Sorry Melanie,
I was so worked up about the first page that I didn't look at the other 3 pages. Glad you have a new Onc.
Hi Grace
-
Hi Melanie,
Good to know that both your port surgery and chemo went well. Either Wednesday or Thursday would work for me for our gethering.
Monique, Good to see you here. Hope you can join us for the gathering as well.
Grace

Hello everyone,
Welcome Monique.
Wednesday or Thursday would work well for me, but Thurs. is my preference doesn't matter what time.
Done... I can check that off, but tired this time. Maybe more mental as I've just reached the finish line but am getting ready for the second leg.? Glad your joint pain is better Melanie.
I'm going to get on my soapbox again and ask if any of you have received the invite to the next Younger and Wiser session? It will be about naturopath information most likely presentation and Q & A's. (I wasen't present for the last planning as I was ill). Anyway should be fun and they are leaving a time at the end for a 'mix and mingle' this time as we have always had activities and sometimes you just get a conversation going and then are asked to stop. We'll see how people like this version, and go from there. I think it is an interesting topic and the presenters s/b great, so hope you can all come! April 27 Tuesday, @630.

Monique - I hope you will be able to join us next week.
Melanie - Glad to hear the port surg went ok.
Diane - Not sure if I can make it on April 27th. My daughter is coming home for the summer from Montreal that afternoon and I haven't seen her since she was home at Xmas. Could I possibly bring her along? She might be interested as she has almost finished her program and she will be a licensed dietician. I am very interested in naturopath and take a ridiculous number of supplements.
Do we have a consensus for next week? Wed or Thurs are both ok. The Forks?
Be Well,
Bev

Question: Has anyone gone to one of the Breast Cancer Action Manitoba meetings?
They meet this Thursday @ 7 at 691 Wolseley Ave. They are involved in the Run For The Cure event which I am interested in.
-
hey Bev,
Many times people bring along spouses, friends, and or family. I think it would be fine as long as the registration isn't too full already. Not sure if that's the first thing your daughter would want but I don't see it being a problem. There is no restrictions on the registration form...I just checked.
No I have not participated with BCAM, although one of their members is on the planning committee for the younger and wiser
I thought it was this week for a get together? If it is next week I'm good with Wednesday.
Diane.

OOps. Guess I missed it then.
Thanks for the info Diane.

HI everyone,
SO sorry I didn't get back to you all. I ended up crashing after all. I guess the Gabepentin only bought me a few extra days. I have basically been in bed since last Tuesday evening. My hubby finally got me out of bed yesterday afternoon b/c the weather was just too good to miss and would do me good. I still felt like crap but it was nice to sit on the deck. I have pink eye in both eyes and fear I have an ear infection. I don't feel as "flu-ish" today but the ears are killing me. I guess I'll give the nurse a call...
I WAS hoping to get together last week, but then I never got back to anyone...so lets try that again...anyone interested in getting together THIS Thurday April 22? we could do a mid/late morning coffee...
Who's in? we can change the date/time if anyone needs...let me know
Melanie
-
just got back from the hospital....I phoned the nurse and she said to come in. apparently I have 1 or more infections, they took chest x-rays drew lots of blood and sent me home with a rx for 2 types of antibiotics...I feel better already...just waiting to hear back from all you to set a time/date!!
Melanie
-
Hey Melanie,
Sorry you are feeling so crappy. Hope those antibiotics help. I know how having infections can really drag you down so if your not feeling up to getting together we can delay. Thursday is only two sleeps away.
That said, I have a follow up scan for 1200 on Thursday so I probably would not be able to go. Friday is out for me too as seeding is starting at my in-laws and unless it is pouring my DH will be out at the farm helping.
Hello to everyone, hope you start to feel better soon Melanie.
Diane.
-
Sorry Melanie. May I suggest that we post pone so Diane can make it?
-
Yah let's plan for next wek then,
Tuesday works best for me as I am sheduled for chemo on Wed, but that could always change, Especially if I am not feeling well.

Hi Melanie and everyone,
I came across your forum yesterday ,I admire the support and strength you all have. I was Dx Nov 27 2001. Survived the chemo and radiation . I was 47 at the time ,and did not have any support or anyone to talk to that had gone thru this . Most came from reading books and checking the internet . Today on the net there is so much more info than back when I was looking . Today I am doing well , it is not so much on my mind as it was back during the early years . Each year I wait for the mamo ,get the results breathe a sigh of relief - then begin to wait for the next one . Best of all is to remain positive and take each day at a time . Would it be okay if I joined your chat group . i live in Wpg in Westwood and work part-time now as an ER nurse. Laurel
-
Welcome Laurel. I would love you to join our chat group! I am almost your next door neighbor. I live across the bridge in Charleswood. Glad to hear your are doing so well. We need more Manitobans on this site.
Melanie - I am not sure if Tuesday is going to work or not. I have a couple of appts & my daughter is coming home from Montreal for 4 months. Yippee!!!! I have volunteered to do a few other things and not certain how things are going to go. I will keep you posted. I really would love to meet all of you.
-
Hi Bev and everyone
Thanks for the reply,Bev , Glad to here you are my neighbor, it is a small world . after all. LOL I usually go to the dog park there ,I have a Rhodsian Ridgeback that I take there for exercise .I know I am problably older than you all (55) but hey you are only as old as you feel ,and I feel pretty young .I would also like to meet you all , I am up for coffee anytime , when I am not working . Laurel

Welcome, Laurel!
Well, I do feel better, although this ear infection has caused me major hearing loss/ringing in the ears...it's soooooo aggravating.
The Dr.s want to switch my chemo to once a week, hoping that I will suffer "less toxicity" than the once every three weeks. It just sucks tat I diddn't get any "up" time this round. I start round three on Wednesday. Bummer.
still hoping to hear from Grace, Dianne and possibly Monique (you too, Laurel) about a get together next week.
Take care all, have a great weekend.
Melanie

Hi everyone,
Welcome Laurel.
Tuesday, Thursday or Friday works for me for a get together for next week.
Hope you are all enjoying the great weather.
Diane
-
Hi Girls Thanks for the warm welcome . I am available Tues , Thurs,Fri also Let me know where and when .I would love to meet with you Laurel
-
Hi everyone
Thank you for such a warm welcome from everyone. Port is much better than picc. I had the pic, central line and now port. I can go into the water with my kids and do anything. I don't feel the needles anymore ( felt like a wasp sting for 3 sec first time around)
So sorry your going through a rough time Melanie. Just take it easy. Taxatore is a very strong chemo. Drink alot of water at the treatment time. ( I drank 3 one litre bottles) to flush out the chemo and drank more at home. I craved carbs all the time and watched Dirty dancing constantly haha.
You have to be very careful about taking any herbal stuff as it could cause major side effects. I know because I have had reactions, (liver swelled up from taking Curecumin). I am taking still drinking Zango. That seem to work for me energy wise.
Not sure if I can Make it Apr 27th. I work nights that night, but I don't know the time or details. It is really nice to connect with all of you.
Monique

Hello again,
Well it seems that Tuesday/Thursday seems like the best for everyone.
I can do Tuesday around 3:30 or...
(I have chemo Wed. but should still be okay for) Thurs. a.m (10:00 ish???)
Let me know your vote,
Melanie
-
Hello Ladies,
Thursday works better for me. Tuesday is the Younger and Wiser event and I need to be there early evening to help out, so that's a little much for that day for me.
As long as you are sure the day after chemo is good for you. A decreased dose this time? Maybe you'll feel better this round, I sure noticed it with a 10% decrease.
Diane.

Hi Thursday morning sounds good for me
Melanie - When I had the Taxotere , at ST B - they put my hands in a basin of ice to prevent the numbness. They also said if I got it in my feet they could do the same with ice . It decreases the blood flow to the area, to prevent numbness . Now I just have a bit on the soles of my feet ,but does not affect ,i just know it is there. Hang in there. Laurel.
-
Okay,
So it sounds like Thursday is the winner. Thursday, say, 10:00 a.m. meet at the forks food court by the elevators. I think that's what we did last time, as it was the most central place.
Maybe check in Thursday before leaving to make sure at least one of us is showing up
-
Sounds good to me. The only glitch would be if my husband has to go out to help his Dad at the farm for seeding and I can't get a bbsitter. I will check in on Thursday.
Diane.

Hello everyone,
I received my no. 9 treatment last Friday. Since I had some reactions during the last round, I didn't check in on internet much. Now, I am happy to know that we are meeting this Thursday with new members joining us. My Dr. is scheduling me on some scans this week and next and I should have the schedule by tomorrow. As long as my scans do not clash with our meeting time, I will show up at 10am this Thursday. Look forward to seeing you all!
Grace

Hi, I am coming to our gathering and will be at the Forks around 10am. Hope to see you all there. I will check in again before I leave to make sure you will be there as well (in 10mins). Grace
-
Grace and Laurel,
Enjoyed talking with both of you at the Forks. Hope all is well with you Melanie, and I enjoyed meeting you in person Bev hopefully next time we will have more time to talk.
I was glad to see the rain, but I think it can stop now.
Diane.

Hi Everyone
Diane & Laurel - I was very happy to meet you both.
Last week was a very busy week. I just can't seem to handle a full schedule. My daughter that you met started working on Monday at the same place she worked last year so I was glad I had a bit of time with her last week.
The younger wiser session was quite informative. So glad I went. Learned a few things I wouldn't otherwise have.
Melanie? Hope things are going 'ok'??
Everyone Be Well,
Bev
-
Hello everyone,
Melanie...hope your ok, I noticed you haven't posted anything in awhile. ((hugs)). sending a PM.
Grace...wondering about getting together for an early morning walk. Any ideas? My radiation treatments started on Monday usually in the am so that would be a good time for me. Also it's much cooler too!
Bev...hope your having a nice time with your daughter.
Diane.

Hello Everyone,
Melanie, hope you are dealing with the weekly Taxotere well. My onc switched me to weekly treatment as well started two weeks ago and will receive the 3rd one this Friday. Would like to hear from you and share some experiences with the weekly treatment.
Hi Diane, Thank you for your walking invitation. I would love to, but not now. The past few weeks I have had a lot. first, Shingles for a week; then, scan results came back with some concerns; and treatment plan changed to weekly based; and more, my port caused some concerns and will be checked out this Friday. .... So much to handle now physically and mentally... Will let you know when I am up for a walk.
Love to everyone,
Grace
