edited June 2014 in Stage I Breast Cancer

Just visted with my BS after having a lumpectomy in mid-April with an re-excision a few days later to get clear margins.  Fortunately he did get clear margins with the second surgery and the 5 nodes that were removed, all were clear! yay, on that one.  Now on to onco tomorrow.  The surgeon used the term stage1, but thought I may need chemo and maybe radiation.  On my path report it states ER: srongly positive (3+) it's either FR or PR (can't read it): positive (2+) and Her-2/Neu: Negative.  Not quite sure what all this means and he basically said the onco. would be the one that would explain everything to me in more detail.  He also told me that my cancer is estrogen related.  Does this sound right to you?

Does anyone here have the same or similar numbers as me?  I am 53 years old, post menopausal and on an emotional roller coaster ride.  But I must add, am better than a few weeks ago during the "waiting for results hell".

Sounds about right.  You are ER (Estorgen) and PR (Progesteron) positive.  This is good, because you can control the ER/PR with medications, i.e. Tamoxifen for premeno and I think Armidex for post meno..

Radiation and chemo, not sure what to tell you on that.  I had rads not chemo becaue I took a test called the Oncotype DX test and I scored low.  Goodle it, you should ask the onc about it.

Congrats on the clear margins!!  Yes, it is a rollercoaster, but you will get through this.  Glad you have found these threads.

Thanks Makraz for replying so fast.  It seems I am a bit impatient about getting answers and am feeling like any information at all makes me a little bit more in control.  I have been reading about the oncotype DX test and will definitely mention it to my oncologist. I am very fortunate to live in a city where there is a very reputable cancer center so I really do feel I am in good hands.  I am also soooo thankful that someone mentioned this site to me.  It is very comforting to know I can talk to others going through what I am going through and my questions will be answered honestly.  Thanks again Makraz!

Mtf-Sorry you had to be part of this group. but welcome, the hard part is the waiting, every onc is different in what TX plan they have, but i think from what i have seen is woman who are PM and ER+ HER- clear margins and stage 1 usually dont have chemo or rads, but like i said every Onc is different I hope you will only need to take the 5 year pill, we are all here for you- ((((((((hugs))))))))

Mtf, I was the same way.  Knowledge is power and the more I learned about this, the more in control I felt. Bring a list of questions and a notebook so you can keep track of all the info they give you.

    Best of luck tomorrow!

Thanks for the responses.  As this road is a new journey for me all the help and support is truly appreciated.  I have already begun using a notebook to jot down questions and answers; my amazing 22 yr. old daughter has kinda been my note taker; along with being my "rock".  She is amazing!  Thanks for all of the words of encouragement.  From just reading different areas in this site; I can tell there are a lot of strong, intelligent, and amazing women that are members of this"club".  It really gives me encouragment to witness the "survivor" instinct in each of them which in turn gives me the attitude, if they can do it; I sure as hell can.

Makraz<If you don't mind telling, what is your age.  I am 53 pre-menopausal and can't decide if I should do a combo of chemo and hormone therapy or just the therapy.  My onco score is 14, stage 1 , grade 2, 1.8 cm, node neg, pr/er pos and her2 neg.
