Pain in right side toward back-Liver?

Options

I have a pain that is in the right side, towards the back, low but within my rib cage.  Could this be related to my liver or something going on there?  Have any of you had such a pain?

Hi MsBliss -- I saw your post on the other thread re. a woman asking about liver mets.  It sounds like the liver area.  My mets there felt like a tight belt or twinges (like ovulation twinges).  It would happen when I was sitting or lying in a certain position.  Not really painful but uncomfortable.  Not constant, just occasional.

Have you had it for long?  If it is worrying you please contact your PCP or oncologist and get it checked out.  It could very well be something simple such as a sore muscle or rib but it's always good to check it to put your mind at ease.  Let us know how it goes OK?  Hugs,

    Elizabeth

Edit:  My twinges are at the front, slightly below or at the level of my ribcage, not at the back.

Hi Konakat, many thanks for your response.

Well, I've the first twinges started on April 28th.  It lasted a day or two and stopped.  I had been doing some intense exercises, so I attributed it to that.  In fact, the following morning, I couldn't bend over without a pretty sharp ache, then it stopped.  Then yesterday, while I was running on the treadmill, it started again.  It is still here today and it doesn't feel right.  It is toward the side and back and it is discomfort, not pain.

I will wait for two weeks from April 28th.  If it recurs again or doesn't go away in that time, then I will go see my onc.

    All my best to you,

    Bliss

The liver is located on the right side of the upper abdomen in the front. Back pain could be: a pinched nerve in the spine or if the pain is in the lower back it could be kidney or adrenal pain.  I'd get it checked out anyway though, better safe than sorry.

I think read somewhere on these boards that there's a rule of thumb about pain that lasts longer than 2 weeks should be checked out, but you could always call your onc's office to see if they are worried about it.  Good luck - hope it is nothing.
