So you ladies have the giant pussy zit things too? Mine are oozing (really sorry about tmi, but I gotta ask someone!) I seem to have two that reoccur now. They are painful as they fill, then they pop and feel better, but hurt. This is a new deal. I still have 13 to go. I will try to see the doc tomorrow, but any help would be appreciated.KatieYea, how about St. Louis? Just off the 70.. I bet there is a Steak and Shake somewhere close by...

I don't know why that posted in the weird font?

I saw my Chemo Onc on Friday before my Herceptin Tx and told him my hip/thigh pain is getting worse. It isn't allowing me to sleep at night and hurts even while I'm sitting. He is sending me for a full body bone scan to rule out Bone Mets. To top it off, he decided to give me a breast exam and found a painful lump near the surgical site on my breast (I thought the pain was from my daily Rads as my boob is swollen) and is sending me for a Mammo and Ultrasound tomorrow to rule out cancer recurrence. Needless to say, I am a little anxious:( It helps to share this info on this thread, as I haven't told my sons, parents nor siblings. I don't want them to worry until I have all the results. I thank god for the support of my DH who usually takes me to all my doc appointments, except for daily rads which I go by myself...I'm in and out within 30 minutes now.
Today will be my 10th Tx....21 to go!
-
CinCan: My heart goes out to you, I do hope there's nothing wrong. I'm sending you virtual (((hugs))).

CinCan - does this crap ever end????????????
Best wishes to you!!!!!!!!!!

Another day. I think the fatigue finally hit yesterday. All I want to do is sleep.
And my breast feels all swollen and heavy and painful again, it hasn't felt this way since the first week. I wonder if it's a menstrual cycle thing.
Yesterday's CD was Alejandro Escovedo - Real Animal. Haven't yet decided what I'll take today.
-
Just realized when I'm done with today, I'll be in the single digits.
15 down, 10 to go.
Off to get Zapped.
-
OK, 9 left.
Today's CD - Sly and the Family Stone - Greatest Hits
I looooove those single digits!
My boob is starting to get scarily red-ish.
-
I am so glad to be done. I am off work today, so didn't have to be anywhere this morning and I slept until 10:00. Felt strange not to be going to the hospital this morning. Most of my lines came off when I showered today. Just some purple ink left. I should be very happy today...but for some reason feeling down. My son told me he was not going to be in town for Mother's day and that makes me sad. This also sounds silly, but family and friends don't ask how I am anymore. Really I am not self centered or anything, but sometimes you do need to talk. I have several family members that as soon as I found out I didn't have to have chemo, I never hear from them again. People who were calling all the time before, never heard from them during radiation. People telling me that everything is good now. I don't feel like everything is going to be good, I feel like I will always be looking for this cancer to come back. I see the oncologist next week to find out about hormone therapy. That says to me, it is not over yet. Sorry to vent....just feeling sad today. Guess I'll need to head over the next topic now....hormone therapy. When I finished rads yesterday they gave me a teddy bear and got hugs from everyone. Had to say goodbye to the people in the waiting area, we had gotten talkative with each other. Again sorry to vent.
-
LilyLu: Congratulations!!!! Wish mine had been over that quick. Don't worry about the hormone therapy - you'll be fine.
KatieMom: I don't have any blisters. What creams are you using? I never apply cream the day of the treatment until after I've been.
CinCan: How did the scan go? Are you OK?
Well I'm now 2/3 of the way with 20 done and 10 to go. The head tech said my skin is looking really good still - it's worth all of the effort looking after it.
Sue
-
LilyLu, no need to apologize. I can relate to what you're saying - I had neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by surgery and now radiation. Many friends checked on me regularly during the chemo, but seemed unaware that there was any treatment after that. I think the popular conception is that chemotherapy is the only really important part of treatment.
Now my sister is the only person who asks me how the radiation is going, unless I bring up the subject myself. I don't mean to sound sulky about it - I'm certainly capable of calling people and asking for support if I really feel I need it - but it is interesting how chemotherapy gets all the attention.
I had #8 of 33 today, and my skin is starting to get red and very sensitive. I was hoping it wouldn't be this early.
-
MNLinda: What creams are you using? I'm sorry you have started to get such a reaction so early. I guess it depends on what your skin type is.

Have been reading the April posts and feel very attached, though haven't posted much. I have my #28 and last full breast rad tomorrow. Then 6 more to tumor bed. Worked teaching until last Fri-just decided to take a few weeks off to heal. My breast has had a burn looking like a weird iron had scorched it. Dr. didn't believe in creams, etc. until it got pretty bad. Peeled last weekend. Weird today, though. Looks like the burn is fading! Glad to be finishing-moving on to drugs for 5 yrs!
Regards to all of my fellow April girls! Had a bad reaction to aloe creams-even though I live in Hi. and have used it for years. I think radiation may alter your body in many ways. Got a flu thing right before I started rad and still have a bit of it. Good luck to all! See you on the hormone site.

I agree about the dwindling attention but am relieved. "You look so good"- like I should look weird. Btw, this whole thing sucks! That said, I have appreciated this site.
-
Thank you Suepen and Sweatyspice!
The mammo and Ultrasound showed a Seroma which is a buildup of fluid. The doctor drained it and ahhh.. my boob feels so much better. I was even able to get my 11th rad treatment...I'm on a roll and don't want anything to interrupt so I can be done with it! Now just waiting for my bone scan to be scheduled and done.... and praying all will be well also.
-
CinCan: Great news - I knew it was fluid. Didn't you have a bone scan prior to treatment? I had a ct scan and bone scan before surgery or soon after - I've forgotten. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be fine. My aches are still persisting so I've started taking glucosamine and fish oil.

I'm now into the single digits - 9 to go, but I'll only get 4 next week as they are closed for servicing again on Thursday. They were supposed to schedule my tx next Wednesday at a time convenient for my herceptin treatment but they've stuffed up, so I'll have to go out there and then come home and then go out there again an hour or so later - good grief. Lucky it's only a 15 minute drive.
-
Sue, I've been given something called Special Care cream to use right after the treatment. The main ingredient is aloe vera, but it also contains safflower oil, vitamin E and a bunch of other stuff. In the evening I put on some Aquaphor, then in the morning I usually shower and follow up the shower with Fruit of the Earth pure aloe vera gel. That's about six hours before my treatment.
Every couple of days they put a cold gel pad of some sort on me for the treatment. Is everyone getting that?
-
Yesterday sure was fun. Rads then PS followup then dentist for cleaning.
Today it's going to be rads and a freebie art class thru Gilda's Club. I want one measly day of fun!
Boob seems to be OK today, which means she'll probably get annoyed with me over the weekend. She goes in waves.
Yesterday was a Ramones Greatest Hits CD. There was something extremely unexpectedly satisfying about climbing on the table to the lyrics "Hey, Ho, Let's Go!" That was # 9 to go. Today's zap will be Matisyahu - Live at Stubb's (which will be 8 to go). I'm all about counting backwards. Better get in the shower......
-
Suepen - No I have never had a full body bone scan. One of the RAD Oncs told me that it's the Taxotere that gives you the joint pain/aches and can last up to 6 months after completion of treatments. I think it may also be the Herceptin that we are on.
MNLinda - I wish I got a cold gel pad placed on me....my boob sure would appreciate it!
sweatyspice - lets go dancing.......
-
I'm half way - had number 13 today and have 12 left. Wish it was over
I'm following everyone's progress and news but not much energy to contribute.....
Hugs
-
CinCan, I'm telling you, there needs to be a meetup in Chicago or some middle place. Or I just need a Cali vacation.
So the rad tech asked me if I was putting on lotion b/c as far as she's concerned by breast is getting red. Red enough to ask me the question. Meanwhile, this morning before I left I was thinking how lucky and non-red I was....
So now I'm panicking and will hopefully be better about remembering to slather on the goo.
-
CinCan: I hope you can get your scan scheduled soon. It seemed to be standard procedure over here to do it after surgery. I remember, I had a chest xray before surgery, then the ct scan and bone scan before I started chemo.
Have a great weekend off girls.

Friday...woohoo! I'm almost half way there - 13 of 30 done.
I asked the doctor about the pimple mess. He said that it was folliculitis, and it sometimes happens to rads patients. He said to try hydrocortisone or benadryl ointment. I've used the hydrocortisone for a few days, and it has helped the itch some.
About sunscreens, he said to try to find one without alcohol.
Have a great weekend, everyone.
-
I am finished with radiation as of today. I turned red but I had no burning thank goodness. I had almost no side effect from the radiation. I hope I am as lucky with the tamoxifen. Good Luck Ladies
-
For sunscreen, I picked up something called Nature's Gate Aqua Block - SPF 50 - at the local Whole Foods store. It's made up of mostly herbal stuff, including aloe vera, and as far as I can tell contains no alcohol. The label says very water resistant - recommended for water sports.
Anybody have any tips for removing Aquaphor from your hands after application? I can't wash it off, so I end up kind of scrubbing it off my hands with a towel, but I'm wondering if it's going to wash out of the towels. It also rubs off on my pajamas.
-
MNLinda, I have no tips for getting it off, I just decided to choose one set of PJs and some old towels to be the aquaphor victims. I read on this site about stains.
I'm with those that have noticed people don't really think we're going through anything any more. Of course, I guess I should be glad about that because I try to keep things normal, so guess I shouldn't feel bad when people go along with my lead. I also have read and experienced once that it is a really big "down" time when treatment ends.....and you're no longer actively fighting your disease. You have looked forward to the time, and now it is disconcerting to just hope and watch........
-
grrrh Just drove 30 minutes out to get zapped, only to find the machine was down. I asked why no one had called, and they checked their records to discover that they had written my phone number down wrong. Thought I was going to be done this week, but now will have to go at least one day next week. Grrhh grrhh
Also getting these little raised itchy (very itchy) bumps between and under breasts (both radiated and non-radiated). I have had them before (pre-radiation days) and never knew what they were. They would kind of come and go. But now there are more than usual. The doctor said blocked sweat glands. Has anyone else had this. I don't have any other skin response (not even pink).
-
I have the itchy bumps too, are you on your back? I'm on my stomach and my bumps are mostly near the cleavage - upper inner quadrant - and a few closer to my armpit. The nurses said if you're prone you get them where I'm getting them and if you're supine you get them where you're getting them. If I'd known, I might have gone for supine instead!
They also told me they were damaged sweat glands. Apparently it's called "radiation dermatitis."
They suggested 1% cortisone cream, which I tried but it made things worse. They suggested Benadryl cream, but said if the cortisone didn't work for me I'd probably have the same reaction to Benadryl. They gave me some sample gel pads which I haven't tried yet. For whatever reason, they're not terribly itchy today. The weekend was hellish though.
Ran late today, forgot to bring a CD, got there 12 minutes late. Felt horribly guilty for mucking up the scheduling. Then I found out that my rad onc, who I normally see on Tues, had changed her schedule for the week and I was supposed to see her today. She didn't actually show up for about 2 1/2 more hours. At about an hour forty five, I went out for a muffin (breakfast). She finally showed a bit before the time I'd decided I was going to walk out.
I'm getting pretty red now, but I think I got the first itchy bumps (near my armpit) before I was pink.
Six more to go.
