So now what happens? How often should I expect to see my surgeon? Should she be checking doing a breast exam at each visit? Just not sure what to expect now that the mastectomy is done.

Mantra- My surgeon saw me a month after my MX.  At that appointment she said she wanted to see me again in six months.  Then after that I think it is every year for 5 years.

My confusion is I hear some say they'll continue to have mammograms, or ultrasounds, or MRI's.  Some are on Tamoxifen.  I know a lot depends on what type of MX you had and what type of cancer you had but I'm just not sure who gets what!

I will see my bs every 6m for 5 years and then once a year for life.  Can't remember what type of screening she will do.  I know it will be a manual exam....  I see her in Oct and I'll ask.

My surgeon says she will examine me every 6 months. she is not planning any kind of scans. I haven't quite decided if that is a good thing or a bad thing. My 1st check will be next month so, hopefully i will get a better idea of what to expect.

My surgeon said I have to see her every six months for a checkup and instead of mammograms, because I have no breast tissue, I will have MRI's every year. I do blood work every six months as well for a previous melanoma that she treated but I don't think she would be doing it otherwise. She also said to do monthly breast checks since there is no way to get every breast tissue cell. It's kind of a load off of my mind that I don't have breast tissue. One less thing to worry about.
