negative nodes that were positive before chemo anyone?
Hello, ive often wondered if any of you tn ladies who have had chemo before surgery had positive nodes before chemo? And then after chemo and surgery your nodes were negative?
I just wondered because i see lots of negative nodes but wonder if they were actually positive before chemo wiped them out. Thanks

Ok...I still need figures..."many" women..just doesn't get it for me. I know we have had this discussion before. Since cancer can travel through the blood and not just the nodes....isn't that what the chemotherapy is for????? Isn't that why chemo is good for tn's and not as good for er-pr positive since they are estrogen fed? Question to ask the oncs....??? These threads are great for discussions, etc..but we are not doctors or scientists.

I had postitive nodes, then had neoadjuvent chemo. My nodes had some dead and dying cancer after the chemo, but they were still considered postitive becasue they could tell the cancer had been there. I had some that the chemo had not even touched also.
Sorry i did not realkize that this was the TN board. I can delete my response if you would like me too!

I had my surgery first. I did not do chemo first. My stats below is what was given to me after the pathology of my surgery. I HOPE my chemo worked and this will be something in the rear view mirror.....

Ahh Heidi..you know I love you....it just freaks me out when I see "many" women......I just posted a study on the 2b recurrence thread that is fairly interesting....it talks about nodal status...if you want to go over there and take a look at it...but then again a study is just that..a study..like you said things change every day.
I did not take a multi vitamin before I was diagnosed....nor did I eat an apple every day....right now I do and not going to stop...... -

Guess we just need to find the studies that we "like" and ignore the rest!! Kinda when I found my lump I just looked up moveable solid lump and came up with fibrodema??? I counted on that for a long time!
Glad you are getting your life back..we all need to do that and maybe forget the studies in general..though we still need to have the information and we still need to have the hope.
I'm a litte punchy right now...and I'm going to whine...my 6 month mammo is coming up on Tuesday and I would so like not to go..I keep telling myself that I feel great (I do)...I hate having to go through this! I read (another study) that 4 out of 10 bc patients don't do their follow ups..that is alot and I'm tempted but I will be there...my .last mammo 6 months ago was fine....said my breasts were unremarkable...I hope they stayed that way! -

Aah..too funny..my dh keep asking me..when is this mammo..I told him I was a big girl and could go by myself....the last time I saw the BS he said..you must be feeling good..you don't have the guard dog along!....I am feeling good..and I think it should be find..but there is always that fear in the back of your mind.....My dh talks about his "boys" to..funny stuff...they treat them like jewels....

Me! not triple neg. neo adjuvent chemo, knocked the suspicious nodes out, my surgeons decided to call them negative after that. i can go with that! they were probably positive, but wiped out, so ...
having cancer is finding a way to live with uncertainty. not easy, but one can. i do.
take care,

I had at least 5 possitive nodes before chemo...maybe many more..then just one left possitive with a tiny bit after chemo.

Triple negative diagnosed January 2004.
I had TAC dose dense x 6 prior to bilateral mastectomy, followed by rads. I had possibly up to 6 positive nodes before chemo. After the mastectomy (2 levels of nodes removed, 26 in all), the pathology report was clear of any cancer cells in the breast or nodes.
Take care.
