question about nausea medicine
Hi everyone,
I'm in the middle of my chemo treatment (TCH) and nausea has become worse each time. I tried three/four meds so far, but nothing works too well. I've tried compazine and zofran for the last two rounds, didn't work. The doctor gave me Emend this time, didn't work either.
I still have three chemo to go and am worried about the next few times. The doctor just gave me prescription for medical marijuana, but I wonder whether any of you have suggestions on other drugs. Or if Medical marijuana is the last option, what form should I get?
Thanks a lot!

i'm surprised emend combined with omeprazole or something else hasn't worked. Problem with the marijuana, like any herbal, is getting accurate dosage and efficacy but if you can make it work.....
I would suspect tha tthe supplier of the medical marijuans is the correct person to give you the accurate information about the particular type he has.
good luck

I had problems with nasuea during my AC treatment. I tried the Sancuso patch during my second session. You apply it the day before and use it for a week. It is very expensvie and I opted not to use it again. I also tried putting 1/2 an ativan under my tonge and that helped some without making me drowsy. I was also given ativan just as I was leaving my chemo session. It was suggested maybe I should come in the next day for 2 bags of IV fluids as that can often help with nausea. I also found phenegran to be helpful (I am allergic to compazine). I also used the SeaBands that you wear on your wrists for sea sickness. Good luck.....

I had a rough time with nausea. I only had 4 AC, but the first two were rough as the anti-emetics didn't work, I was given Kytril 1 mg for the third and fourth infusions.
It worked well for the third infusion, I was feeling rocky (but no upchucking) for the fourth and I have a feeling that if that had been a fifth infusion, I would be vomiting again.
Kytril was unbelievably expensive - about $100 a tablet and that was 3 years ago.

Are they loading you up with anti-nausea meds (in the IV) before they start the chemo drip?
Are you on any steriods and how long? I was so lucky, i never had a problem except for once when I just ate like a pig. My chemo regime was to take deximethosone (sp?) for five days after chemo--once in the am and one in the pml. Also, I was to take Omerprazole in the am and pm. My doctor didn't like to "treat" nausea, he liked to "prevent" nausea. Sorry to hear you are dealing with the nausea. Hope you have better luck with the nausea.

Thanks girls.
Hi cowgirl13, my doctor did give me steroid on the day of chemo in IV and I take oral pills the day before and after chemo. They told me to take nausea medicine whenever I even start to think about it, but it just hasn't worked well. I just checked Omerprazole, it says it's for acid reflux. I'm taking something similar. It works on nausea?
Hi knowledgeforpower, I used Ativan at night but haven't tried to 1/2 pill under the tongue. So it doesn't make you feel drowsey?
