Hi all! I walked 2 miles every day except Weds (yesterday) work was kooky and nutzo, but I did get to do the 90 min Yoga class. Today did the 2 miles and the Weight Training to manage the lymphedema. OH GUESS WHAT! There was an older woman (even older than me! Gray hair and all) in the weight training area of the gym today! So I was not alone with the young studs, ha! It was great.

Deanna, I was thinking of you today when I was walking ( and others of you! ) who walk so many miles. I so admire you all for somehow fitting it in!!!

Well, I'm still plugging away!  A little over 5 miles this a.m.  No walking yesterday a.m. (too busy), but I did hit the athletic club for an hour last night.  Then I couldn't sleep well at all last night for some reason.

Spring, I have to chuckle at your age awareness. I have to admit I had some of those feelings the first time or two I went, but so far no one's given me any strange looks.  I respect anyone who wants to improve their health and appearance, and I would hope others would, too, although I think some gyms probably are more geared to hard core body builders.  But if any of them feel superior to a mature breast cancer survivor who is determined to get her health back, then that's their problem and I feel sorry for their shallowness.  And just between us, I'll bet we look a heck of a lot better than most of their mothers and grandmothers!       Deanna

Enjoylife, you just gave me the story that made my day

Deanna, I think the same thing.  I see people out obviously struggling to start to get in shape and think, good for you.  That's all I see anymore.  Determination and strength.  Body building form, muscle or body shape is for someone else to judge.  I just concentrate on the fortitude I see

Only walked one mile today. Just not feeling very well! Hope tomorrow is a better day.

I agree! I think it is so great to see all types in the gym. Thank goodness  we are becoming more aware!

Springtime I hope you feel better today.

I Zumba'd yesterday and loved it. The instructor commented on my getting the routines down by my 2nd class.  I think I'll be doing that a lot this summer, it is going to be too hot to do anything outside.  We have heat warnings all weekend.

Well have to get my DD ready for a week long leadership conference in Tahoe.  I'll miss her, but she will have so much fun.

Enjoy your Saturday everyone.  Kari, enjoy the beautiful weather.

kittycat if you are up to it I am going to 24 hour tonight.  It is the one on GV Pkwy and Sunset at 5:30. The instructor is great.

It is sure too hot to be outside.  I hope we do not have another heat warning today.  I am starting my extended school contract today driving all over the city to see our kiddos in year round schools.  I bring a cooler with lots of h2o and drink it like crazy.

    Enjoy your Monday everyone!

I've done pretty good staying on track getting aerobic and strength in every day.  Feet are freakin killin me though.  I know the numbness is unlikely to get a lot better after over a year, but sure hope the pain goes away.  Had a lot of fun doing yoga today.  One of those days where you really get into it and let the world go away for awhile.

KMMD - you go girl! still doing it though your feet are complaining!

Kitty and Diane - we used to have a lady here who was a Zumba teacher! She would be so happy to know you are doing zumba. Or zumba-ing?

I walked 2 miles or biked 4.3 miles (in gym) and did weight training since my last post.

Now the skin on the side of my breast is burning occasionally, any of you have this?? This is the rads/lymphedema side. I have no idea what is UP!! I swear, I wish this skin would just go numb and leave me in peace! What a pain. I noticed this today when i woke up -- and it's been going on all day, on and off. UGH. One more thing. It's like the gift that keeps on giving!!!

kmmd ~ Sounds like you're doing so much these days!  Good for you!  As far as the feet, have you tried soaking them in Epsom salts?  I did that a few days ago at my DH's suggestion (n one of those little portable, electric foot bath tubs), and it actually made them feel a little better temporarily, although it didn't really address the pain/burning sensation.  But it was pleasant enough that I'll probably do it again and hope that over time it might help some.  And it leaves your feet really soft.

Spring ~ I'm wondering if the burning sensation, which I've also had recently in my Diep breast (and of course think of the bad things first!) might be nerves regenerating?  My PS told me that will happen for up to 18 mos.  He and I were talking about some pain I've had in my lifted breast, and he assured me it's probably the nerves regenerating, and I think he was right, because I have regained a lot of nipple sensation just recently that I'd lost on that side when he lifted it.  Anyway, I'm wondering if that's what you're experiencing now?

I walked 6.6 miles this morning.  Now that I'm also going to the athletic club, I can really notice a difference in my walking stamina, and I also feel a difference in my posture.  It's interesting that so little work (I'm still on the 2nd or 3rd lightest weights) can make such a difference so quickly, but I'm really feeling it.

Kari ~ Sorry we couldn't meet up when you were in Fallbrook.  Next time!     Deanna

Hi girls- I'm back!  Had a great trip.

Deanna, such a bummer we couldn't make it work, but we gave it the old college try.  I did get to meet another gal from these boards, Juli, in Thousand Oaks, which was wonderful.  I've been blessed with so many friends, one of the positive things about BC in my opinion.

Managed a 45 minute walk and a 15 minute bike ride yesterday and some arm work with my 3 lb weights and lots of stretching.  Too many hours in the car! UGH

Going to my DD's (Krystle) after work to check on her.  My younger DD (Tiffany) has a severe kidney infection and I've been worried about her, waiting for her call any time now to let me know how she's doing.  UGH UGH UGH

Oh Kari - you have your hands full with the two DD being under the weather - I hope they will both feel much better soon and in the meantime make sure you look after you!!

Kmmd - you are so kind - I really don't feel like I could be an inspiration to anyone - on the contrary when I read about all the different exercise and work outs you and the other ladies here do I feel very lazy.

Spring - yes I guess I have lost the equivalent of a small person - unfortunately that 'person' is staying very close to me just ready to 'join' me again at the least little slip up.  Hope you get to the bottom of the burning sensation I think Deanna may be right about nerve regeneration.

Deanna - Wow 5 miles - I can barely manage 2!!! My DS is on the other side of the country to you. He's in NJ - finding his feet and exploring when it gets cooler in the evenings!!

Diane - you are right about one thing - well I speak for myself anyway - I am finding it very hard to stay motivated lately - I've been gaining and losing the same 4 or 5 lbs over the past few weeks and am very unenthusiastic doing my Wii Fit and I use any excuse not to go for a walk!!

Harley, Maura and Kitty (and anyone else I overlooked) hope you are doing well.

Any news from Meg?? or mumayan??

Okay please, please lets turn up the motivation - fling as much as possible in my direction!!  I am so nervous that I will just slip back into my old habits, stop exercising and pile on the weight.  A lot is happening at the moment that has me stressed - our office has officially closed and if any business is forthcoming we will work from home - it's so disappointing. Ill health, mum's dementia and now this so I do feel sorry for myself and my crutch use to be food - it's hard not to revert to old habits!!

Anim, NO NO NO to the person coming to jump back in !! :)

Deanne, maybe so on the nerves regenerating. Of course, I was wondering if it was the lymphedema moving from under my arm pit to my breast!!! ha! Today it is a LOT less. Some "phase". Mostly the sensation I feel is an odd sort of pain! like a bit "ouchie". ugh.

No walking today! I am having 15-20 ladies from my church circle over to celebrate the end of the year and I have been getting ready ready ready!

Tomorrow, back to the walking! Also, my youngest is graduating High School tomorrow! Yay! I better walk early - or it will be another day of no walking!

Ainm, good to hear from you!  Sorry about your office closing, big bummer.  However, the good news is that you can work from home when the time comes.  So your DS is on the East Coast!  Terrific!!  Don't revert back to your old habits, you have come so far!!!!!!!!!!!  Think of us, walking right along beside you, we are WITH YOU!!!!!!

Meg has 3 chemo's done and  5 to go, she's bald and beautiful!

Spring, I hope its just nerve regeneration like Deanna said.  CONGRATS to your younger DD graduating high school tomorrow!  That's huge news!  Have fun with your church circle girlies.

I actually went to the mall at lunch and power walked 35 minutes!  I was sweating on the way back to work.  I am stopping on the way to my DD's for a couple of pita's full of veggies for us so we can eat together.  Oh my younger DD is feeling better than yesterday.  She spiked a fever and was shivering last night, they had to give her a shot in her butt along with antibiotics.  I'm relaxing my mind over it now...

    ok, I'm really hungry today...Undecided

Springtime congrats on the youngest.  Where is he/she going next year?  i'll be with you next year at this time.  We are college shopping next month.  I know I'll be a blubbering idiot next year.

kari congrats on the power walk, the mall is a good place, unless you shop and spend as you do it.

I lifted weights today, and it felt good!

    Enjoy the Glee final tonight!

Ok ladies I will need as much support as you can give me.  Tomorrow I'm going to start a walking program.  Don't know how far I'll get, but I will be giving it the ole college try and continue to try and increase it every day.  I've done enough excuse making and it's time to get serious come rain or shine.  Have a new battery in my pedomiter so watch out, here I go.

    Hi everyone,

I am like Ainm these days, seem to be losing & gaining the same 2-3#'s. So frustrating....

I got a newer model of my NordicTrack Pro Skier. Didn't cost me a thing, was able to swap mine for the model at my DH's high school before it was taken to Salvation Army. Was having trouble with my feet sliding on the skies, the pad was thin & smooth & my feet would slip as I "skied." And, it didn't have an incline adjustment. The newer one has different/better non-slip pads & an incline adjustment. Much better. Now I have to get on it. LOL Been so busy lately, but I know that is no excuse.

Bought my first medicine ball, an 8# one. That is a workout!

Think of everyone often. You do motivate me, I want you all to know that.

    {{hugs}}

Ainm: sorry to hear the motivation is hard to find these days.  Can you pull out the 10 min rule on those days?  Throwing all the motivation your way that I can.

Deanna, I'll try Epsom salts.  I am getting some strength and energy back.  I think it has more to do with them figuring out I was a little hypothyroid then anything else. However, as my Onc pointed out, without all I've been doing I'd really be a mess right now if I hadn't been exercising all this time.

Yikes, I've been out of commission.  Bad case of stomach flu.  Holly crap.  One thing chemo does for you is make sure you vomit really really well.  All the shivering brought back all those taxotere memories.  uggghh.  Feeling weak as a kitten but a little more human finally.  Maybe a gentle short yoga day

Lauri I love to walk! that being said I will not be doing much these days.  We are over 100 these days.  I am now having to go and do the eliptical torture machine.  I will be going up your way next month.  My sister lives in Bellingham and my DD and I are going up there (Seattle...) and look at colleges.

I loved the Glee final last night! I am so happy Army Wives is still on and that The Closer starts soon.  Otherwise I'd have nothing but HGTV to watch and my husband hates it when I do that cause it ends up costing him $$$.

    Happy Wednesday everyone!

Hi, Laurie ~ From your bio, it sounds like you just finished chemo last month.  Congratulations!  I hope you find walking a great way to heal and rebuild.  And don't expect too much from yourself at first.  It took me several days to get out the door the first time (about 15 mos. ago), and back then I was only doing 1.5 or 2 miles.  Also, I never look at my pedometer while I'm walking.  I just put  it on, walk, and don't check it until I get back to the house.  Another BCO member/walker once commented every step she takes is a step away from breast cancer, and that idea keeps me going even when my motivation is thin.

Aimn ~ You have come so far!   Please don't give into those negative feelings or cravings!  You will absolutely hate yourself if you do.  It's NOT worth it!    I'm sorry about all the problems you're dealing with, but it's just the current world economy and aging (with your Mom) -- things that aren't your fault in any way.  Many of us are in the same boat -- my business is really crappy to the point of worrisome these days, and my MIL, who is in assisted living against her will, is causing disagreement & a huge amount of stress in our family.  But exercise can be a salvation, both physically and mentally.  So please, if anything do MORE than you have been (I am), and I think it will really help carry you through.   (((Hugs)))   Deanna

P.S.  Oh, almost forgot... I walked 4.3 miles this a.m.  And I will also be leaving early tomorrow for a few days in NM, where I plan to try to focus on DH & family, so may not be posting much for a few days.  Take care everyone ~

P.P.S. ~ Spring, congratulations to you and DD!  Enjoy this special day!

Yesterday was the first day of wearing my pedometor and I did1,526 which I know isn't much but it's a start.  I'm doing a breast cancer walk on Saturday here in Marysville so that should bring my steps up lol. Since I'm walking to the event too the steps should go up quite alot. Wish me luck everyone.
