Francine...My SIL said that my nephew is doing exceptionally well. He got out of ICU yesterday and he was able to take a shower today. He is such a positive and brave kid. He will start chemo in a month and then radiation.

Oh my, I get behind so quickly!

Ladies - the NYC trip looked like so much fun. So sorry to have missed it, but will definitely be on board for the MWP 2011 get- together!

Francine - sorry to hear about your nephew's passing. Sounds like he was a gem, and made his time on earth wonderful for all who knew him. Big hugs! Hope you are having a great time on your Guatemala trip - it sounds exciting!

Nadine - glad to hear that your MRI came out well.

WLL - port removal was easy. I had gen anesthesia in hospital, but just a short day surgery. Very little discomfort, and so happy to have it GONE!

Christy - sorry about your nephew as well, and very happy to hear that he is doing better.

Dayla - could you have chigger bites? They are seriously itchy, and the itch and redness lasts 3-4 weeks. They are miniscule ticks that are very common in that area. They like to congregate in warm moist areas, like sock and underwear lines. Collodial oatmeal and calomine lotion are the most soothing treatments, and unfortunately nothing is a fast remedy, you just have to wait for the bumps to subside.

Ok, I know I am forgetting to comment on half of what I read, and I am super sorry about that. I have to do better about staying caught up!

Nice to see some of you who have been awol (Gina, Buddy, Arnie, WLL, Julie, etc). I loved your story Julie, and congrats on your impending wedding!

     Hope all is well!

Christy, so glad to hear that your nephew is healing well. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts :)

Sorry I keep changing my pic, ladies...but for some reason, my hair growth has taken off lately!! And I want to keep the picture current to encourage others. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with switching from Arimidex to Femara? I may have to ask about that...

    Cheers,

    Nadine

    Hi Ladies,

I'm home. Trip was good. Not a tropical place as elevation was high but more historic. We enjoyed traveling around and meeting our bus mates and seeing many interesting things.. Pictures to follow soon.

Christy..Glad to hear your nephew is improving. We all wish him the best.

Beth..What type of reconstruction are you going to have?

Nice to hear from Janine, Nadine and others.

Oh yes yesterday was the anniversary of my last chemo. I had four TC's . Seems like  a long time ago.

Sunday is a tribute to my nephew. He died one month ago this weekend. So hard to believe .

    Hugs to all,

    Francine

Congrats on One Year post chemo...now that seems like a long time ago. My last chemo date will be June 1st. Another milestone!

    Hi ladies,

Here are a few photos taken in Guatemala. Please don't be jealous. I worked for many years to get to this stage called retirement. You will all get there eventually. Remember I am probably the old lady on this board.

Yes it is one month since my nephews death and exactly one month since you all ( a few of you) came to NYC. We were lucky when we were in Times Square. Can you imagine what it would have been like if it was last weekend with the bomb etc.

Christy..How is your nephew doing. What is his name?

Hello all - and a belated Happy Mothers' Day to the mothers among us.

    Francine great pictures as always.

Okay, so this timing is a little weird - but this weekend I had occasion to do a home pregnancy test after my period failed to arrive on Thursday. In fact, I did 2 tests. Both were positive. I have to go and do a blood test today to get confirmation, but it appears I have conceived.

I'm incredibly conflicted. You know how much I wanted to preserve my fertility but I had accepted my doctor's advice that I should not try to fall pregnant for at least a year after chemo. I am happy that my ovaries have apparently returned to full capacity, but equal parts scared that I'll be damaging my own health AND that it is too soon after treatment to be safe for the baby. I haven't lost the chemo weight or done the other things that will make me healthy.

Of course if I am indeed pregnant it  is only 3 weeks or so, and many many many things can go wrong so that I am not telling anyone yet (except you guys, and Damian).  I am scared the fertility doctor will tell me horrible statistics that will make me have to think about options that morally I find really troubling.

Sakura:  Gets as much information as possible.  RESEARCH everything!!  You want to make an informed decision.  I am sure that you will choose what is best for you and your child.

Take care...I'll be praying for you!

    Hi all!

Happy belated Mother's Day to all of you!

Rachel - fabulous news, though I know you are really torn. I pray and hope everything will be allright for you with this pregnancy. I had another friend who also got pregnant within a few months of finishing treatment (on accident) and the baby was healthy and perfectly fine, and mom is still doing great 10 years later.

I know that the timing is a bit off for you, but God makes things happen for a reason, and I am sure He will take care of you no matter what happens.

    How does Damian feel?

I finally had my menstrual cycle return last week, after not having one for over a year. I hope that, like you, my ovaries can return to normal, and maybe I can conceive in a few years.

Thoughts and prayers are with you!

Francine - loved the Guatemala pics, that looks like it was a great trip! Hope to see more pics!

Rachel: Wow that's big news! I am sure you are a bit torn but try to really focus on the positive and don't let the fertility doctor get you upset. The stats etc may end up being a lot better than you are anticipating. If we always wait in life for perfect timing, perfect this n' that then we would never take a step forward. Keep us posted and I am sending prayers and positive thoughts for you.

Janine: Yeah for your menstrual return!

Francine: How is NYC. Was everyone a bit uptight with the Times Square stuff?

Hope everyone had a lovely Mother's Day.

    Hugs

    Hi

Rachel..I too hope things work out for the best. I agree that you should find out as much as you can  and go to a doctor that you really trust. Isn't it funny how things work out sometimes when we least expect it. Yes how does Damien feel?

Beth..NYC was NYC no different. But when we returned home my friend called to say that once again there was a suspicious package in Times Square and people were kept at bay once again. I do believe that in the future we will have many false alarms but that is good.

Would you believe this? I went to my PS today to have my implanted  breast checked. It is a little bigger than my real one and there appears to be a hollow part above the breast ,I guess due to slippage. Well my two plastic surgeons said they could fix both problems with a few more surgeries. No problem with that at all. But would you believe that in my county the major hospitals no longers participate in my hospitalization. So no more elective proceedures till they come to an agreement .Is that the wildest thing ? I am not in a hurry but ...

Hope all had a pleasant mother's day. MY DH took me out for brunch and then we went to my nephews memorial. It was incredible the outpouring of love these people had for him. So  moving. The host's son spoke to us about Daniel via Skype from Israel. Never saw skype before. Amazing technology.

    Hugs,

    Francine

Francine: That must have been so heart warming to once again see the outpouring of love for Daniel.

    Really....more surgery. I thought they looked great!Smile

Skype...I just started on skype a couple of weeks ago. Really cool. I've had my morning coffee chatting on skype to one of my oldest friends who lives at the other end of the country.

Hi Beth..I do believe that my breast had dropped more recently as I did not notice the hollow part a few weeks ago. It's funny that having more surgeries at this point mean little to me. After all I have been through I may as well try for a little better fit and look.

Many of our friends Skype friends and grandchildren who are far away.

Thks for the nice comments on Daniel. I should go and write these kind people a nice note .

    Hugs,

    Francine

I will try to call you just to talk in a day or two.

Francine! Your nephew was one powerful young man to have had such a nice memorial!  You must be so proud!  My implant dropped as well that is why I had it removed. It was so uncomfortable and it got so it dropped underneath my bra!  Hope that doesn't happen to you! Sakura!  Everything for a reason!  Educate yourself and you will do the right thing!!

    Hi ladies,

Dawn, my implant dropped just a bit. Still I look real good even without a bra and just a camisole which is what I wear most often. When the time comes I must decide if a revision is really necessary.

    Rachel..How is everything going?

Nasty weather once again in NYs.

NYC trip ladies ..did you hear about the crash of the Staten Island Ferry?

    Francine

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments. I knew it was  the right thing to tell  you.

The blood test confirmed  it, and I have the initial scan on Friday week. I told the doctor that this was a genuine accident (I really did intend to wait until next year) and asked whether I should be telling the oncologist. She told me that she will tell him (thank God for that!) and that it is still early days and anything could happen. So the only thing to do is sit  tight, avoid blue cheese and sushi, and wait for next week.

Damian is keeping his cards close to his chest - in part I think because he has experience with his ex wife of the trauma of miscarriage so he knows not to get too excited too soon - but he is pretty happy. And I just feel surreal! This time last year was the day of my third AC chemo - can this really be me only 12 months later?
