Bottom Rib Cage/Abdomen Pain

Options

I have this pain at the bottom of my right rib cage, top of abdomen.  The area is tender to the touch.  It seems to get worse as the day goes on.  I sit at a desk all day long and by midafternoon I have to get up and walk around while rubbing the area.  I have diarreah off and on and an itch.  The itch may be on different parts of my body and at different intensities but it basically happens all day long.  I have one more Herceptin treatment left, but am afraid this is just canceritus as my family calls it (mom had BC also).  Now that I'm at the end of treatment, everything could be metastases in my mind.  Please help and relieve my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand the worry -- every twinge and pain is scary, and usually nothing to worry about.  Your onc will probably order up some scans now that your year of herceptin is done.  Getting that clear scan will set your mind at ease.  And congratulations on finishing Herceptin!

I have 2 more of the herceptin left.  I get the abdomen pain off and on and the itching too, although infrequently.  I've had more trouble with insomnia than anything else.  The doctors seem to only focus on the possible heart problems with the herceptin, but there are quite a few other SE's with it, including abdominal pain, diarrhea and itching (and insomnia). The Herceptin website doesn't readily list them, but they have a pdf file that has the complete list of documented SE's.  I've also looked it up on several pharmacy/drug guide sites and they are listed there.

My favourite place to find out SEs is Medlineplus.  Here's the link for Herceptin:

    http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a699019.html

It doesn't mention itches but does mention tingling on the skin -- maybe that's what's happening.

Thank you for your posts.  I think I've just scared myself. I went back and read my biopsy report and had not just the tumor that was "extensive measuring just over 5 cm at the widest point" but DCIS throughout the breast tissue and spots of IDC in the nipple.  The lymph nodes were matted together in up to 3 cm nodules. Just the end of Herceptin jitters and your words of wisdom helps quite a bit!
