Seizure after Treatment ends?
I'm posting from the hospital. I passed out today and that was followed by tingling in my arms and a seizure. I've never had a seizure before, and only passed out two other times in my life.
Cat scan was normal and having MRI tomorrow....

Unfortunately, I have no wise words or experience with this; however, I just wanted to let you know you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I can only imagine your fear - hang in there and keep us posted. We will be rooting for you and that this turns out to be totally uneventful.
Hopefully, someone will come along shortly that may have experienced this situation. God knows I have experienced just about everything else, but not a seizure.
Hugs,
Linda

Heidi - I'm speechless. So sorry to hear about this. Rest assured you in the right place right now to get to the bottom of what has caused this. Thank goodness the Cat scan was normal. I'm sending you good vibes!

Oh crap Heidi..what in the heck???? That is scary but glad to hear your test results are ok..keep in touch...will be thinking of you...Dang!
-
Oh Heidi, ohmygosh omygosh! How very scary! Anything else - have you been feeling okay beforehand? Good sign that the CAT scan was negative for anything - hopefully it was a one-time "blip!"
We're here waiting with you and sending good vibes!!! Hugs to you!

I'd been feeling great and was pretty much back to my normal activities. ER doc said Paxil can sometimes cause a seizure, though I've been on it before for migraines with no problems.
Go figure. I'm trying not to freak.
-
I have been researching since I read your post, and it appears that an out of the ordinary seizure oftentimes is a one time blip. I think he's got something there with the Paxil too. I didn't know you were taking it. Glad to hear you are feeling back to normal.

Linda,
Thanks for the info; it is comforting as my mind wanders...
-
That's crazy heidi, what in the world happened?...I hope your docs give you a legitimate answer and not just send you home and tell you "let us know if it happens again"...your December rads mate, Jewly
-
Sitting here typing to you guys while getting an EEG. Ain't technology great?
-
hhfheidi - Sending you a great big ((((((HUG)))))). Hope everything comes back normal.
-
Good morning Heidi, thinking of you and sending more good thoughts today!!!
-
Still in hospital awaiting MRI results but so far everything looks normal and it was probably just an isolated incident that could happen to anyone. To be extra safe I may go on meds for a short time.
Didn't need the extra aggravation though.
-
Heidi..so glad you are normal..you scared the heck out of us..I hope that the MRI is normal too.....I know that you are feeling good and were excited to get your life back..but take it a little easy ok....your mind may be ready but your body has been through hell...so...well anyway...we were/are worried about you.
Say..OK Mommy.....! -
OK Mommy...
-
Heidi - so glad to hear all is good. I've been thinking about you today. Thanks for giving us an update!

Keep us updated, that was all too scary, make sure you are content with doc's explanation....Best wishes.....Jewly

Woooo, Heidi!!
Definitely an unnerving thing, but awesome news that all the tests are coming back good! Are they still thinking it may be the Paxil? Is there an alternative you could take for the migraines just in case that's it?
Did you have any warning signs at all before the seizure so you would sit down or lie down and not fall? Please be extra careful for a while (as if I have to tell you that - duh.).
Anyway, thanks so much for letting us know how you're doing! Take it easy and hang in there!

Prior to the seizure I had just gotten up and was in the bathroom starting to put on make-up. I felt a little faint, but not hugely so. Woke up on the floor about 10 minutes later. My head was a little sore, but no bump. I called out to my husband who was in the barn and he came right in. While he was sitting on the sofa talking to me I had the seizure and he witnessed it. Scared the shit out of him but he immediately called 911.
I was incoherent for about 90 minutes so they admitted me to the hospital. I am now on seizure meds for awhile, just to be safe. All the tests came back normal so it was probably caused by the bump to my head when I fainted. The real question is why did I faint?
Supposedly lack of sleep can lower your seizure threshold and I did not sleep well the night before, so that may be the answer. Plus, I am a Type A personality who had resumed her life pre-cancer, so may be guilty (OK, *am* guilty) of over-doing it. Also had been out in the sun all day Saturday for Relay for Life.
It's good to be back home!

One *good* thing to come out of this:
Apparently I have "classic" symptoms of cranial neuralgia and there is a relatively simple cure/treatment for it. So, I will "Get er Done" and maybe say Good Riddence to migraines!
Wouldn't that be nice?
-
Like you said, Heidi -take the good from this scary episode and run with it! So glad you are doing well.
Linda
-
Heidi..glad that you are OK.....!
-
Heidi - How are you today? Hope you are feeling better.
-
The meds they have put me on have me a bit out of it. I plan on going off of it... tonight. I don't like meds that affect my mood and mental acuity.
-
Good for you Heidi....I would probably be doing the same thing...we won't tell anyone!
-
Heidi - thanks for checking in! I've been thinking about you! I know what you mean about the meds, but do be careful - will there be someone around to check on you? Is it one of the meds that you're supposed to wean off slowly? Take it easy - hang out with your critters and don't (!) do too much :-D
Are you feeling well other than the drugged feeling? Hope so!
-
I really hate this set-back. Anti-seizure med makes me dizzy and tired but I am also afraid to not take it. There is so much dependent upon my NOT having another seizure (vacation, sailing, driving my horses). I just don't know what to do.
For now I am taking it easy and waiting to talk with the neurologist about all these concerns. It is a toss-up, as it was only one seizure (occurring after I fainted and bumped my head) and many neurologists do not prescribe anti-seizure meds until more than one seizure has occurred.
I feel the seizure was caused by hitting my head, but what caused me to faint so suddenly? Like I said, I really don't know what to do. We head to Maine in a month, for a month, with horses and sailboat.
-
Heidi..go to your vacation..let your DH sail the boat...(and the car)....a vacation will do you good.
Any hey...haven't seen you "sign up" for the calling all tn's thread...we need you there... -
Can a Cat scan and MRI definitively determine the presence of brain mets? I fainted last Sunday and that was followed by a seizure. All the tests came back negative, but the neurologist wasn't willing to say the seizure was caused by the bump to my head when I fainted. For now he wants me on Keppra. I have never had a seizure before and have been told that a large percentage of adults have at least one unexplained seizure in their life. It's the recent TNBC diagnosis that makes it so scary/ominous.
