I'm wondering if this is possible? I was dx. with IDC in 2008. Had surgery, chemo, rads, the works. About a year ago I started experiencing ALL the symptoms of IBC, in my same breast as the IDC was. Dr. said it was cellulitis and gave me antibiotics. Symptoms NEVER went away. I urged my Dr. to do further testing and told him about being worried about having IBC, as I said I had EVERY symptom of it that never went away or got better. Dr. kept telling me after all the chemo I had there was NO way it was possible. I was diagnosed in Feb. of this year with extensive bone mets. I started chemo last month. Amazingly, ALL the symptoms that I had in that breast of IBC have virtually disappeared after having 2 rounds of chemo. The heaviness, swelling, redness, warm to the touch, thickening below the nipple, and orange peel like look have all disappeared. He still denies this and says it's NOT possible. Is it??? Just wanted to get an opinion from someone who actualy has IBC. Thanks!

    Suzanne,

Yes, unfortunately it is very possible to get IBC in the breast after a previous IDC diagnosis and treatment.  It has happened to several ladies on this board.  I am sure they will chime in soon.  Sorry about your bone mets but glad you are doing better now.

    Take care,

Thank you both for your replies and information. I am just CERTAIN this is what I've had for quite some time now and both my Oncologist and Radiation Oncologist dismissed this. How can I find out now if that is what is was? Or is it even necessary at this point since it's already spread to many parts of my body? Thanks again! I'm sure both my Dr.'s will argue this because they BOTH missed it!

    Madalyn,

I have ibc w/ bone mets diagnosed 6/09.  No surgery or radiation, just chemo.  I had a biopsy that confirmed this as well as a 3.5cm tumor that is not typical of ibc.  My scans are clear except for a little inflammation with the ibc breast.   I will tell you for me the redness and swelling did not subside with chemo.  I still have redness but my tissue is soft again, not hard like it was when I was diagnosed.  I decided to take some anti-inflammatory juice (the berry, mango, cactus juice type) which has reduced my inflammation & most of the redness.  I also take an Advil in the morning since it works with inflammation & helps with the hormonal aches & pains from Femara.  I had asked months ago on more than one board about how to get rid of the swelling & redness:  I did not get any replies.  Besides the slight redness; my scans are clean for now.  I 2nd the opinions you received.  You should get a another opinion from another oncologist who deals with ibc.  Best Wishes.
