My signature has all my cancer information.

I am currently taking Femara and also quite possibly have fatty liver disease. I am a type 2 diabetic with COPD and am 100 lbs overweight.  My first 45 or so pounds were gained after a total hysterectomy in 1999 and the last of my weight was gained after quitting smoking in 2006.  I dont really eat a ton of food (but I do obviously eat too much), but I believe the majority of my troubles come from getting short of breath during exercise so I lose my air before my activity level gets up enough to do me any good weight wise.

They say my BC was in part caused by rapid weight GAIN...so does rapid weight LOSS also cause problems?

My oncologist "doesnt believe in weight loss surgeries" so I dont really have his blessings but my GP has no problems with it for me.  Have any other BC patients had this done?  Any nurses out there who know about BC and weight loss surgery?  How did this affect your post cancer treatment?  I understand that drains are involved with this kind of surgery too, is that true?

Bariatric surgery nurse here. I can recall caring for one breast and one colon cancer survivor recently and they didn't mention it affecting their post cancer treatment at all. Fat does play a role in estrogen production so having less of it is a good thing. They're discovering these surgeries cure diabetes, even before the patient has lost much weight, though they're not sure why. Most patients have the surgery done laparoscopically with 6 or 7 tiny incisions and no drains. Depending on the surgery type, they're home the same day or the following morning. There's lots of info on the web about this. Good luck.
