    Hi Lisamarie,

The short answer is yes.  If you do a search (upper right corner) for cisplatin, you'll find a lot of people here have been on it.  Did you have specific questions about it?

Lisam..... I've been on a few cycles of cisplatin/gemcitabine (Gemzar)...for recurrence --after 12 years on my masectomy site...near/around collar bone

    it's oKAY---next day...some flushing/fatigue....really not extreme....some appetite loss/ very minor nausea..but really not..for a couple of days only

I get it Monday...next Monday...then a week off and ** feel fine.!!.....with clinic appt. that week..

    What is your routine ??

I am deciding between extreme surgery --involving collar bone..or continued chemo...consulting, etc.

At my recurrence I took Docetaxol in 2008......approx. 9 months okay.....then Oral capecitabine (Xeloda)..but then took 3/4 dose due to common extreme side effects....during which the swelling got worse!!  Now this regime ...people say I look well....But.....

    Where do you live?

Does anyone have similar scenario ??

    JANICE...Vancouver,B.C. Canada

    Hello,

I am on cisplatin and gemcitabine too.  I am doing ok, same kind of side effects as you described, only exception is ringing in the ears.  Also some hair loss, but not as much as I had with my chemo last year.  I am also taking neupogen shots for 7 days starting day 5 of my cycle, which is really helping to prevent me from having infection.   I have a recurrence in my chest wall after having a bilateral mastectomy and reconstrucion.  Go figure, go radical, and guess what, it comes back!!

Anyway, I can beat this again, and this is what my oncologist is thinking is best.  I too am trying to shrink a tumour near my collar bone, but below it.  I too am not sure of how things will go in future, what will be next. I know I need surgery at some point and radiation too. The cancer is in my muscle, so it is causing all kinds of problems, and I still have expanders in with a metal component so they cannot do an MRI.

Have you lost your hair with this chemo??  I hate how long it is taking to come out, either all or none would be preferred!  I just had my second cycle yesterday so I still have hair at day 22, last time it fell out at day 14 of my first cycle.

    Take Care.

    Kristi :)

    Hi Lisamarie,

I am in Canada, and I am guessing that you are in the United States?  I know our medications are different.  I have been given a great drug for nausea, I think the medical name for it is aprepitant.  I take one 125mg pill an hour before my cisplatin chemo, then 1 80mg pill each morning, the following two days after chemo.  I am not sure if this drug is available to you, but it has been quite good for me.

I hope you feel better soon.

    Take care.

had cisplatin X 4 with taxotere after 4 AC, the last one I actually got sick while i was getting it, which was a first, I guess I was at my limit...I felt very sick, much worse than AC but the meds helped, never threw up once..,my feet still tingle...don't know which one that caused that hopefully it will not last...still get ringing in my ears too, hate it and hope it goes away, but I think cisplatin contributed to my great response. I usually worked week one, was very sick week two and stayed home and work most of week three.
