Hi Leah -- I'm so sorry you're going through this stressful time.  Of course I am hoping you get good news, but if it is mets to your bones it is very, very treatable.  You can have bone mets and feel no different at all -- life carries on as usual.  Lots of hugs and fingers crossed for good news.

Leah:  We are all praying for you and hope the news is all good.  We are dealing with a beast in breast cancer but we can beat it.

Leah, I look every day for word from you both here and with the "other" group......hoping and praying that you get good news. I also had a suspicious area on my rib a couple of years ago but the bone scan came back clear.....so it could be a false positive too.

I am so touched by all of your good wishes and prayers.

BUT I STILL DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER!!!!!!! The onc had trouble getting through to me, said the CD's images were almost illegible. So tomorrow I go to get another copy (and will make suire it's checked!) and bring it to him n Sun am.

My emotions are all over the place. But, in the midst of this there is good news. I have a new granddaughter, born last Thurs am. She brings me comfort.

    Leah,

Congratulations on your new baby granddaughter,  What a joy!  And a nice distraction while you wait for news.  When we were children, we used to say, "Cross your fingers and toes".  I am crossing my fingers and toes for good news for you.

Congratulation on the grandbaby!  I get to see my 7 month old grandson this weekend.  I had no idea how wonderful they are till I had one of my own.

    Still hoping for good results.

I went to the onc today, and he viewed the images while I was there. He doesn't seem to have any doubts that this is mets - a part of my sacrum is eroded away and it appears that it's cancer that has done this. He's the cautious type, and says there's a "genius radiologist" who comes to the facility on Mon and Thurs and he's going to show him the images. He said the radiologist will probably recommend and MRI and possibly a bone biopsy to confirm.

Thank you to everyone for your love, concern, and prayers. I will keep you posted, though it looks like there's really no question.

Oh Leah, I am so sorry about this "almost certain" news.  ((gentle hugs)).  If you need to vent, here is the place.  BC news is not easy to take.  It is like a devastating tornado running though your life.  Until you hear about "what's next" you can enjoy your little granddaughter with her delicious baby smell and teeny fingers and toes and those large trusting eyes babies always seem to have.

Leah, Still hoping the genius radiologist and the biopsy show it's something else. I agree with everyone else, your kindness and concern have always helped me, and I want to help in any way I can.

Hugs and hopes, and mazel tov on the new granddaughter.

Aw Leah, I'm sorry.  I'm glad you're getting a great radiologist to have a look and treat you.

And congratulations on your new granddaughter.  Nothing's more joyful than a new precious life in your family.

There doesn't seem to be any doubt.

Onc said Genius Radiologist thought it was probably mets but said bone scan from Nov 08 (around time of original dx) showed something in that area (that area of bone was slightly "whiter" than rest  of bone) and that's  apparently "not consistent" with the way bone mets start. He suggested an MRI. I spent an entire week trying to get an MRI appt, but the closest I could get was the end of July (there are only 6 MRI machines in the entire country so it's hard to get). So I emailed the onc, told him the situation, and asked about changing treatment even without the MRI.

So he took the images to yet another radiologist (a bone expert apparently). Dr. Bones said there are very few things it could be, and it looks like mets to him. So we're going ahead with treatment (I've been switched from tamox to Femara, and will also get Aredia infusions every 4 weeks). I'll still keep the MRI appt, but the onc and I both agree, even if it's not mets something is eroding my sacrum. Also, Femara is appropriate for me either way.

Thank you for your good wishes and prayers. They are strengthening to me.

    Leah
