scans themselves are damaging to the body.  Since the statistics show that survival doesn't change with frequent scans post bc, they don't bother unless their are symptoms. It's kinds of weighing which does more damage, catching it later or purposefully damaging the body.

Absent symptoms, my onc does what she calls "anniversary" scans - 1 year out of active treatment, then 5 years out, then 10, etc.  She feels this balances the use of scans to catch things early v. the damage scans can cause.

I am out of the loop on the scans.  I've had a bone scan (recently) as well as an MRI and various ultra sounds and x-rays.  How damaging are scans...and what specifically do they damage?  Thanks pink peeps.

radiation does some damage in everyone bc and normal . the question is, does your body repair the damage? How much other damage is being done environmentally?  It's looking more and more like it is a total load question not an absolute number question.
