Hi All! Happy Birthday Raymon! We miss you!!
I am well except for bursitis in my left hip and beingFATTTTTTTT!!! I have always been very petite, not now, I am Fat!!!! I am starting an exercise and diet program. I hate being like this It is hard for me to bend over, the only time I was like this I was pregnant!! Almost 2 years of being in treatment and only walking is for the birds. does anyone have any words of wisdom????? I used to run, ski, take areobics, and work as an RN!!! I am an old woman at 54!! Hating it!! I have a 15 yo daughter who I could keep up with!!! HELP!!!!
-
Dawn,
Here are some hints of mine.
1.To loose weight try not to buy things you like to eat. My husband and I have little junk food in the house. I know this can be hard as you have a daughter who probably likes to eat.
2. Try to eat smaller portions.
3. Put cut up fruit or veggies in view in your fridge, when you feel the urge to snack it is there for you to eat instead of bad stuff.
4.I go to the gym and just walk whenever I am free in the mornings.
Hope these hints help you .
Hugs,
Francine

Ok...I think I am finally getting back to some free time. I have been busy since NYC and have been scrambling to get all my receipts, tax info together for my accountant as I have to file before April 30th. Mission accomplished. Sent everything to him yesterday. I have procrastinated on that task for far too long.
Birthday greetings to all the Ladies who are celebrating this week.
Nadine: Good luck with your scan. Please let us know how it goes. Prayers, hugs and positive vibes are flowing through the airwaves to you right now.
Francine: You're cats...you could write a book...lol
Chris: Great pictures and your avatar looks great. I also know where you took it!
Dawn: Ahhh the dreaded weight gain. I hear ya sister!. I have put on weight also and it all seems to settle in my middle. I used to have a waist. Francine gave some great tips. I am all about portion control. I eat pretty much everything but smaller portions. Well not when I was in NYC...I really outdid myself but I am back on the portion train now. Walking helps and no junk in the house....too tempting. My husband has a sweet tooth but I never have cookies and stuff like that in the house. I occassionally bake banana bread for him but that's about it. Prepping veggies and planning meals ahead of time really helps too. Good luck and don't be hard on yourself. We're just coming out of winter hibernation and I think most people gain through the winter.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
Hugs

OK, Beth, I will blame all my weight gain on the winter!
I am now walking more and riding my bike to work when it is nice...about 16 miles each way!
My problem is my appetite....I want to eat ALL the time...and not good stuff. Any recommendations for appetite suppressents??
Take care all,
Chris
P.S. I hope your cat is better, Francine!
-
Chris - It seems I want to eat all the time too.
-
Hi Ladies,
I drink tea when I am hungry. Works sometimes.
Nice to see Beth back on the board..
My cat is beginning to feel a little better. He is less lethargic and beginning to come back to his old self. WE feel the problem is either that he missed my son when he left or resented him coming here and staying in his room. The cats room used to be my son's room.
Nadine..hope all went well today with your scans.
Hugs,
Francine
-
Francine and Raymon..Happy Birthday late!
Good luck Nadine with your scans.
Rachel - Hot? Wow, you just made my day! Too bad I don't look like that in real life! ;-)
-
Hey Ladies! Thanks for the tips! Sweets is not my problem!!! I need to crunch, so anything crunchy is good! My daughters junk food is not mine! I am so busy during the day I don't eat much, so at supper and in the evening that's what I want to do I am trying to be smart and watch portions. I know I'm not alone, but the fine hair and fat body, does not look like me! I used to have thick hair and a thin body!!! Another SE of BC, I guess!!
-
SWEETS are definitely my problem!!
-
Dawnmrn - I don't eat much during the day either due to work busyness. I am a dinner - bedtime snacker too. It's been really hard since we were stuck inside since January. Now I am in an eating pattern I don't like. I keep trying to stop but I cave in most evenings.
-
Hi all,
I just had to chime in on the weight gain thing!!! I've gained alot a weight since chemo and attribute it to the fact that before chemo I smoked, now I don't. So I attribute all my cravings to satisfying the unconscious urge to smoke. I also attribute it to my chemo induced menopause. I also attribute it to tamoxifen.... Ohhh I could go on and on. But since I got back from NYC, I've been working very hard at cutting down on what I eat and braving through the cravings. I'm eating alot more vegetables and am feeling much better... not so weighed down. I've actually lost 2 pounds.. it's a start. I'm walking alot more too. I don't know how long that's going to last since heat is still very unbearable for me...
I hope you're all doing well and have a great night!

Ladies,
Went today with a group of my friends to a restaurant to celebrate my two friends birthdays which are today and mine last Monday. Notice the size of the sandwiches and the size of the slice of cake. Definitely not a place for those of us who like to eat.

Hugs,
Francine
-
Oh my gosh Francine...how do you even attempt eating that sandwich!!!
-
Great pics Francine. OMG I can't get over the sandwich and cake sizes. The cake looks like a tower...lol
Portion control??? that would be tough at that restaurant!
Nadine: Hope all is well.

Beth

Hi,
Yes this place is awesome. The sandwiches are always shared by two people at least. The cake was shared by 10 people and all had doggie bags to take home.
Hope all are doing well.
Nadine - any news?
Hugs,
Francine

Have a great weekend, ladies.
I have 3 soccer games...will be busy!
All my boys will be home tomorrow night... I love having them all together, even if for just a little while.
Chris
Nadine...still waiting for some good news...thinking about you....
-
Hi all,
Francine.. wow those pics take me back to a department store I worked in after high school. Hess's department store in Allentown PA.. and its Patio restaurant! Their sandwiches were exactly the same as your pic... Everything they served was HUGE and tasted great!! Hess's closed years ago. Wow.. many memories.. I worked there for 5 years and had a great time...
Well, on my way to yoga! I hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi Ladies,
BethR..thks for the bday wishes last week. It was really great meeting you in NYC. can't wait for all of us to get together once again.
Chris..So you were outnumbered 5 to 1 by all the men and boys. I bet it is great to have all your family together.
WLL. Nice to hear from you again.Sorry I can't help with the port stuff as I did not have one. I am sure someone will respond .
NYC ladies..I went with my DH and with our of town cousins to the Met today. They loved it as you ladies did. Did the short tour. Ate at Dallas BBQ with my DH for dinner. Nasty weather here in NY but a fun day.

Hi everyone...Looks like everyone had fun in NYC!!
My 9 year old nephew is having surgery today to remove a cancerous brain tumor, then he will do chemo and radiation. He is a brave young man. Please keep him in your prayers.
-
ccbaby! My thoughts and prayers are with your nephew and family!
WLL! Had my port out 3/30 and I miss it bld draw was a snap with it! My surgeon and onc wanted it out 9 months post chemo. I was under gen anesthsia, to have my implant removed and they also took out the port, easy SX. Just get your scope patch preop and go for it! good Luck!

Hi everyone! I loved seeing all the pics from NYC!
I am stilll plugging away on the Appalachian Trail. We have been at since March 4 and we are at mile 364- not bad- except if we stay at this pace we'll finish in December in Maine! So we are hoping to pick it up some soon. The terrain eases some which will help. I've had a rash/bites on my legs the whole time- finally went to a doc here in Asheville NC where I have friends- it was called impetigo and I got a week of antibiotics. Day 4and 5 I started to feel GOOD again! but then back to general malaise/fatigue I have been fighting this whole hike (which I blamed on being fat and having had cancer)- sooo then I got a yeast infection from the antibiotics- no way I can hike- called my friends in Asheville to drive 90 min each way to come get us. Saw another uregent care place and he didn't think it was impetigo (which is a staph infection in little bumps on your skin)- he thinks it might be something else- some sort of mite (dh also has started to get some- they are only on our shins though)- I had them before the trail fwiw.
so I have an appt with a dermatologist tomorrow-hope to finally get some answers and effective treatment!
Weather has been mostly superb and we're having a great time!

Hi Ladies..another miserable day here in NYC. One more nasty day tomorrow and then things will look nicer and more springlike.
Christy..Oh I feel so bad for your nephew and your whole family. It is bad enough when an adult becomes seriously ill but a child ..so unfair. Stay strong so you can be there for your family.
Michelle ..I also was thinking about your sisters wedding. Was it yesterday or Saturday.
Glad all the NYC enjoyed Dallas BBQ.
Hugs,
Francine
-
CCBaby: I am sooo sorry to hear about your nephew. He and your family will be added to my prayer list!
Dayla: Sorry to hear you are having such a time of hiking this time around. Seems like you have been hit with a lot of medical issues on the path. I hope that everything clears up and you can enjoy the rest of your hike!!
-
Hi Dayla,
Hope you get your physical problems resolved.
As my friends say..it's always something.
Enjoy your hiking.
Hugs,
Francine
-
Hi All,
WLL - I too have a port. My onc finally agreed to my getting it removed on my last visit. Unfortunately, it's still in because I just don't have time to get it done right now. But I have read other posts on this site. Some women get it taken out as an office procedure and others have it done in surgery. I'm hoping I can get mine removed as an office procedure.
Alyad - Your stories of your hike never cease to amaze me. I hope you and your husband are able to take care of the physical problems you're having soon. But I'm glad you're able to deal with it enough to continue to enjoy the hiking.
ccbaby - Your nephew is definitely in my prayers.
Have a great night all!
Beth

Michelle...
I saw the wedding pictures on facebook. All looked so lovely. I assume the wedding was on Saturday..the nice day.
Hugs,
Francine
