diagnosed with meningioma worried about possible metastasis

Recently, while in the hospital for fainting, I was diagosed with a small meningioma after an MRI.  I have been advised with "watchful waiting"--to see if the meningioma grows.  However, I am worried that it may instead be a metastasis of my breast cancer.  The only way to really know for sure, I am told by the neurosurgeon (who seems fairly confident that it is a miningioma) is to take the tumor out for analysis.  Has anyone else had this situation?  I am trying not to be worried, but I also don't want to delay treatment for a possible metastasis.

    I don't have a lot of information, however there was a recent new article about the number of false positives found through lung x-rays because of numerous benign abnormalities.  Can't give a lot of comfort, but that does flag to me less reason to be overly concerned.

    Thank you for your thoughts--I have been researching the topic a lot, and I do see that benign meningiomas are associated with breast cancer in some degree.  I did find a few medical papers that discussed a few metastases that were sort of masquerading as meningiomas, but that seems to be very, very rare.

    Hi,.I just got back from seeing my neurosurgeon today. I was complaining of non stop headaches,.had an MRI,.my onc and radiologist seems to think it was a pituitary adenome,.well,.the neurologist said,.no,.I don't think it's on the pituitary gland,.ugh,.it's much higher. He mentioned it could be what you were diagnosed with,.or it could be a number of things,.needless to say,.he's ordered a CT scan of chest,.abdomen,.pelvis because he said,.it could also be mestasis. This Doc was also an ASS with his bedside manner by the way,.anyway,.looks like I'm heading for a biopsy soon and I am scared sh*tless! :(

    It is pretty scary--especially with so many possibilities.  My neurologist was fine, but my primary oncologist seemed very unconcerned--he ordered no testing from his end at all, and I had to bring up the brain tumor at my appointment--even though he had the papers and scans.  I wasn't expecting him to be able to say whether it was metastasis or meningioma, but I did expect that he would suggest a game plan to rule out metasasis.  Instead, I was sent off on my own to pursue this.  Good luck with the biopsy--I hope you will be able to have an answer soon--waiting is very hard.

    Hi - I was diagnosed with IDC Triple Neg Stage 1 in 2005.  In 2008 I had some dizziness and had an MRI done.  I was diagnosed with a small convexity meningnioma.  Was told that most people aren't even diagnosed unless something else happens.  That since it is small, I just need an MRI every year to make sure that it is stable.

    No metastasis ever even brought up.

    Just wanted to chime in here - but about 15 years ago I had a benign meningioma.  I never realized that there was a connection to breast cancer!  My doctors are aware of my history but never mentioned it.

    I had a brain MRI last Feb and something showed up, I didn't have any symptoms of anything.  My onc treated it as if it were a met since there was no real way to find out without major risky brain surgery (because of location too).  I was told it also could have been a meningioma, but we treated it as a met.  I have been NED in the head since cyberknife.

    I too, have currently had a lesion on the meninges show on my MRI. I had a brain mri last year that was clear. Being that it grew in  short time, it is more likely to be cancerous, although I am trying to be positive. If you have had a previous clear MRI,I would push for a second opinion. MEningiomas take a long time to grow from my understanding. Best of luck to you!

    i had one.. my onc was terrified and ordered immediate surgery.. even scheduled me with a surgeon to book him before he left town..

    turned out THANKFULLY to be one of those things.. thebenign meningiomas that many many people have.

    hope your is.. my surgeon said they were very common

    I had an atypical menigoma ( which means it is not benign but not maligant but more likely to return. Unfortunatelymy  emrgency ct scan last wek showed somenthing new so am waiting to see Neurosurgon. a really good site to check out is menigioma mommas much like here lot of support and knowledg.

    I have recently been diagnosed with a meningioma. For the past 12 months, I've been going through every breast test. 2 and 3 on birads, spiculation spots. On the every 3 month mammo train. Now with this brain thing happening... I'm wondering if this is the last piece to the IBC puzzle.
