OK -- I bought a One Gallon jar of Pepperoncini's at Sam's Club a couple of weeks ago and I have almost eaten ALL of them!  LOL     I  know that there is a high amount, 430mg sodium content in them and was just wondering if that is why I am craving them "every day."  No matter what I eat -- I seem to have to have a Pepperoncini with it.  The funny thing is that I never was that interested in them before.....  I am 6 months post Chemo and wondered if maybe my tastes have changed?

I am also on Tamoxifen and I believe I was reading to limit salt intake,....

Can anyone tell me if eating these in this high amounts if there are any health benefits?

    Thanks,

    Loretta

Loretta ~  I had to look up Pepperoncini's, but if they're a hot pepper (I think), then this might interest you:

You might just be craving the salt, but maybe your body wants the capsaisin????   Deanna

Your craving made me smile -- but yes, I think chemo changed my tastes, things I loved before are less appealing now (although nothing is off-limits now that my taste has come back!).  But here's my food-craving philosophy since I was in my 20's:  if my body is craving it, I must need something in it, and unless it's unhealthy and a "head" craving instead of a body craving (don't laugh) :) (example:  my cravings for ice cream are usually in my head!), I go with it.  Peppers are one of the foods that are listed several places as being good anti-cancer foods.  Test yourself -- see if you can find low/no salt pepperoncinis, or just eat regular peppers.  The high sodium content of the ones you have is a bit scary, 1500 mg, I think, is the recommended max. daily amount for many people.  If it's the salt you're into, that should become apparent quickly.  I've had a thing for orange bell peppers since I got off chemo and slice them up and eat them raw pretty much every day.  Yum.

dlb823- That's interesting about hot peppers.

NatureGrrl- You have brought up a very good point and I think I will just try eating peppers a healthier waySmile

    Thanks,

    Loretta
