Sorry Renee, I'm so glad you have perky breasts. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Even more skin seems to have come off over night. At least it doesn't hurt but it's so awful!!!
-
Sweaty - I am so agreeing with you and would like to yell and scream at the world. I told Todd the TEch yesterday that the novelty of this whole thing has worn off. I have 4 more to go, my boob is just plain gross and hurts. I mildly complained to a co worker about how much my boob hurt. She said, " oh I thought that was all over and you were fine. I didn't realize you had to do treatment." It was an innocent statement by her, but I was ready to explode. I amy look good, but I don't feel good, and I don't want to go to the rads place any more, ever, forever and ever. I'm tired of doctors and lotions and creams and advice. I've had it with gowns and buzzing noises and appointments andbeing at the beck and call of schedules. I need a vacation, Calgon, take me away!!!!

suepen - I hope things get better for you soon. I'm glad it's not painful for you. I hope we are all done with this soon. BC really is the gift that keeps on giving. Once we are done, my prayer is that NONE of us has to go through all of this again.

Renee - Perky breasts??!!! Jealous.
Suepen - They told me that the reason I'm getting the SEs where I am is because a) most of the rads go into fat, but that area doesn't really have any fat - it's just skin; and b) since it's the cleavage area it's gotten a lot more sun damage over the years and is now more sensitive. So I still think while it would have been different, you probably wouldn't have completely escaped w/o any SEs. But we'll never know.
As far as the cost goes, yes I'm going to a major cancer center in NYC so it's probably more expensive than a small place in a little town - but the hospital has a contract with a national insurance company, I'm not sure how much the amount they're willing to reimburse varies across the country. I guess what I'm saying is that yes, it might be more expensive b/c I'm in NYC, but I bet anywhere in the US is ridiculously expensive and not even remotely close to what you pay in Australia. It's just crazy. I have no idea why it's the way it is. (The hospital asks for almost $4,600/day and they actually get a little more than $4,000/day. That's just for the rads. There's an extra $100+ if I see the rad onc that day, fir which the ins co only pays about $20 less than the hospital asks.)
If I didn't have insurance, I'd be personally liable for all of it, and not at the discounted rate. Lovely.
Katie - Vacation. Exactly. A friend of mine invited me to her 'country house' next weekend, after I finish rads. I'm so going.
NO RADS TODAY!
-
sweatyspice.... sounds like a lot of anger you need to release. Put on one of your great CD's, sing loud, dance and drink a nice glass of wine .... it might help, I know it helps me! Only 2 more for you....you can do it, you can do it, you can, you can!
-
SweatySpice: What a rip off. My lot don't charge extra when I see the doctor every week. Although she's not much use anyway. She's a nice lady but they don't seem to do anything. So far the rads have cost me about $1100. I knew that going in to it. I could have had it done for free at a public hospital but decided I like private treatment better.
I'm scared to look at the boob this morning. The dressing came off during the night. You can't use tape so just have to hope it stays there.
I'm worried it will get infected as I don't know if my blood counts have recovered from the chemo. I'll just do what they said and get the nurse to check it tomorrow. For the first time I think I'll go out there braless tomorrow and get her to dress it for me before I leave. She did say not to apply the gel before the treatment so I won't. I'll take my supplies seeing they were so mean and didn't give me the tube of gel she opened to dress it on Friday. I'm going to make her dress it everyday - what the heck - only 5 to go!!!!
Sue
-
Suepen - Ouch! Sounds painful! Good idea to have the nurse dress it daily! How far in your rads were you when you started have problems? I have 18 down 13 to go and so far doing well...just tenderness. Not having rads during the weekend does make a difference!
-
CinCan: This happened with only 7 to go. Thankfully it's boosts this week and I'll be finished. More skin had come off when I looked yesterday - it's totally gross. It doesn't hurt but I've been crying a lot becasue I am so upset this happened when I was doing so well. I think it was unavoidable owing to the big boobs.
-
Well girls - number one boost done. Rather a different experience from the other zaps with an attachment right down close to the boob. I just kept my eyes shut. Got the nurse to dress the nasty area which has grown considerably over the weekend. Seems like she does want to check it every day. My back is feeling a lot better which is something.
I told the radiographers I don't like them anymore
Hey SweatySpice - Hippy Hippy Shake was playing when they did the zap - not that I felt like dancing.

hello to all happy zappers from Bangkok! (hello of course to less happy zappers too
We are fine, safe and sound and away from the trouble, but obviously highly concerned by what is going on.
Selfishly I am really worried that if things get any worse then my final 6 rads will be delayed, and I am sooooo ner the end and getting back to see my family. I have Sunday and MOnday off so will see what happens tomorrow..........
Love and hugs to you all

Hello.
I've been a lazy poster, because I've been having a case of bad-attitude-itis. I'm not having too difficult of a time, so I shouldn't be such a grouch.
I'm done with 19 of 30. The cortisone has really helped the rash. I am starting to turn various shades of pink and red.
Thank you for the bra-lite and sunscreen recommendations.
I hope that everyone heals quickly.

I AM DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just finished my last treatment. Came home, peeled off the stickies, took a long hot shower and slathered cream all over my breast. I am not going to exhale quite yet, but so far my only SE has been the little itchy bumps. I didn't even get pink. (I think it's the combination of small breasts and a certain kind of skin.) Anyway, I feel both elated and "now what?" .
-
SuePen, it's not really your radiographers' fault that your skin is taking a hammering. They are trying to do their bit to make sure your cancer doesn't come back. Although yes i would be glad never to see them again apart from socially....
dsj well done, it's a good feeling isn't it!
-
I am the one they took to the ER for an evaluation after I asked for continuation of my rads after I needed pain meds. Now I am having a meltdown because I did not go to a more medically sophisticated area to seek treatment. I have had a lot of pain with my radiation and all I hear here is that rads does not cause pain.
I am also concerned that the radiation in the new clinic is covering more area. It is several inches higher on my chest and to the back of my arm pit. I suffer a lot of skin pain. I am concerned about the end effect-skin cancer. I have had a lot of sun burns on the chest wall.
Has anyone else had this experience?
-
One more.
Today's CD: Beach Boys Greatest Hits, so I could hop on the table to "Fun, Fun, Fun." It just seemed so appropriate.
CONGRATS dsj!!!!
Jarlwin - I haven't really had any pain aside from occasional and mysterious shooting pains in my breast, but they're not that frequent and not THAT horrible that I'd need painkillers. I wish I had something better to say, but I really have no idea what's happening to you or why or how to help.
10:30pm and just getting home. Exhausted and going to sleep. Nite nite.
-
Hymil, I know it's not their fault - I did put a smiley at the end of that sentence
I actually really really like them - they have been SO nice.
Sweaty - Only 1 to go hoorayyy!! I've got 3 to go
dsj: Congratulations !!!!!
Sue

2 to go...
-
I wonder how I can add that I am from Elmira, NY. Does anyone know?
I just finished treatment 17 and I am more then half way. 16 to go! I am on my second clinic. I have had my mental health questioned because of the level of pain I have experienced. I now use Biafine three times day on my skin. I also take 20mg of oxycodone ER every 12 hours and 10 mg of hydrocodone as needed for break through pain. I can now sleep through the night instead of the four hours I was sleeping before I woke up in pain. My skin is red.
No one deserves to go through what I have been through. There certainly is a reason. Nothing is for naught. I really believe that. God bless you all!
-
jarlwin: Hang in there it will be all over before you know it.
Only 2 to go for me too!!!!!!!
-
Only 2 to go for you and Katie Mom. That is wonderful! You wll be done on the 20th?
Spring a Champagne cork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ladies, put a fork in me beacause I AM DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DONE, DONE, DONE, DONE, DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today's CD: Cracker - Kerosene Hat
I AM DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please God, NEVER AGAIN!
Jarlwin - if your skin is really red and you still have 16 more to go, please talk to someone at your center. That does seem like an awfully strong reaction.
I'm off to put disgusting goo on myself and sleep WITHOUT SETTING THE ALARM FOR 5AM!!!!!!!
-
SweatySpice: Congratulations!!!!! Keep up the creams for a couple of weeks but enjoy not having to go there everyday!!!
Sue
-
only 4 more for me - but not sure if they can all go ahead due to the situation here in Bangkok. Curfew tonight, but hopefully not daytime. Folks very nervous though. I feel like I am the Breast Cancer Correspondent here in Bangkok
(details in my blog)
Sending healing wishes to all burning and tender breasts

Suepen, Feistybluegecko, KatieMom and everyone else: YOU CAN GET THROUGH THIS!!
I fell asleep after a very large glass of tequila and a ridiculous amount of celebratory food - all the lights and TV on, passed out before I slathered the goo...BAD BAD BAD. And what's worse, I woke up at 5:30 am out of habit and couldn't fall back asleep. Showered and about to slather myself now. Finally.
Feistyblue, wtf is going on in Thailand, anyway??? I was just watching the morning TV news, and as per usual in American TV news covering an international subject, only got about 90 seconds of info. Maybe I should take a look at your blog....
-
CONGRATULATIONS Sweatyspice and to all who have finished and to all who will be finished within these next few days! Celebrate, Celebrate, Celebrate..... I am doing a happy dance for you all!!!!
I still have 5 more rads and 6 boosts to go. My tech told me to "air out" my radiated breast by laying topless with my arm over my head in front of a fan. So I have taken to sleeping topless with my ceiling fan on. My Onc to a look at my breast yesterday and said my skin was holding up really well. It's a little red and tender... but that's about it. I took get shooting pains every so often, but they go away and are tolerable.
-
Happy, happy thoughts for Sweatyspice for being done and for Katie and Sue who are almost done. Fingers and toes crossed for everyone still in the middle. It does end, and you will get through it!
-
Feistybluegecko,
Both of your blogs are amazing!! Thank you for posting the link.
-
only 1 left!!!!!
-
CinCan: Hi! I'm Jarlwin and I just noticed that you are in front of me. I have 15 days to go. 10 to the whole breast and 5 boosts. For all my whining and complaining, I am pleased for being where I am now. I will be watching you finish before me.
These problems are temporary. Human kindness is getting better. The Dali Lama reported on the "TODAY SHOW' just now. These are good words for me as I go through my days.
