry dried outside).
Hugs all

Evening All:
Drim & Irishtess: I also go to NYC for visits...maybe in future we can get together and do lunch if we can coordinate dates and times.
Day: My I feel so sorry for you.. Seems like you having such a bad bout lately with SE's..Hoping tonight your feeling better... am very dizzy 3-7th day after treatment so know how that feels. Then it seems I come out of it except for slight nausea and horrible heartburn...
Redbarb: you are a brave person.. Glad you got through it and now that they know exactly what to do you will not have that reaction again
nanaof2: what a beautiful story ...touched me so..thanks for sharing
Packjen: love the t-shirt..great pic of you
Kas851: you are so right about the hair.. You do have to take control of something. I buzzed last week and happy I did. I cried and cried but I could not watch hair fall out..It was too painful.. this was better for me..
Well everyone..have wonderful Sunday...This is my good week so I think I am going to have a beer or enjoy a cocktail....(for sure I will need rolaids later)
-
My taste bud are so out of whack since the 2nd chemo ..at a Thai restaurant yesterday I discovered ginger tea with honey , I can taste it and it sooths the tummy too...just a thought...I just want to taste something....not just texture!
-
Chemo started for me May 7th, after the initial treatment, went back for labs, my white blood count was at a 1, the onc told me should be at least around a 6 or 7. After my 2nd treatment May 28th I went back for the Neulasta shot, again went in for labs several days after and my WBC is at a 2 now. The onc said some people benefit from the shot, others don't but that I needed to lay low and not really be around anyone for fear an infection will push back my next treatment, he seemed very concerned. Is there anything I can do? Im starting to go a little koook-a-doodle-doo in the noodle being in the house all day. My dog has even learned more english since I've been home. Just venting I guess.
-
This has been an eventful week. On Tuesday, I started my period. I had no warning and it had been 18 days since the last one. It was crazy heavy and no cramps. Worse than when I had my children. I called the onc. to run it by them and they sent me to the gyno. He did a endometrial biospy. I think it was my ovaries having their last stand as one of us posted before. They just wanted to make sure I guess. I am getting real tired of doctors and tests. Oh and by the way, as soon as I went to the gyno, my period went to a trickle.
This morning, I noticed my hair was falling out big time. It started 2 days ago, but it was bad enough this morning that I had to either shave it or get ready to call the plumber to unclog the shower. My DH and both of my girls took turns giving me a mohawk. We took a couple of pictures and then they took the rest off. The first thing I thought of when I saw myself in the mirror was Tim Gunn (from Project Runway) saying, "That's a lot of look."
My next A/C treatment is Wednesday. I hope it goes as well as the first one. I will be thinking of you all this week and hoping we are all SE free.
-
Ok, my tailbone and hips are just killing me. I thought the Neulasta pain was only in the long and flat bones? I took Tylenol and it's like it does nothing. And this thrush makes any food tasteless and hurting. Thank goodness I have an onc. appt. tomorrow!
-
Day, I got the shot this past Tuesday, didn't get the bone pain but it felt like I had the flu all week long. Spent most of Saturday in bed and really sad, also I've been getting muscle spasms in my chest and lower back, the onc said that wasn't a side effect, started taking 600 mg of advil, seemed to help a little bit. I hope you feel better soon.
