I was diagnosed 4/30 with lumpectomy on 5/10 (unclear margins) then re-excision on 5/20 (not one cancer cell!!!) . My dilemma is whether to do Arimidex. It reduces my risk by 5% but I am 58 and the side effects (osteoporosis, stroke - runs in my family but not until late 70's) have me flummoxed. I chose not to do chemo (another 5% reduction in risk) due to side effects/quality of life and I feel very much the same way about Arimidex. I'm really in a qundary because I need to decide by 6/10 what treatment I am doing. Anyone who has done this before, I welcome your stories. Thanks BCO, for giving us this forum to learn/cry/laugh!

I am on femara.....I had just about the same stats as you...small tumor one node oncotype of 22. So me dm rate is 14 percent with horomnal therapy.

The good thing is unlike chemo, you can always go off it, if the SE's are problematic. My only SE's have been a drop in libido, and a drop in bone density. I have had none of the aches and pains others report. I don't know if I will want to do more than 5 years, but I have read even 2-3 years gives you a good benefit.

    Good luck!

Thanks, cookiegal. I forgot to post that the one node had micromets <.2mm and mammo/ultrasound said the suspicious mass was 3.5 cm but before surgery I did (and am doing)  two weeks of Flor-essemce tea and cruciferous veggies, berries, etc. The tumor was 1.8 cm. Plan to ask docs about that but they will most likely smirk. I may try it but if it gets too bad, see ya don't wanna be ya.Why would your rate be 14% with hormones?
