perimenopause?

Hello girls. I know you are not doctors, but you are woment, so you must know a bit about menopause.

A month ago, I had pelvic pain while running. Same kind of pain as when I was 9 months pregnant.

Lately, I had low back pain. Sometimes spread to the legs and abdomen, same kind of pain I get when I have my periods.

I started to worry, of course, about cancer. But then, I read about perimenopause and it seems that there is a lot of symptoms like ''periods pain'' even if you are not in your periods, pelvic pain, fatigue, etc.

Anybody with that kind of experience?

If you don't mind me asking how old you are? I am 38 and I am experiencing this too. I even thought about going to the Dr and asking him to run tests to see if I am in early menopause.

Also, might be nerve pain from running. I exercise too.

I am 43.  The problem with menaupose is that there is no test to verify this.  I've read that among other things, premenause can bring longer and more intense PMS... aaaah!

Mginger, there seem to be so many symptoms of perimenopause. Every woman is different but if you are concerned about anything, you should get a doctor's opinion - preferably a gynocologist. Last year I had some break through bleeding and was referred to a gyn. I had vaginal ultrasound which led to a D&C and a uterine polyp was removed.

I used to get sharp, stabbing pains low down on my left side. I don't know what that was - I worried that I might have cervical cancer but the ultrasound gave me the all clear for that. It's worth having a few tests to get peace of mind.

Have you been to your GYN?  I was having pelvic pain last fall and it turned out to be ovarian cysts which were diagnosed with a trans vaginal ultrasound.  They resolved on their own, but I did have pain on and off for about a month.  It hurt during intercourse, when I exercised, and even when I drove over speed bumps.  You may just want to get it checked out to be sure.  I hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks for your input.  I think that I am trying to make a non-stressing, low-impact diagnosis for myself. I guess I am so tired - as you must be too - of hospitals, waiting, nails biting...

The only thing I have to offer here is that I rather enjoyed my transvaginal ultrasound procedure.  As diagnostic tests go.....

I'm looking forward to a repeat if I get the same (very) handsome doc doing the procedure.

    Sad but true.

But was it the transvaginal ultrasound or something else???

First he did an ultrasound thing where he smushed the jelly stuff on my abdomen and ran the scanner thingy over it.  That wasn't the fun part.  Then he did a thing where he inserted a dildo-like probe and poked around a little bit.  That was the fun part!  Not sure which test was technically the transvaginal ultrasound.

the internal one was the TVUS----your doctor did it himself? I just had a technician, who actually had me insert the probe myself, which seemed a little weird, but others say they had to do the same.

and I also had abdominal discomfort and ended up with large ruptured ovarian cysts ( and ended up with a TAH/BSO and immediate surgical menopause)---you may want to get it checked out by your gyn  to rule out any problems.

"My" gyn was the head of the dep't, so he was above doing tests.  I scheduled a time to come in for the test separately.  It was a while ago (before the BC nonsense started), probably a little over a year ago, but I think a tech did the abdominal jelly thing and then a Dr. came in and took over from the tech, re-doing the abdominal jelly thing.  Then the Dr. did the internal poking thing.  At least I'm pretty darn sure he was a Dr.  Since I think they charged my ins co something like $700 for these tests, I sure hope it was a Dr.!!

Also because he discussed the results with me, which I don't think techs are allowed to do.  Who knows, maybe he was a resident or a fellow and they gave him the low level jobs.

In any case, whoever he was, he was a very handsome guy and I absolutely, positively didn't do the insertion part myself!!!  If I had, I wouldn't be remembering the experience so fondly!  It really doesn't get better than that, as far as I'm concerned.
