Creative Cottage: Depression Keep Out!

Iris' from my garden. The wind is so bad today, it knocked a bunch of them over.
The yellow and white ones are from my dad's garden in San Diego. He died last year, so I am very grateful to have these bloom in my yard.
Bren

ohhh, those Iris are so wonderful. None of mine are blooming yet. Love the picture.
-
Oh I love irises! I love the color combination you have in the vase. Isn't it a shame when the wind knocks them over?
I had 6 kinds of marbled bearded iris in my front yard. Unfortunately, 7 years ago I moved to TX for a year, and I rented out the house. When I came back, the renter had MOWED my beautiful landscape. Only one of the irises survived. Here how they are this spring:
-
Beautiful!!!!
-
Day .. gorgeous. I only have 3 kinds of iris. This fall, I'm going to plant more. This is the first year they have really bloomed. It's a shame your renters mowed them down. I just don't understand that ... but I guess not everyone is gardener.
Hugs all,
Bren
PS .. Looking forward to pics of Bubbies yard and garden!
-
sorry, lousy at pictures, but I can proudly say I just made the best 1:12 miniature onions I've ever attempted. For the first time they even have the slight lines. Looking through the magnifying glass, I still looks like the real thing. Yipppeeeee.
In the past I've always had something be just a little off, but finally I have gotten it perfectly. I know it seems trivial, but it is nice to have something come out juuuuuuust right.
Thany you bubbies for starting this thread. You're right. pleasant pictures, crafts and endeavors are good for the soul.
I hope you are all doing well. hugs.

Keep in mind ladies that you can simply copy and paste a photo from FaceBook. You don't have to set up a link.
Just Right click on the photo in FB and select copy, place your cursor in your "post a reply" and right click again and select paste.
If anyone needs to, you can email me photos and I'll Post them here for you.
-
Flash, I'd love to see your onions! That sounds kind of funny, doesn't it? No one has ever said that to me...
Beautiful irises, Bren and Day! I've never seen marbled irises before. Wow!
I've got a painting and a drawing to post but I have to take pics first. Usually whenever I finish something it goes in the flat file and there it stays. I'm going to quit doing that, regardless if they turn out good or bad. Life is too short for that, right?
-
Oh yes, Flash, pics please? We all looooove photos of crafty things.
Sparrow, here's a good place to buy them, they have an awesome collection:

I finished another one of my pixies, and she's on ebay:

Day .. your little pixie is so cute .. what wonderful attention to detail!
I made a necklace for my mom for mother's day. She called to thank me and said, "I think you could make something like this ... it's beautiful, where did you get it?" I got a kick out of that. Wish I had taken a pic of it.
I made my second necklace for myself. I'll take a pic. I wish I knew how to hang the beads on little extensions (the one's that look like skinny long nails). I couldn't figure out how to wrap the wire at the top where it connects. I'll try to get a pic and post it.
I've spent most my free time painting cleaning and decorating the guest room/office. It's so pretty now, and a little different from before. I abandonded the chabby chic and went with painted clean white furniture. Painting the trim is a hassle, as I have crown molding and corniche's in every room.
Hugs to everyone ... also, if anyone wants help with posting pic's you can email me too (PM me) and I'll post them for you.
love,
Bren
PS .. Bubbies .. thinking of you and hoping you're doing okay. Check in when you can.
-
Thank you!
For the dangling beds - I normally use head pins (the pieces of wire that have like a pinhead at the end) and to connect I make a hoop. Some of the necklaces I posted have that type ofdangling beads.
Here, I found a photo for you: you can see exactly how you do the hoop at the end. Depending how long you want the dangling, and how many beads are on the head pin, you might have to cut after making the hoop like in this photo (I usually cut before, I kno the size of my round pliers already). Second photo is with the type of pliers I use for this (you probably know already). Please post a photo of your necklace when yu finish it. The thing with your Mom is hilarious.

This is my hobby...filet crochet. This is a baby blanket I made for a friend.
-
That is amazing!
-
Ok I was in a real hurry to finish at least one of the pixies that I'm working on, considering that tomorrow I have my first Chemo treatment and I have no idea how I'll feel.
Here she is, her name is Gabrielle
-
Veggy.....it's beautiful. I'm sure it'll be a treasured heirloom. I'd love to see more.
Day....best wishes tomorrow. The anticipation is worse than the treatment.
How did you make the wings? I just found an on-line art supply store that sells something similar. They're unbelievable.
-
BooBee - wire, iridiscent cellophane, gallery glass and polyester glitter (the one that changes colors and becomes very iridiscent when heated).
-
Thanks. I'll try to get more on later. DH and I had a hard time posting that picture. I love the sculptig someof you do. It's amazing.
-
Veggy .. gorgeous handwork! The attention to detail is wonderful!
-
Good morning ladies! I have been absent this week and I'm sorry. I have had a big job clearing a house and cleaning it to go on the market. I'm tired to say the least.
I have a lot to comment on but I want to start with Kayleigh: Your poems are so wonderful. I could really relate to the crocus although I don't feel like I've bloomed much.
BooBee...I love your cakes! They are just so fun and made me smile.
I needed that today.
Off to work again and I will catch up later.
Much love and many hugs,
Bubbies

Day, I'll be sending good thoughts for your first chemo! xoxoxo Beautiful pixie! The wings are so incredible. I wish we could all get together and play!
Haha, Bren, loved the necklace story!
That's quite a compliment!
There are some good jewelry making tutorials on this page http://www.fusionbeads.com/beadingfaq/bead_techniques.php The wire working techniques section has a wrapped bead loop tutorial. If you don't have head pins you can make spiral ones out of regular wire. There's a tutorial for making those too. Sometimes I'll make just a single tiny loop instead of a spiral under the bead. It looks vintage that way.
Veggy, that is a gorgeous blanket! Wow!!!
Nice to see you, Bubbies! I hope you can take it easy for awhile!
OK, I'm off to take pics. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!
-
Sparrow .. thanks for the tutorial! I get it now. Like must of us right brain folks, I learn better by seeing than reading!. I need some new needle-nosed pliers. Mine are old .. and of course I've used them to fix the fence and cut fence wire too! ha!
Good luck on your pics. I know you'll be fantastic!
-
Oh man, I lost the whole reply that I was posting! So I'm going to be brief with re-doing it.
Day, I hope that things went well with chemo...as much as they can. Please check in when you feel up to it. I love your pixies...the first one reminds me of a Hawaiian Menehune!
Veggie, your crochet is gorgeous! I know how long that takes to do...I used to do some filet crochet but my wrists don't like me to do it anymore.
The iris photos were beautiful. I have a lot of iris but they're kind of run of the mill purple ones. I have a few white bearded iris. I have about 10 lilac bushes that are almost done blooming:
And some sweet peas that grow wild:
and these flowers...I don't know what they are but they turn orange in the summer:
and a few wildflowers that haven't been mown yet:
There are still lots of wildflowers, actually, but the weeds are getting so high that they're going to get knocked down with the weed whacker soon.
I'm glad to be done with my job...I'm proud of how the house came out sparkling! And I have a few extra bucks in my pocket. I hurt from head to toe now, though. So I'm taking a break today from work and can't be outside too much because hubby will be moving again. I will attempt to finish the kitty today.
Oh, also on the jewelry, there are some free video tutorials at www.beaducation.com
Bren, show us pics of your jewelry....do you have a before and after of the office/guest room?
Hugs to all of you.

The lilacs are gorgeous .. I have two, but they've already bloomed and lost their flowers.
I'm going to attempt a tutorial on posting pictures.
First: Sign up at Photobucket.com
Second: Follow the instructions from Photobucket on how to download a picture. Once you download the picture from your picture files, I would then edit the size.
THird: You can edit the size of the pic on photobucket. When you download your picture, it creates an album where all your pics are stored. On top of the pic you downloaded, it will say edit. Click on that and it will take you to a new window. At the top of the new window click on size. Then adjust the pic to somewhere under 500 pixels. Anything bigger than that will be too big on BCO. Once you adjust the size, click on replace original picture. This doesn't affect your pictures in your picture file ... only the pics saved on photobucket.
Four: Once the pic is resized and saved on photobucket, click the button that says return to album. Find your picture and underneath it you have 4 choices to click on. Right click the second one that says HTTP file. Then left click on copy.
Then come back to BCO and put your cursor in the msg box. Then just above the msg box there is a pic of a tree. Click on the tree.
Five: Where it says HTTP photo, right click, then left click paste.
Your picture should post in the msg box. Sometimes I have to paste it twice in the tree before it will paste onto BCO.
I hope this helps.

Bubbies, I love lilacs! For some reason I wasn't able to grow any here in Oklahoma. I had issues growing lilac, lavender and lovage. Everything else goes just wonderful, I even have grapevine, but not those three.
Bren, you can adjust the photo size in the message itself, if you click on it after it was inserted then go to the corner, click and drag. Sometimes it might take two tries if the photo is too big, just click right arrow, then click again on the photo, go to the corner, click and drag.
Well I am in the 2nd day from the first treatment. I had a nasty reactiont to Taxotere at first, hot chest, tight throat, couldn't breathe, bpand heart rate shot up, but they gave me Benadryl and steroids, waiting half an hour, and started again with a slow drip, and I had no problems afterwards. I feel pretty good now, no nausea, no more lightheaded or fatigued than I usually am. I already started working on more tuff, I made some eyes for future dolls, restarted a sculpture I wanted to make in a while now,Cernunnos, the horned god of the Celts (I want him to be a heart-breaker), I already made the wire armature and put on the armature clay. I'm waiting for my boyfriend to wake up and help me with mixing the clay for it (I need to mix three kinds of clay to obtain the proper texture and color). It's a beautiful and sunny day, even if it's a little on the chill side - about 65F right now, supposed to get up to 68F today.
I hope everybody is doing alright,
Hugs all

I don't know why I have two prints and I don't know why they are so large. I did resize them. But at least you can see the detail. Her intitials and birthday are on the bonnet ties.
-
Betty -- the dress is absolutely stunning. And the baby so adorable. There are no words that can describe adequately how absolutely beautiful it is.
I sometimes get 2 pics too -- I just edit and delete the duplicate when it happens to me. Don't know why though...
-
I have three different colors of lilacs... double whites, light purple and a dark purple. They are all in full bloom right now.
I have to figure out again how to get a picture on here again. It took me a while the last time.
-
Betty, that dress and bonnet are beyond words. A real masterpiece! It will be something that will stay in your family from generation to generation. You are really talented!
Day, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. I have always had problems with intravenous things like blood and the iron infusions I was getting. Did the benadryl and steroids thing, too, every time. Steroids kept me up for 2 days but they were creative days.
I wish I could borrow some of your creative energy!
Hugs,
Lisa

They're beautiful Bubbies. I always type a post in a word processing program first and paste it here. I've lost too many pearls of wisdom to the black hole of text. It's also an easier way to keep track of everyone.
Day...I had the same reaction to the Taxotere. How many cycles are they giving you?
Betty...Do you ever sell them? If you don't, do you have a pattern you use? It's incredible. Makes me want to dust off my sewing machine.
