Really Sore and Red Under Arm

Hi all,

I finish the last of 30 rads tomorrow and up till last week it's been fairly uneventful (after chemo it was easy).  But now the area under my arm pit where they were treating the nodes is super red, and the tissue underneath is so sore I have a hard time sleeping on that side.  They stopped treating that area last week, but it actually looks worse now than last week.  The doc said it should go away in about a week, but of course I'm worried it's IBC flaring up or something of the like.  Anyone else experience this?

Thanks,
Sharon

i was told to expect to be worse before I was better and thats pretty much what happened. I did not sleep on my zapped side for most of the time I was getting zapped and two weeks after.  Now, at 3 weeks past, I am feeling really good.   I was able to deal with pain by taking OTC stuff but I understand that some women need heavier pain killers.

    Hang in there!

Go the the pharmacy and buy some Aquafor.  It DEFINITELY helps!  I had the same thing at the end during my boosts.  Your skin will start to peel off and get very raw, so keeping it moisturized will help.  Or, the doctor can give you an RX for Silvadene cream.  I know how much it hurts :(  But, it will be just a few days until that pain goes away :)  Oh, and the bonus for me is that I no longer have to shave that lymph node area HAHA!  Gotta see the bright side in all of it right?  :)  I am exactly 2 weeks out.  Just itchy now and the aquafor does help tremendous, but it is greasy!

     Hugs!
