SEPTEMBER 2009 RADS

Kawee..sounds like the vacation from hell!!
-
Ok let's see....vacation from hell, robbery, and waffle breast. Plus my 83 yo mother who's recovering from hip surgery just fell and broker her hand so I'm on cook/personal assistant duty in NJ until further notice. Who thought we'd ever think of rads as "the good ole days". Then again, maybe not. I guess getting back to real life - with all it's trials and tribulations - is a actually a good thing. Hugs !
-
Geez girls....I'm sorry everyone is having such bad time. I had been in that downer place where my mind was constantly swirling with impending doom about cancer coming back and not living long enough to enjoy my "golden years". However, I am happy to report that I am in the process of directing The Laramie Project at our theater and all the busy details of getting this show up and running has elbowed it's way into my brain and pushed out any space to dwell on cancer. What a relief! It's so great to lie awake at night tossing and turning over lighting corrections and stage sets as opposed to cancer recurrence and treatments!
Be well ladies, Mary
-
Oh Mary....it is exciting when you can think of other things can't you???? I think that for so long cancer was all that we thought about and now we have to train our poor brains to think about something else! It is happening, slowly, but is is happening....I saw some people I hadn't seen for a year and they asked me the question: "How are you d--o--i---n---g???? you know the long drawn out question...for a second I wasn't sure what they were talking about! But I have to realize that I haven't seen these people for awhile and I need to be nice...and I was...
-
Hey, since we all are talking about bad luck.....my nephew had to have surgery to remove a golf ball sized cancerous brain tumor last Monday. He made it through surgery great and is recovering in ICU. They also put a port in because he will start chemo soon and then radiation. He is a brave, strong kid. He is only 9 years old.
-
Christy....that just isn't right...give your nephew a hug from me please!..
-
Christy, Remember how we felt all alone, especially at first, well maybe he won't have to with you to understand what he's going thru and to talk to.
I'll say a prayer for him.
-
Hi everyone,
My life is finally returning to a somewhat normal flow. My boss is finally on his sabbatical, he postponed it because of my situation last year. So my job has been all consuming lately. But I feel good and the PT is really working along with the compression bra.
I actually worked out four nights this week, each night adding about 5 minutes to the workout. I'm feeling good physically and finally getting my groove back. Yippee.
Christy..life just isn't fair sometimes. The good thing about a nine year old is that he is young and hopefully very resilient. I will keep your nephew in my prayers too!
It's really nice to hear everyone is beginning to get back to our old lives.
Hey...are we ever going to get together? I'm still game.
-
Thank you all so much..... He has done so good all week. He got out of ICU yesterday and got to take a shower today. He is very positive and brave.
-
Betsy..I'm game....let's do something..even if it is someplace small and just for a day or two.......what can we do, where can we go...I would love to do something....
-
I would love to do something, too. Ideas?
-
Maybe we could get Kawee's DH to pick us up in their RV....we could do the Thelma and Louise thing...I just watched that movie the other night.good stuff.
-
Well, my husband and I are going to Las Vegas for our anniversary June 23.
BUT, How about DISNEYLAND!!!! It is the happiest place on earth. We could all use some happiness!!!
-
I would love to go there..would someone ride the tea cups with me? I refuse to go to the It's a small world after all" ride though..That song drives me nuts.
-
Sorry, don't look to me for a teacup partner. I'd rather go on "small world" even tho I'll sing it for two weeks afterward. Actually, I'd probably skip both of those. I haven't been there for so long, I forget what else is there. Matterhorn, Pirates of the Carribean, Jungle Ride, and who knows what else they have that's new.
-
I love the idea of Disneyland. I'll ride the tea cups...but no way am I going on the "small world" ride. That damn song would be in my head for the rest of the year.
Titan- I typed my first sentence before I read your May 7 post. I think we are kindred spirits.
Amy & Titan - would Disneyland work for you?
-
Betsy....its a small world after all..its a small world after all..its a small world after all, its a small, small WORLD! Imagine a totally off key, raucous, LOUD mouth and you have me singing this...No one needs to hear that.!
I would totaly absolutely LOVE to go to Disney Land....I really don't know if I can swing it $$$ wise...let me think about it....My DH and I are planning a trip to South Caroina this fall....maybe, I can talk him into going to California...but I don't know....we are a little short of $$ right now..2 kids in college, a wedding coming up....the freaking economy...let me look into it.. -
Hey, everyone. Just thought i'd check the site out. Where is everyone? More importantly, HOW is everyone. My checkups are good. If anyone else is out there, let me know how you're doing.
-
I'm here! How was your trip to Las Vegas? Did you have fun and win lots of $$$?
I'm doing well...no check ups until August!

Glad you are doing well also! -
Actually I won $400 dollars playing a 2 cent machine. Playing 48 cents at a time, after 3 plays, there it was. Wouldn't let my husband or myself gamble anymore. Was intent on bringing it home. We went and saw the Jersey Boys while we were there, was great!
Redoing our floors and guest bedroom in the house. Changed the guest bedroom into a den and put in a murphy bed.
My breast is still SO sore. Especially around the surgical site. The BS says not unusual, but dang it's sore.
I haven't checked the other sites to see if any of our guys are on there. Hope they're all doing well. Hope your checkups turn out well, I'm sure they will.

I am doing well. Last mammo was good. No real problems since rads except occ. sharp pain on the side next to my radiated breast. I am keeping track of that and will bring it up next visit if still a problem.
-
Good, Peg. Glad to hear about your checkup. I get those sharp pains, too. Glad to hear from some of you. Been wondering about everyone.
-
Hey Kawee,
Sorry to hear your breast is still sore. I am managing mine fairly well with MLD, compression garments and an occasional PT appt. I had a very "boring" mammogram last week but it sure stirred things up again. I'm still sore from it and the onc feeling me up. He was talking with my dh while he was checking me out...discussing our kitchen remodel. Man he hit the scar area and I just about kicked him. He said...oh sorry then shifted his focus back to the exam. It was actually a little funny...I might have laughed had it not hurt so much.
Wishing everyone a Happy 4th.

Hey Ladies ! Today was the 1 year anniversary of my surgery so I'm guessing you all have either recently had or are about to have yours as well. So for all my September Rads friends, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY !!!!
-
I was just thinking about that yesterday. It has been a year since my surgery this month also. Happy anniversary to you too! I check this site once in awhile. It's good to hear from you. Hope your feeling well. I'm still really tired, but hanging in there!!
-
Hi MTG and Kawee- I started rads in Sept, but mostly visited the October Rad site, which went very quiet, and ended up finishing rads in November. I did read alot of Sept. rads posts, miss BetzyBuzz's funny posts. MTG seems to me your avatar cake was censored, how did you get it back ? lol, glad you did btw. I also have my surgery anniversary this month, the 29th, and wish all of you a Happy Anniversary, I am doing and feeling good, trying to ignore the occasional thought of "What if it comes back" because I chose not to do any hormonal therapy. I my case it was quality vs. quantity of life now.
Gentle hugs to all
dsgirl
-
I'm where you're at dsgirl, I too worry about that sometimes, because I also chose not to do the hormonal thing.
-
Kawee and dsgirl - The thing is, since I skipped chemo I have those "what if" thoughts as well. And I'd bet those who went thru chemo, think "what if" about having a mastectomy and vice versa. There are no guarantees for any of this and it sucks. But for me at least, at this point those thoughts are more and more infrequent. In some ways, it all feels like a bad dream that's becoming fuzzier and fuzzier. And as much as I miss my September Rads friends, I'm thrilled that we've all moved on and gone back to almost normal (or the new normal as some would say).
-
Hi all,
Happy to report the flaming boob has been tamed! All I seem to be stressing about these days is my hair. I swore...after having no hair for months...I would never complain about it again. BUT...I've never had curls before either. I finally cut it all off last week. It's super short but I actually feel better about myself.
For me...I think what if I hadn't have had those dang boosts...maybe I wouldn't have fibrosis or truncal LE? I'm just thankful my energy is back and my chest is behaving.
For some of us..that did chemo our sugery anniversaries were back in Feb/March.
I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well.
