I have thought about stopping it, but if it is actually helping, I don't think I could function with the level of pain I might have without it.

I definitely find that daily exercising and long brisk walks helpful. Sometimes it take a great deal of self-persuassion to get moving...but it is worth it!" That was my post on this topic back in August.  I was a little surprised to see it because now I am relatively pain free. Still get achy, but pain free.  I started taking glucomsamine, chondrotin AND MSM.  I think it is the MSM that made the difference for me.

The glucosamine definitely helped my knee pain but I found that exercise was more helpful than glucosamine was. For hand and finger joint pain, turmeric root supplement was the only thing that stopped the pain.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of last year.  I had 2 operations and started taking Arimidex in January 2010.  In the last month I have been experiencing joint pains in my thumbs and this week pain in my left hip.  I have tried tolerating it but it is becoming each day harder.  Since I live in China I have decided to try Chinese medicine.  It taste horrible but I am willing to try it anyway.  I have also started taking glucosamine.  I have really enjoyed reading all the recommendations on this page.

I tried to stop using so many supplements and cut back on glucosamine and tumeric and to my disappointment found they were doing their job. I am back on a daily dose of each. Knee pain, shoulder pain better and will probably be gone in a month or so. I was feeling so pain free, I forgot why I was. :)

Hello gpnorris,  I saw your question posted in 2007 when you asked has anyone used arimidex for five years and got off of it and the pain went away and did not become permanent damage to joints, etc.  Would you be so kind to share with me what any of the women back then responded to you.  The joint pain just began after 2 years on arimidex and now after 3 years it has been getting worse.   Thank you, Sue anne.  My email is sueanneis@yahoo.com

How much glucosamine is everyone taking? One or two pills a day?

I'm on Femara for1 1/2 years and it's starting to show it's ugly head.

Little by little it gets worse. I'm also finding I'm getting muscle aches in my back.

I take a pill with my lunch and one with dinner. I have been on Arimidex almost 3 years now.

My pain doc says glucosamine is useless.  Vitamin D3, in large enough doses does seem to have value.  Since we are on meds that can cause osteoporosis we should be getting D levels checked anyway.

The formula for raising your level to normal - now 50 to 90, I understand, is: for every ng you are low, you need 100 units of D3 beyond what you are already taking in calcium, vitamin, etc.  So for my level of 18, I needed 4000 units a day.  I take 2000 units in the morning.  Then if I don't get any sun, I take another 2000 units in the evening.

Alcie, most of us have found that the doctors don't know much about supplements.  That is one of the things I love about BCO.  People learn through trial and let us know what helped them. Of course different people will have different outcomes.

I agree that vitamin D is very important for us but I haven't heard any references about it helping with pain.  Do you find it helpful for pain?

My mom uses Procosa from a company called USANA. It is vegetarian glucosamine, contains tumeric extract, a powerful anti inflamatory antioxidant, Meriva, bioavailable curcumin complex shown to deliver noticeable improvements in joint comfort. It helped her a lot with pain and it is very minimal since she started taking Essentials and Procosa

Thanks Nehj76 for chiming in. Did your mom have pain due to treatments?

I realize this thread is over 5 years old but here is an article about vitamin D for joint pain.
