Fluid Leak From MX Scar

My mother had her MX two weeks ago. She had the drain tube removed yesterday. This morning she noticed that some clear fluid is leaking from a small portion of her MX scar. Is this due to fluid accumulation in the breast area after removal of the drain tube ? Is this normal ? How should she monitor this ?

Thanks much for any help.

I don't have a response for you, but I have been thinking about your mother and hoping that she is doing okay, particularly after learning about the mastectomy was apparently unncessary.

I had a single mast and fluid leaked from my incision in one spot literally for weeks following the removal of the drains.  If the fluid is clear (mine was a little pinkish at times) and not excessive I'd just keep it covered with gauze and change as needed.  If it hasn't slowed down by Monday a call to the Dr. might be in order.  But in my opinion this is not abnormal.

Good luck to your Mom.  Gentle hugs to you both.

This happened to me....as my BS nurse told me... it is good that it's coming out.... it has to go somewhere. Make sure that her BS (breast surgeon) knows about this. Watch to see if the fluid changes color, or begins to smell. Keep a sterile bandage over it. Send me a PM if you like.

See the doc asap!! I had a "leaky" breast after a lumpectomy for 2 months until it finally got infected and ended up in the hospital for a week with IV antibiotics. Be insistent! Get a course of meds! Don't let them tell you it is okay... it isn't!

    Update :

The slight seepage from my mother's MX scar continues. Now another problem has surfaced. When the PS removed my mother's drain tube he told her that the area above her breast and adjacent to her shoulder should be flat. Should it swell up to contact him ASAP. Well, guess what. The area is noticeably swollen this morning. Accumulated fluid ? Also, she states that she can feel the TE move around sometimes. Is that normal ? Appointment scheduled for tomorrow.
