So what to eat or not eat or drink or not drink now?

Anybody have any good ideas or books on the topic of nutrition and diet?

Is soy in or out? What about chocolate and red wine?

I'm confused and afraid of everything right now!

I just wanted to reply to say keep strong. I am new to all this as well. Currently awaiting the complete report from my biopsy. I think of foods and drinks and what to have or not to have. Once treatment starts, I know there are things I will be avoiding. Especially with chemo - most of what I am finding is by searching on the web. I am sure someone out there will have answers for you. Not sure about you but I am glad I found this site. The support on here is wonderful.

Go read the nutrition stuff here and on the ACS website.  I was told not to eat soy which primarily affects nutrition bars in my case as use them when cycling long distances.  And no antioxident supplements while undergoing active treatment.

I don't go nuts on the soy part, but do avoid obvious major sources.

On wine, the subject is a lot more confusing.  I gave up alcohol during chemo as my liver had more than enough stuff to deal with.  I was thrilled when I could have red wine again.  This clip may help.  Michelle Holmes is one of the major experts in the country on the topic of breast cancer and has been working with the Nurses Study for a number of years.

    Good luck with everything!

No diet restrictions from my onco. All he told me was to keep the 80-20 ratio: 80 percent of my food should come from plants (fruits and veggies, especially dark green leafy ones), 20 percent from animals (I decided to stay with fish, not really a meat-person but love cold milk, light cheese, scrambled eggs).

On days when I feel I can't eat, I make myself a shake or I puree whatever food has been prepared and enjoy the taste minus the slow chewing. I especially love thick, creamy squash-carrot soup.

I'd advise you to stay away from strong spices though. I have hemorrhoids brought about by diarrhea and they hurt to the point I'd be crying like a baby just to pass air. Further research on hemorrhoids showed that spices can cause flareups so, from one person who feels she can be sainted for martyrdom on the strength of this extraordinary punishment, stay away from the heat!
