Penny, your post is very reassuring -- thank you! My BS @ UCLA is on maternity leave until October, so I'm going to have this checked out at our local breast center. Unfortunately, although they have some truly excellent docs here whom I really like (they actually found my bc), they hadn't even seen a DIEP reconstruction prior to mine, and had dx'd my previous area of fat necrosis as cysts, when both my BS & PS immediately knew from just feeling it that it was fat necrosis. So, you're right about many docs not knowing what they're feeling, and I guess I don't have 100% confidence in my local team due to that past experience. Oh, well, hopefully, it'll be pretty straightforward --and B9!
I'm off to walk -- with thoughts of Diane's 8 mile record playing in my head! :) Deanna

I watched a new dvd on my computer last night its a 20 min workout and I sweat like a pig if they sweat but I am going back to it tonight I had a hard tiime doing all the steps she did but as long as your moving those legs and arms you will sweat so day one was good. It is a dvd that has I think 15 20 minute workouts a different one for each 3 days they ask you to rest on the 3rd day my thing is finding the time for it so 20 minutes is great and the flower beds I am so far behind on because of the rain and weeds ..ha so I iwll repeat # 1 tonight to get the steps down if you want to know how much your out of shape start up and you will find out wow makes me want to do it now at work ....
-
Just finished 6.26 miles... 94 degrees outside... never would have made it that far without Diane's inspiration! Dripping sweat (toxins)... Hooray for motivational friends! Deanna
-
Deanna that is awesome!!!!
I am glad I could help! You go girl. diane
-
Has anyone taken part in the LGFB WWA class? I'm going to it on the 24th in Everett and was wondering if could tell me a little bit about what happens at them.
-
God help me walk tomorrow! This is three days in a row of NO WALKING -- this is a new BAD record for me! Had to go into work today, and then DD had a crisis. ANYWAY. tomorrow for sure.
Just read the Weight lifting and Lymphedema!!! Thank you so much Binney!! Just reviewed, makes a lot of sense. I book marked too. I am going to try and go tomorrow. I feel the heavy feeling building and the sensitivity starting. Wednesday! YEP! I need to go 2 times a week somehow I think to keep this annoying feeling at bay! I have tried to do things at home, but so far cannot replicate the good effects of those weight machines. Right now, i am not building any weight, just staying the same, my upper body is toning and looking better, to boot! I do wear a shape garment (very tight fit) when I do this and my sleeve.
Does anybody else do weights and notice a reduction in Lymph symptoms??
Deanna, I also had a lump in my breast, it is a freak out. I could feel it. It was on my recon prophylactic side, everyone said it is likely nothing. But I did have an ultrasound - (I won't have mammograms, they never worked for me, had a "mass" totally undetected !! and I don't want the radiation ). anyway. The ultrasound showed it was Fat Necrosis about the size (she said) of a lima bean. I'm to go back after 6 months and get a recheck.
I am sure it is something like this. Know I will be thinking of you!! Please do let us know. I know this is an unsettling time. Lump in breast or seeing "Mass" on paper... we cannot be expected to have no reaction to these things!!! We're human... I tried to keep busy and tried not to focus on it. Just get through the waiting time!!!Love love love to all! Spring.
-
Deanna - hugs and know it isn't anything. Think positive!
Well my weight lost is not my thyroid. Next...... it might be my meds. but they haven't changed in over 6 months. Looking forward to my trip.
Everyone have a great weekend. Hugs to all.

Tried out the fitness club we've joined last night. Just 2 miles on a bike, 1 mile on a treadmill, and maybe 15 mins. of various arm, chest & leg machines -- all at the next-to-lowest settings. Oh, well, gotta start somewhere, but those chest machines feel really weird on my recon side. And I'm not crazy about a treadmill compared to walking outdoors, but it will be nice for the summer. I also need to re-program my mind about the "calories burned" information, because all I could think was, how many do I need for a Hagan-Daz milkshake? And I wonder how many bites of cheesecake that equals?! The couple of pieces of equipment we have at home don't have that feature.
I also just walked 5.1 miles this a.m. And I also just cancelled my mammo & u/s for tomorrow. DH saw the RX for them and convinced me that I need to go to UCLA because they know all my surgical hx and have more experience imaging Diep reconstruction. Will keep you posted.
enjoylife ~ Weeding flower beds counts as a workout!
Joy ~ Nothing like a little road trip to put us back in touch with feeling normal! Have fun! Deanna
-
Deanna, your DH is a smart guy! keep us posted please, thinking of you. A treadmill is sooo different than the real thing isn't it? We have the calorie feature on ours, I hopped on this a.m. for the first time in a long time for a quick walk before work. I burned 100 calories (only) and my mind was already doing the 'what can I have' thingie...heehee
Was just talking to a coworker about strength, etc. My arms used to be nice and toned/I had some nice buff biceps!! well that was pre-bc...have been trying slowly to build my arms back up, but am still on the light weights. The LE risk is always lurking...
A couple of nights ago, I went for my walk after work and I even ran/walked half of the way! Deanna, you were my inspiration for that. Last night went to my DD's house, brought a pizza (she was craving) and we ate, took the pups for a walk and watched a couple of tv shows (Parenthood & Glee) and played and talked. I LOVED IT!! Gosh, how I miss my girls, I just really enjoyed myself.
Big HI to all, let's get the GUNK out as Spring says!!
-
Sorry I haven't been online for awhile. Hope everyone is doing good, and keeping active.
I have been going out almost every day, walking and running, or walk/running, in my case. I still haven't been able to run the whole course, and I'm kind of discouraged.
I just got a new pair of running shoes and now I have to get out there and RUN!
-
Today I walked! It felt so good....I could feel the gunk clearing. Went to the gym and did all the weights, I hope my lymph "full feeling" will be lessened by tomorrow. Then DH and I bowled 2 games of Wii bowling!
Deanna, funny about the calories! Put something over that readout!! I agree with Kari, DH is smart, and I'm glad he knows. Please ask them if you can just do ultrasound ... I hate to think of the mammo radiation!
Harley, I admire your walk/running!
-
Spring,
I admire how you do the gym and lift weights... I tried, but I just can't seem to keep up a routine.
Happy Friday to all!
Harley
-
Deanna - I am sending BIG HUGS to you and hope you have GOOD NEWS!!!!! The waiting is the worst part!
-
Deanna,
Let us know your mammo. results... Have you rescheduled at UCLA? I'm confused...
Good Luck!!
I had a chest xray 2 weeks ago, and my surgeon didn't get the results.... til they called the hospital again, and of course, I had already left to go home.... GRRR.... But my surgeon told me that when he got the report, he would not call.... unless it was bad news. He said that he figured it was all good.... but darn, now I need the confirmation....
Harley
-
That stinks Harley. I would want the confirmation too!
Walked 2 miles today and had my third Zometa infusion. Not bad this time so far...!!!
-
Spring
Glad your Zometa infusions are going well. My onc. won't do Zometa til my bones fall apart totally from the Femara that I am taking...
Oh, and good news, my surgeon's office called yesterday, when I was out running errands. My chest xray was all CLEAR!! YIPPEE!
Have a great weekend, all!
I have to go get ready for WORK... it is SO WRONG to have to work on SATURDAY or SUNDAY!
I just got back from a run, wearing my NEW SHOES!! Got a new pair of ASICS Gels... they are really comfortable running shoes!
Ta Ta, girls....
Harley

Very behind checking in on everyone. Long hours the last few days so the workouts definitely went by the 10 min rule. Had a great one today though. Felt good. Guess its a good thing I don't feel as good when I'm not working out.
-
Harley, YAY about the xray! KMMD, 10 min better than nothing.
No body aches from the Friday Zometa infusion this time! Yay!!!
2.4 miles today. A good day!
-
My feet as screaming at me for having such a good work out yesterday. Sure was worth it though!
Spring, yahoo for no Zometa aches. And Harley, that counts for you for good X-ray news too.
Good weather is finally here for a few days. Think it will be a walk for DH and I today
-
Congrats Harley!!!
Springtime what a great walk! How is the weather these days?
kmmd my feet are also screaming!!! However, not from walking, I went to a black tie function and had to wear heels. That is so not me anymore. I think I'll just drink some coffee and put up my feet, what a great Sunday plan.
diane
-
Happy Sunday, everyone! I'm smiling to read about your clean chest x-ray, Harley!
I just finished a 3.8 mile walk in near gale force winds. What a strange month of weather this has been! Many days of extremely high wind, but temps alternating from the high 90s/low 100s a couple of days ago to warmup suit weather today. So weird!
DH and I hit the gym on Friday evening and rewarded ourselves with our favorite margarita pizza that happens to come from a place in the same neighborhood. I can see that becoming a once a week habit now!
I don't think Kari would mind me telling those of you who aren't on Facebook that her daughter had a medical emergency involving her eye yesterday. She was home resting comfortably last night, but I know you will want to pray for her, and I know Kari would appreciate prayers that her vision will not be affected. Deanna
-
I'm praying for Kari and her dd...
Have a great week, everyone!
...and THANKS for all the warm wishes celebrating my clean chest XRAY!!
Hugs
Harley
-
Kari, praying for dd, I work with kids that have problems with vision.
Harley YEAH, cannot cheer enough for that !!!
Cold here in Las Vegas today, so weird. Maybe ready for summer, or not, hmmm....

Kari, thinking of you and DD today.
Walked 3 miles yesterday with DH. Lots to talk about on the walk because DS had just called to let us know he was engaged. We're so excited. My future daughter in law is just a beautiful person (inside and out). They're planning a long engagement, so plenty of time to savor and enjoy. Told DH my first though when they said they planned a long engagement was, that makes sense with their schooling and starting new careers, and my second was, hope I'm around still for the wedding. Then had to throw that second thought out (well, more like buried it deep down). Do you ever get to the point some of those thoughts quit popping out? Luckily DH didn't try to poo poo my fears. He asked me what seriously are the chances of that. So I was able to talk it through and realize chances are good even with a bad recurrence that I'll still be here so I was able to put it away. So, I'm back to being really excited
-
Hi girls! Checking in finally. Deanna thanks for posting.
Harley, so relieved about your xray and Spring, happy no problems with this Zometa infusion. YAY
So my DD had a scare while working Friday night, she thought her retina was detaching (she's had pars planitis & uveitis since she was 12 yrs and there was a rare chance of her retina detaching). So to the E.R. Sat morning, they sent her to retina dr., he called for an O.R. room stat and needed to perform surgery right away. They were concerned due to baby. So dr. called for an OB to check her. She performed a vaginal ultra sound, saw the baby's heart beat! 6 weeks as of that day. They were going back and forth between anesthesiologists and drs about going under general anesthesia for 2.5 hours. But they had to take the risk. Surgery went well, although will take 4 to 6 wks for gas bubble to go away. She has to be face down for the time being and after a week, can sometimes be on right side or face down only til gas bubble is gone. She was told to keep her OB appt tomorrow and will have to lie on her back briefly to get ultra sound, but it has to be quick! yikes She's off work for 2 months now. I will be bringing her to my house once her DH leaves for work (he also lives out of town during the week for work like my DH). I think he's calling in to get tonight off, so maybe tomorrow night I'll bring her home with me.
kmmd, so excited about your DS and your soon to be DIL!! I too get those wicked thoughts, I do that now with the new baby, then I have to take a deep breath. I guess it will always be this way?I see my onc Thursday and I always start to get anxious the week before. sigh
Here's to being excited and thinking positively!!
-
Hi Kari ~ Keeping best wishes for your DD's full recovery! So thankful she has you close by.
Oh, Harley ~ I am sooooo happy for the clear chest xray! YAY!
Hugs to kmmd & the return of positive thoughts - I have not found that they stay away for too long, yet, with me. Esp, when I get around my grandbabies, which I will be for this upcoming holiday. But, I am getting better at it.
Hi Springie & Deanna! Hi Diane, I also hate wearing heels.
{{hugs}} to all.
-
Kari, that is scary. That whole face down thing sounds so not fun. I know its worth it to keep your vision, but, yikes, what a pain while you're doing it.
Hi everyone. My day off from a work out today I think. I have some vacation this week so very excited. Hope everyone is having a great day and a great work out
-
kmmd ~ How exciting about your DS, and so nice to hear (or I guess read) what you said about your future DIL. You obviously raised him right! Congratulations to the entire family!
Valjean, enjoy those darling grandbabies this coming weekend. Are you going there, or are they coming to your house?
I'm with you, Diane, on the heels. I rarely wear them anymore, although I did buy some higher wedges for the summer, which was kind of a nice change and a treat after literally months of feeling not quite steady enough on my feet to wear anything except flats and running shoes.
Oh, Kari, what a scary scenario with your DD. Continued prayers for her and her baby. How are you going to get her safely to your house while keeping her lying face down? Knowing the two of you, you'll probably get into a situation that will have you both laughing out loud -- if not now, at least when this is all over.
I walked 5.2 miles this a.m. and hope to go to the club for some bicycling and weights with DH this evening.
Hi to all ~ Deanna
-
Kari
I'm praying for your dd and her baby.
harley
-
Oh Kari! the bubble thing! I've heard or that. I hope her neck and back aren't too bad! What an ordeal. Glad baby is okay.
Diane, agreed! I don't do well in heels either!! The feet scream, "What are you kidding me?" Then, they repay my kindness by giving me feet and leg craps all night long!
Hey Valjean!
Deanna, you are still the standard "miles to meet" !!!
KM - Congrats! So glad you like her! I have thoughts like that too. I had them again this weekend, and decided not to mention to DH. I hope it's just a phase that passes. I think it's normal after all we've been through, don't you? (but annoying, I agree!)
I walked 2 miles Sunday and today (Sunday at the Gym on treadmill b/c it was raining so much). Also pumped iron again to deal with the lymphedema. The good thing about weight training is that your muscles pop out and give you all this positive feedback, so you want to keep doing it. I am going to try and go 3x this week. I am often in the area of the gym with all these young buff men - I am sure they are wondering what a middle aged woman is doing there, and I could care LESS!! There is something freeing about being middle aged. You don't give a crap about what young men think anymore!
ha!!!
