For the last 7 months I have been taking Boniva for mild osteoporosis. I am on Aromasin and know it is hard on the bones. Onc suggested I start Zometa. What would be the benefit for someone without mets to take Zometa rather than Boniva?

I want to bump this up as my PCP wants me to start Boniva, my Onc - nothing, and I want Zometa as it helps prevent TNBC mets. (Need something as my hip bone is almost completing gone.

I am now taking Tamoxifen instead of Aromasin as Aromasin was hard on my bones causing or contributing to osteoporosis of my spine and hip even though I regularly took calcium supplements and Boniva. I visited a bone & jt specialist who aid she was fine with my staying on Boniva unless my onc, who suggested switching to Zometa,  wanted me on Zometa for the extra cancer benefits. I worry that Zometa may cause jaw and dental problems.  Decisions, decisions!

    Dear Ma,

My Onc flatly refused to give me Zometa infusions (I am on BONIVA & was on Tamox,Aromasin,Arimidex for 4 1/2 yrs.) even though my Osteopenia has progressed.

Her reasoning is that it is only approved for this use  in the metastatic setting. Hmmm so do we hope to become meta to get the IV??? Seems contradictory to me!

In response I decided to stop AIs early (roughly 6 months) to slow down the degenerative process a bit.

     No set answers,,sorry,

    gentle hugs, Marcia
