Week after 1st chemo treatment

Options

I had my first chemo treatment last Thursday, Taxotere/Cytoxan.  I guess I'm in shock as to how I'm feeling.  There was nothing in me that thought I would be tired and lethargic on day 5 after chemo.  I'm trying to keep my head straight and am working....is this just me or do you really get so tired so quickly after the first treatment?  Seems very bizarre to me.

Ronnie, for many of us, days 3 & 4 of each cycle were the worst.  Then we would feel a bit better during week 2, and better yet (maybe almost normal) week 3.  But the fatique is cumulative, so be sure to pace yourself and not try to do everything you normally do if you're too tired.  Sometimes doing one thing a day -- especially if that's work -- is enough.  Are you getting anything like Neulasta to keep your white blood count up?  And what day is your chemo?  Mine was on Wednesday, so my flu-like symptoms usually started Friday afternoon, and I was at my worst over the weekend.

If you haven't already, you might want to join the April 2010 chemo group, and also check the ongoing thread on Taxotere & Cytoxin ("Anyone on just Taxotere & Cytoxin?) for lots of input and support from other women doing chemo along with you.

Good luck, and so glad to see on your other thread that you found a new onc!    Deanna

    Hi Ronnie,

I felt worst on day 4 after an infusion.  I had treatments every 3 weeks, and like Deanna says, I felt pretty normal on week 3.  I had TCHx6 and by the 6th tx, the cumulative effects were noticable.  I'm 3 weeks after my last chemo, and my legs still get a little tired after climbing the stairs at work.

Hang in there, and best of luck with your treatment!

Ronnie, I had my first chemo on 4.22.10 and feel the same way! Can't believe how tired I am after doing simple tasks. Hoping for each day to be better til the next time around. Hope the same for you.

I had my first chemo on April 19 and yesterday (one week later) I felt normal. My energy level now seems to be fine and I can say I am almost back to my old self - housework, grocery shopping, running errands.  I found the fatigue the first week to be my biggest obstacle. I was always close to a chair as I would do a little bit and then need to take a break and either sit or lie down for a little while.  I hope that my good feelings continue until my next treatment.

Thanks for asking Deanna.  I am so much better than last week.  On day 6 I started feeling worse, day 7 was horrible, worse by the hour, then noticed I had a white tongue so called the dr. and I had thrush, that had gone to my throat, etc. Anyway it is now cleared up which is wonderful.  I am feeling great, working each day, hosting a shower at my house this week-end.  I just wish my sore throat would go away.  It has been constant since the chemo treatment.  Anyway, I was actually so excited to feel good a couple of days after being on the medicine, it renewed me that this is all going to be fine.

Ronnie, are you using Biotene mouthwash?  It's available at Target, etc.  Very good while you're on chemo.  It might even help your sore throat.    Deanna

No, I'm actually using my normal Crest.  I will stop by there tonight and pick some up.  Thank you for the info.
