I will ending my radiation in two days.  My doctor wants me to have more CAT and PET scans and when I asked why he said it is to see if they got it all.  Does anyone know what this means?  I thought if I went through all this I wouldn't have anymore cancer.  From what I understand CAT and PET scans are somewhat dangerous themselves.  Does everyone have these test every 3 to 6 months after treatment?

I was wondering the frequency of these also. I finished my rads yesterday and i have an appt. w/ my oncologist in just over a month. I am sure at that point he will schedule the scans...can anyone on here tell us what to expect?  I am just soooo thankful that I am dobe withe rads...I was getting rather burnt!

I actually had both a CT and PET scan done prior to radiation.  They are working on my "radiation therapy plan"  apparently the simulated plan will end up radiating 13% of my lung.  So tomorrow they want me to come in again and do another CT Scan lying face down to see if they can simulate a better program that will radiate less of my lung than that.  They told me today these scans are not dangerous.  I am trying to decide weather or not I want to do radiaton if 13% of my lung gets radiation.  At some point there is a cost vs. benefit relationship.  Does anyone have an informed opinion on this?

It is quite normal to get scanned once treatment is done.  Then in 3 months, 6 months, and less often as time passes.  Better to catch something early than not.  And getting a clear scan is such wonderful news -- gives you peace of mind.
