So I've been sitting a lot at work for the past week and now my butt is hurting quite a bit. I don't want to be alarmed and immediately think it's a sign of mets, but as we all know, every pain and ache after cancer can put us in high alert.

When should I tell my oncologist about it? I'm not in pain every day (wasn't yesterday) so I'm trying to think that it's just due to the sitting. But can a pain in the butt literally be an indication of a pain in the butt bone met? Where are the more common places for a bone met to occur?

    Thanks ladies!

Bejuce, if it will make you feel better, please go see your onc and tell him/her about it.

I too get the "every ache or rash" is mets.  Last time, I made an appointment with the onc, three days after I had already seen him because I had a rash on my arm. . .  While I felt like a jerk, it figured it was better than having a freak-out.

He looked at the rash and said it looked like a food allergy--had I had anything different to eat lately?  And I rememberd over Passover I ate okra for the first time.  Well, it healed in am matter of days and I know not to each okra ever again.

And he did mention that at about three years out, many of us ladies freak at any new pain/rash, etc., and that I should feel free to drop in and see him, even thought it would probablly be nothing, it would ease my mind.

I am very happy I went, even though I felt like a jerk--better to feel like a jerk and get an answer than to worry yourself silly!!

p,s,  a few months ago I had a backache, and of course, went running to the onc that I had spinal mets.  MRI later, it was just siatica--but I am still glad I went and had it checked out!

Sigh, we must do what we must do for peace of mind.

    Bejuce,

Don't beat yourself up for worrying.  As you've seen from my recent post I'm doing the same thing.  I think it's only natural to worry about aches and pains now after all we've been through!  I'm sure someone else has already mentioned it, but I get the impression that met pain doesn't come and go, it just stays.  So the fact that you don't feel pain ALL the time is a good thing, yes?

If it's persisting tomorrow maybe try to see if the doc can see you before Friday so you don't have to go all weekend worrying.  Or for that matter maybe wait through the weekend and see if it goes away since you won't be at work.

Let us know how you are doing.

    Love,

    Sharon :)

When in doubt...have it checked out. I was coming up to my 6 month check up and the month before my neck was bothering me. The people at my local cancer support group urged me to call my oncologist. I emailed her and she had me move my appointment up. I'm happy to report that all my lab work and bone scan came back fine.

I would have driven myself crazy if I didn't listen to my friends and check in with my doctor. As of today, I am fine. Next ache or pain and I will freak out again!

Your butt can hurt from hurting your siatica or tailbone. Did you do any exercise or anything that might have irratated those muscles? Some times I get pain there when I run. I got some pain there while on vacation and got a massage and the pain went away. Ask your husband to amssage your lower back, tailbone, and booty:) Also, go with the 2 week rule. I am sure your ok though it doesn't sound like mets.

also if the pain comes and goes then it's probably nothing.

Try taking some Alveve or Advil-they are both anti inflammatory drugs so if they relieve the pain your in the clear.

Thank you, ladies!  I tried to relax last night when I got home with the kids, and was busy playing tennis and soccer with them in our yard.  Didn't have any pain at night and this morning, but started bothering me a bit again when I sat in the car and now at work.  I'll watch it for the next week or so, but hope its' nothing.

Thanks for all your support as always!

bejuce~ Just wondering if your pain is gone. I also had pain around my tailbone area during snowmobiling time. It felt more like a deep bruising than bone pain though. It has mostly gone away but if I sit a long time in the car or on a plane I notice it. Nothing I need to take meds for but was worrying awhile. The onc said I could have an xray if it continued but it actually got better. I had heard from others here on the boards that they had similar symptoms too. I've been trying to exercise more so that brings more aches all over. I tend to blame Arimidex for alot of this!

Thank you everyone for checking in on me.  I spent the weekend pretty much pain free, but felt it again Monday when I started driving my kids to school and sat down at my chair at work. The pain went away again on Tuesday so I feel more confident that it is not mets.

Still, this experience has made me even more aware of any little ache or body change I notice...

I agree with you! In the past I would have a pain, take advil and not think twice about it! Now I notice everything! I started keeping a notebook to jot things down and it has been reassuring that so many things just go away. I work 12 hour shifts so get achey on work days but do well when I'm home and taking it easy. I think some issues from treatment take a long time to go away too.
