Greysean: It looks like yet another 2 people have commented on anonymous response.

I'm scheduled to have a lumpectomy (right breast) in a few weeks. I'll be under general anesthesia because I'm also having a biopsy of the left breast for a suspicious lesion that is still showing on the followup MRI. Probably nothing but it still has to come out.

I loved and appreciated anonymous's response on Coolbreeze's blog ... so much that I posted one of the thank you replies listed to anonymous.

There's another DCIS thread on this breastcancer.org forum titled something like  "Is DCIS Cancer" in which Coolbreeze posted and Beesie and a number of us replied to her. Check it out if you like.

I hear you sista! I loved anonymous' response to the blog too. I am waiting for the path results from my re-excision last Thursday. If margins are still not clean, I will have to schedule for a mastectomy.

It took 3 excisions to get clean margins,  I fought my BS as she wanted to do a mastectomy which I thought was overkill for DCIS.  If you feel strongly about it you might want to fight for a 3rd attempt.  My oncologists (both the medical oncologist and radiologic oncologists) agreed with me.  I got clear margins on surgery #3.  I am not telling you what to do, but reminding you that YOU are in charge of your body.  Whatever you decide just the knowledge that you are in charge is such a relief.  Best Wishes.

A little while ago, I mentioned on this thread that I was working on an article about DCIS. I'm from the UK, and I'm aiming to get this story into a national paper called The Guardian. I'm working with my surgeon to do it.  We are trying to clarify the disease and help people understand it better. It seems to me that better communication all around is key. I'm still going through all the post-surgery fun that a mastectomy brings so my progress is slow. Also, because it's such a complicated issue, I've decided to start the process of writing the article on my blog, so that many voices can contribute to the story and hopefully the article that emerges at the end will be well informed and really useful. If you are interested in commenting then please do take a look and let me know what you think: kellysparalleluniverse.blogspot.com.

flyingdutch - please remember that a lot depends on the size of your breast in relation to the amount of DCIS.  I am so happy that you were able to save your breast!  I had hoped for the same but when one is a AA ( at best) there isn't a whole lot of wiggle room for margins.  So much depends on how much tissue you have vs the DCIS.

kellyrs:  what a talented writer you are. I really, really enjoyed your blog and in my head, your voice and dialect sound exactly like Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones Diary! Loved it!

ladyod - bless you. I'm so pleased you liked it. Do check back from time to time if you have the inclination and most of all, let me know if anything seems wrong/insensitive/confusing, etc., or if there's key information you think I'm missing as I go along. x

Kelly, I read your blog, too.....Actually, what caught my attention the most was your daughter. I, too, had a preemie.  A 23 weeker.  Actually, a 23 and a half weeker who weighed one pound and four ounces.  So preemies always catch my eye.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  I so understand what a mom goes through giving birth to one so little and watching one so little push to survive.  Or not.  I love how your daughter shares the same b'day as Beethoven and how you heard his 9th on her b'day.

Anyway, I, too, started blogging/journalling, or whatever when I found out I was diagnosed with DCIS.  I was diagnosed on Nov. 6.  For a while, I wrote daily and now it's gotten to where I write only monthly or so.  I do it mostly to let out my feelings, I guess.  If others want to read, that's fine.  It's almost like letting others have a window into my soul, I guess....I leave my writings on my caring bridge site and on the "notes" section on my Facebook page.

I have found it really helps me.  Supposedly it has helped others, but I don't know how....

My daughter -age 17 - the little preemie I was telling you about, is actually THE writer is our family.  She works with kids, either online or in our home, helping them with their writing skills.  She's won numerous writing contests, although if you ask her, she'd tell you that she's lost her touch.  ha.  She hasn't.  She has an incredible website advertising the writing classes she teaches, and also shows samples of work her students have done.

    Anyway, thanks for sharing.....

    blessings...robin

Robin - it is lovely to hear how your daughter survived the ordeal of being born so early. I'd love to read your blog/caring bridge site - are you willing to share the link? You can PM me if you prefer...

flyingdutch -  Oh so glad that came over the net the 'right' way!  You never know how someone else will read what you've written!  I meant it as a 'common sense' thing and not snarky!!  So, thanks!
